Well most poeple dont know that BJJ at least taught by some people including the gracies in some of there centers is more then just grappling it includes take downs and punching and stuff its like judo and aikido i guess you can incorperate punches and stuff because sometimes you just have to if its for street defense.

brazilian jujitsu is good for bare knuckle fights sir. ever seen UFC? Yeah gracie did groundwork but he also had kicks in his arsenal as well as headbutts and other things grappling is just one part of BJJ in the street you need to be able to grapple and punch and kick thats true for any art. thats why Dan Inosanto studied this art as well as shooto
