  • no school like the old

  • my first game and still the best game

  • The team that worked on this game was the same that made Contra III and Castlevania IV, and aftes this game they leave konami and created Treasure (Ikaruga)

  • arent those projectiles "a little" too large to be shot by that ship?

  • Why did you reply to a 3 year comment anyway?

  • Sorry 123doomdoom I'm not gonna respect a company that made shitty games for years on NES known as Laughing Joking Numbnuts=LJN

  • Someone challenged me to do level one and I decided to try it on hard mode, I just started this channel and want to get a few more challenges. By the way, nice job, you use FRAPS?

  • oh my god.. I totally forgot about this game... I hate that my mum gave our SNES to any of her co-workers when I was a child.. she destroyed my whole life when she did so, just cause we got a N64... thats no reason to take my SNES and give it to anyone else... this one was my favourite game how could I forget about it : ( I feel ashamed... mhh first of all I need to re-buy a SNES again...finally... and then first getting this game back from ebay -.- ..bad mommy...

  • @JolinCai Your mum is a dumb mutt.

  • This needs to be a 3DS Classic.

  • @LoveoneAn God damn, there are so many SNES and even Megadrive games that I think would work brilliantly in 3D. F-Zero? Panorama Cotton? Thunder Force 4? Stunt Race FX (which I would love to see brought back)? It'll probably never happen though because right now they're riding on 'zomg sooo nostalgic xD' NES games, including pap such as Urban Champion.

  • @dumbasspauldentonkin I don't think that anyone at all would want to play Urban Champion in any dimension.

  • How did this game fly under the radar for me? How strange...... I should download it on the VC

  • I have this game for the VC and it kicks my ass everytime I play it. Also, the arms installation guy sounds like Jet Black from Cowboy Bebop.

  • looks fun. :3

  • pause the game and press X and the god mode will on (in jp version)

  • mode 7 is the most spectacular inovation in gameing in my opinion

  • Best Shmup on Snes!

    Great Video! *****

  • THIS AND U.N SQUADRON!!!

  • Had this game when i was younger. It took me hours of googling to figure out what it was cause i couldn't remember the name. Good game. Greats times.

  • Beautiful flying.

  • oh yeah, i heard that Axelay Viper is coming to Otomedius Excellent that pilot of a samurai girl named Fumma Getsushihana in the game...:DDD

    cool!!

  • WOWOW great music great classic game. damn that they dont do axelay 2, this game is alot better than the new 3D airplain fighting games

  • I alwayes loved this over super R-type for some reason

  • OFMG:X:X:X:X:X:X:X::X:X:X:x this is best. you are a good player

  • Fake 3D FTW!!!

  • This game needs a fuckin' sequel. Konami, how about it?

  • this game was so aweome, the only shooter i like, too bad is too short

  • Awesome game. Can't believe I missed out on it. Will definitely hunt it down. Konami knew how to make awesome games

  • The vocals in this are very similiar to later Gradius Games.

    Anyone noticed?

    "Shoot the CORE!"

  • Next to Cybernator this is one of my favorite games on the SNES.

I still own one and play from time to time, althought im 32.

  • i can't even get passed the fuckin 2nd stage

  • Some of the sound effects seem like they were from Contra III

  • @Temjin99 yeah i agree even the music of this game espellay the instrumetation sound samples sound like contra 3

  • @heerogunkenobi its not like konami, you know the makers of contra 3 made this or anything..

  • @SNESosT im sorry but what are you trying to say i dont follow you

  • @heerogunkenobi That it should be a big surprise that some sound affects were taken from Contra 3 since Konami worked on both.

  • @SNESosT oh i see

  • SNES simply was an alchemy of colorful mode7 graphics, cool sounds and cool sountracks. if i could choose between the best game console of today and the snes, i will surely choose SNES! those old games were really quick, fun and full of action, no time loss to explore and get bored, just catch the powerup's and keep shooting at the enemies.

  • One of my top 3 games on Snes.

Too bad most of the people didn't find this game to be awesome... D-bags ;)

  • You should post this to gameanyone - they don't have any runs posted for this game currently

  • this game used to scare the shit out of me... still does

  • they tried do get that 3Dimensional thing to work but it all looks as if it were coming off a rolling pin. Ah well, This game still kewl.

  • One of the coolest shoooters on SNES for sure.

  • "Arms installation is complete, good luck!" I'll never forget that line. Me and my friends say this right before weightlifting at the gym. Ya, we're cornballs...

  • maaan this brings memories... good memories :D

  • A stunning achievement - graphics, sound, mode 7 fluidity, gameplay - from the relatively early Snes days. Yes, it was short, but technically excellent, and has weathered far better than most games of its era. I always wondered why there was no clear follow-up to this game.

I'd love to know what else this Konami team made.

  • you guys should try space megaforce/super aleste

  • Really well done. I almost can't pass the first stage on medium =/ It's a hard game, a little too short.. but the graphics are great, sound is great..

  • reminds me of Gradius, kinda ironic because they're both made by Konami

  • That is the opposite of ironic.

  • Reminds me good old days!!! Great Game!

  • this game kicked ass! one of my favorite SNES games. the soundtrack is great, too

  • great sound and music FX :)...also make you wonder were all them years have gone!! :D

  • Got the american version years ago. music is class. this and un squadren deserve a remake. 10 out of ten.

  • Boy, that game sure takes me back!

  • They really should remake this game, brilliant gameplay. It's a lot of fun on PSP and could only get better with a remake on the new consoles.

  • Just bought this game and it's just awesome. Can you use those bombs all the time, or are they limited ?!

  • OWNED.

  • damn, that game is one of my alltime favorits! nice game!!!

  • This game lead to fist fights with my brothers. We all wanted to play right then and now

  • thanks alot ibuk!!

  • Omg memories ...

  • a musica de introdução e um pagode fundo de quintal!

  • I love konami games on the snes back in the 90's the graphics, soundchip mode 7 combination.. memories of being single and early 20's dateless now I can't watch thiswithout my kids crowding me almost 40 now!!!

  • wow sounds exactly like contra 3 !!!!!!!!

    typical konami...amazing 3rd part developers!!

  • Yeah you can definitely see Kazuhiko Ishida's handiwork here before he left to co-found Treasure. This paved the way for such greats like Radiant Silver Gun and Ikaruga.

  • Round Vulcan FTW!!! :D

  • wow, you're pretty good, i never went through stage 1 on hard without loosing a life.

  • How damn cool is this? I saw this game for 5 bucks in a going out of business video store! To think I didn't pick up a Konami game? Heresy on my part.....*sigh* Now I know what I missed.

  • omfg i was like 6 when i got this game i still fucking have it so fucking awsome..

  • This game is so good. Over time I've grown to appreciate it more and more.

The best thing about this game is the extremely well theming. Especially in the last level when you enter the alien base, an extended version of the bosstheme from level one starts which really suits the "you're not escaping this alive" athmosphere (and all the doors closing behind you).

In fact I'm going to fire the game up once more ... hard level is a challenge!

  • By the way, in the video I noticed you using trigger speed 4 or 5. I always used 3 and I was really surprised how much better the higher trigger speeds are. On hard I couldn't get past level 4 but yesterday I reached level 6 at the first try!

  • axelay is just gradius upgraded

  • put all weapons at same button ;)

  • I love this game

  • Wonderfully done man,

You really make me want to start playing this again myself, I always shyed away from the hard modes back in those days. Your video is an inspiration and very entertaining.

PS - LOL @ the fanboys arguing over soundchips, don't you guys ever get tired of it?

  • This reminds to my childhood, sick game

  • Only snes suports this game. (16 bits-of course)

Amazing md-7 , sound and colours. And The game can sitll play today very well. i´m keeping in my collection.

  • Fucking awesome shooter EVER, i even have it now, i loved way back when it came out here in europe and i play some time from another.

I love the music and gameplay its the perfect shooter.

  • It would no have been better, because SNES had superior interiors. I agree that chip tunes on MegaDrive are far more vibrant, but these tunes are live enough to do justice. MD chip wouldn't have due to inferior chip

  • dude, genesis had diarrhea sound compared to SNES. ever played DOOM on snes and genesis? yeah great music on the sega COUGH.

  • truly one of the best games for snes imo, but hard is too hard for me XD. yes good work!!

  • 'Arms installation is complete, good luck!'

Wow that voice is awesome (for 16bit)!

  • @HITpadawan

Yes it was nice! The most creepy however, was on Super Metroid. I never forget when I heard that the first time. I shit my pants. "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy, is at peace."

  • @HITpadawan

Well, the SNES used sampled audio for everything, unlike most other consoles that era, which used either chip-sounds [square/pulse, triangle, noise] or FM, and those systems either tried to emulate sampled audio or had one/two channels of lo-fi sample output.

So, unlike say, the Genesis [which takes one FM channel and uses it for really lo-fi sample playback], you can get clear voices.

  • @HITpadawan

(((d(--__--)b))) Yeah I thought exactly the same . I have played this game on the console. it was my favourite shooter because of the mode7 3d effect

  • The ONLY game to this day I STILL can't get past the first fucking level.

You make it look WORRYINGLY easy. When it's not.

    :S

  • eat heart out gradius!

  • Damn the music in level 1 is absolute awesome, did this come out on the U.S.A V.C already because it never came out yet in europe i may just play it via emulator instead lol

  • i herd that this game used sooooooo much mode 7 graphics

  • I quickly learned that Konami was a name you could trust when it came to SNES, but if you saw LJN, RUN!!!!!!!!!!

  • @whoandtheha LJN made some sick games...show some respect. RIP ljN

  • @whoandtheha

Konami in general was THE COMPANY in the 90's.

  • I remember getting home from school, dropping my eastpack backpack, and running to my SNES to play games like this.

  • Thanks for the upload, this takes me back. :)

Go to Google and look up "Kick My Axe" with the quotes. The first link will take you to a remix of both the songs from the first stage of Axelay. It's one of the best videogame remixes I've ever heard. Midee/Prozax's remix of Lifeforce (NES) is also worth checking out.

  • great game... excellent sundtrack

  • a can get that 2 beams thing hw do you do it

  • First game i remember playing! brings back memories

  • The sound is slightly different when play on an emulator, as evidenced here.

  • I meant "played" on an emulator ;)

  • Konami have many some of the best shoot em ups ever..thx for posting :)

  • Look at that Mode-7 out the dick!

  • One of the best shooters for the snes period. Better than Super R-Type. En par with Super Aleste. Excellent soundtrack as well!

  • My favourite stage music is stage 2 btw how do you download the music from this game?

  • There's this one called Galbadia Hotel. You can try going there.

  • LOL you are joking right? or no?

  • you can download many music from that site, it's not a joke

  • @IbukiSF3 nah the best is mother

  • Ive played this ,its a totally awesome shoot em up believe me you definetly should download this, btw ive reached the fifth stage how many more stages left to go afterwards?

  • Only one more. The sixth stage is the last stage of the game.

  • I downloaded the whole soundtrack! Awesome music.

  • but where from...? link me babeh! :D

  • mode7 hasnt aged well

  • as far as alot of shooters go it doesnt look that difficult. and there are alot of better ones. but back in the day this game was the bomb hands down.

  • it remembered me so much of when i was a kid

    back to the 90's!

  • i just win that game on normal level! yay!

  • Yeah, I'll have to download this on Virtual Console for Nintendo Wii.

  • how many points does it cost?

  • Pritty cool i might download this on the VC

  • I was looking for a video on this game because it just came out on the Wii Virtual Console today. I'm not usually one for shooters, but man this looks sweet, I think I'll have to pick this one up along with Blue's Journey - only one more game to check out from todays VC releases and that's Volleyball on the NES.

  • man - that game is so 90's right down to the boss design. It makes me want to be a kid again - sniff.

  • I wish someone would've told me about this game back in the day, I would've loved it, although this game can make you want to throw a controller at the wall when you lose a level and have to start back ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING, AAARRRGGGHHH!

  • You got that gay version as well?

Is it the game cartridge where you have to go through certain levels all the way from the start and you can't selectively choose which level to start from?

I got that game! They said on GameFAQ that you can actually choose levels at the title page in the Japanese version of the game, even though the option's not there in my own JAP cartridge! I can't even cheat on it either!

  • I was so happy when I bought this as a kid (well my parents bought it), incredibly well done game.

  • Oh yeah!! All of this games have great progressive music feeling. Those were the days...

  • Oh yeah!! I forgot about Space Megaforce. Just like Zanac on the Nes. Those games are still awesome!!

  • I liked everything about this game. And you rock for not dying, even though it was on hard.

  • OI! You play as if the inertia don't affect you. The inertia is the only thing I don't like about the game.

  • Inertia as in "resistance to accelerate".

Do you mean the slow-motion trick when something dramatic happens during the game?

  • Ehh...I don't know what you mean by that. I mean when you turn left and right (or up and down, I forget which one) it feels like its dragging.

  • Incredible music too

  • You rock for playing one of the most underappreciated games on the face of the earth.

  • Classic game this game will never age pure classic, ive got the complete game on here but yours clips are on hard mode mine's normal because iam slow hahah great clip man!!
