  • true that.. but still hating on tight jeans and plaid.....

  • tattered man-lingerie lmao

  • They wear bright colors because it's antiwar color.

  • im' actually fellin this

  • Hipster - 1800's opium addicts who would smoke laying down on one hip. Don't recall the tight pants though.

  • "we need to stop tight jeans profiling!" hahahah

  • Underground Rap is Hipster 101

  • Tight jeans, tattered man lingerie, omg you're hilarious!

  • Its kinda like when people say "Break Dancing" or Break Dance"

Those are fake names and have always been fake names given by the media.

The correct term is Bboying or Bboy.We get offended when we are called breakdancers.thats why i think "hipster" Rappers take offence because they are Rappers being true to the Hip-Hop culture not some random new wave of people.its false labels.

  • So like he says theres no such thing as hipster rap because what people are calling hipster rap is just "Rap" or "Hip-Hop" in its pure form.

the stuff they play on radio & mtv today is not rap or hip-hop its just pop.

Rap is "Hipster Rap" its just a weird false name given to what has been around since the birth of hip-hop.

  • "Hipster Rap" is Hip-Hop trying to make its way back to our ears again.

its "Real Rap" and what Hip-Hop is supposed to sound & look like in todays society. The word "Hipster Rap" is something that became asscociated with us real hip-hoppas because the people don't want the already brainwashed youth to focus on whats real.they want to have people point at the real MCs & think they are weird.then go buy whats hot on the radio, sad what the media has done to the culture.

  • Those rappers aren't hipster there discusting posers

  • I agree with your message illDoc. I try to keep a classic-esque vibe when I rap. But since I dress as a modernized teenager, people get the wrong idea. I'm only 15 though don't get me wrong. I never understood the concept of a hipster though lol. Meh

  • I like how he hides his bald spot

  • I'm now certain that the word "hipster" needs to be executed with extreme prejudice. The people who complain about hipsters are talking about two types of people: people who dress in a manner of which they don't approve, and douchebags. I have a long mustache and wear old man hats, but I try to be as nice and respectful as I can to people around me. People should quit complaining about hipsters and focus their attention on douchebags.

  • its called hip hop hipster YO! PEACE OUT 2011 YO!

  • But, wait.... Didn't oldschool rappers e.g Run DMC wear tight jeans?

Baggy jeans were just a HipHop fashion trend of the modern years of HipHop.

  • @ArcadeRobotOnFire I don't recall DMC wearing tight jeans back in the day. I think they wore fairly normal, unnoticeable pants. By the way, the leather jacket and up brim fedora look needs to be brought back.

  • you shud have a radio show

  • hiphiphipster......rap

  • Wheres your hairline?

  • trolling trolls doesn't work

  • "Bizarro-world, anti-matter coolness", love it.

  • really they make good music? They just seem to be whiny and bitchy to me?

  • He sounds like hes rapping when hes talking...its weird

  • Everything in pop music has to be EPIC! these days and the hip hop that everyone is playing is just as annoying. I don't listen to prog rock anymore, but I think it's difficult to make a four minute song epic, and when every second is like that, it just feels like they're trying way too hard. If you want that, listen to dubstep, otherwise look for some groups that don't all sound the same.

  • I do not agree. Hipster Hip Hop is just another corporate exploitation of Hip Hop through a person's identity. There are Hip Hop purists that would debate this man to the core.

  • @agexax13 @agexax13 Though he might argue that it is that very exploitation through a false and ironic identity that is giving the movement it's credibility as a hip hop endeavor.

  • Well said sir. This is great.

  • "tattered man lingerie" ahahaha always gets me

  • I like how you spend two minutes dismantling a popular backlash that didn't deserve it, only to end the video with "I hate bloggers."

  • @xBONESstyle Um... it was a joke. The website posted beneath his face as he said "I hate bloggers" is... HIS BLOG.

  • Why wearing so much good clothes got to be inside of the Hip Hop Culture? I know plenty of White people that don't even wear Good Clothes and can still Rap better THAN THEM!! (Shaking Head "NO")

  • you have such a hip hop voice

  • @Chowchow656 yeah i noticed too that his voice has something special !

  • @Chowchow656 he really does, he should definately be on the radio

  • Kid cudi, kids in the hall and the cool kids are not hipster rap bands wtf?

  • @doddlauryn1 watch from 2:15

  • @lightningtruth He is a blogger. And he'd fit the demographic of hipster. Mind you this was long before all that O.F.G.T.W.K.A shit and the retaliation of Suburban white kids/ and blacks, against the urban city. I'm sure he'd have some shit against that if he wasn't always aspiring to be some neutral unbiased dude. You can't be Neutral on a moving train.

  • @agexax13 make sense next time ... where are his black framed glasses .. BTW youtube is too mainstream for hipsters..

  • the topic of disingenuity keeps getting blown up, and thats why (the mythical) "hipster" is a derogatory term. But 1st- how would anybody be able to determine who is a hipster?

and 2nd- there are hundres of rappers who didn't grow up in the gheto.

Does that make them less genuine?

And 3rd- WHY does it matter if a person likes a certain genre of music?

HOW is that important on a socio-political/ economic level?

We let pop culture dictate too much of our livelihood.

  • Hey man, it's fucked up that you voted against Dirt lol.

  • I agree, because wearing your jeans past your ass is not a stupid look at all. I'm glad that fashion trend didn't die in the 90's.

  • Search: "J. Dilla - The Beat: A Metaphor for Hip Hop" He "Breaks" it dowwwn...

  • You. Boss.

  • very well reasoned response and I agree, there isn't such a thing as hipster rap, those kids wouldn't really understand hip-hop, let em listen to their obscure indie rock music.

  • "Hipster" really is just another label. Hipster-types have existed for ages. At one point, you might have just thought of them as "those-pretentious-kids-who-were-into-stuff-you-thought-was-weird-until-it-actually-became-cool".

If the term "bootylicious" is proof of anything, it's that our (formal) vocabulary is continuously growing, and it shall continue to do so for as long as we feel the need to define things. (Which I know sounds really obvious, but there's a point there, somewhere...)

  • cool kids is good stuff.

  • You just blew my mind.

  • *subscribe*

I love the kind of language you use AND you have interesting stuff to say, very rare amogst vloggers (man I hate that word).

  • your voice sounds like a black man

  • @thecareerballoons he is black you idiot

  • @kalvinklein2 i dont care enough about the fact that he's black to be told this a month after my comment. i dont even watch this guy's videos so thanks for informing me in a very delayed way mr klein

  • baggies over skinnys any day! man bamboozle is so lamestream but i will wear "hipster" stuff but still respect real hiphop and its elementz (im into the visual element)

  • @themadscientest hip-hop doesn't have a 5th visual element to my knowledge lol, I get it tho it's all love

  • @MouseTheProdigy1 have you been under a fucking rock forever! just think, its one of the 4, GRAFFITI, YOU KNOW THE ARTWORK ON THE STREET ANYONE CAN SEE WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY!

  • @themadscientest, lol good point man, I honestly wasn't even thinking about that, I was just thinking about clothes which now in light of what you said makes a lot of sense to me, thanks man

  • Smart. That's it. :D

  • cool kids are one of the best groups out there

  • Good video!

  • i like you.

  • As a hipster AND a rap fan, it's a definite tribute.

  • fuck man! you speak the truth

  • YOU SOUND LIKE OBAMA

  • Full Force - PUAHAHAA....

  • you hate bloggers... but you vlog? hypocritcal my handsome friend

  • You're more annoying than a hipster. Shut your stupid, perv-stash FACE!!!

  • real talk

  • bravo

  • Would you mind if I used TatteredManLingerie as my next Twitter ID? Or perhaps my next Halo Reach handle? Nothing makes a 14 yr old cry like getting head-shot pwned by a guy named TatteredManLingerie.

  • "...Because you believe that by sarcastically surrounding yourself with uncool things, you thereby bestow upon yourself a sort of bizarro-world anti-matter coolness." quote of the decade right there.

  • the point he made about conveying coolness with sarcasm or w.e he was sayin was complete bullshit

  • Screw him! Hipster rap is boosy! Tight jeans is lame! ... so there

  • This guy is on point! Truth.

  • The Cool Kids are the best!!!!

  • Yep this guy speaks the truth.

  • kid cudi is the best stoner music

  • @wurrsdayisthebest Cudi sucks

  • @wurrsdayisthebest dude really....he sucks.

  • smoke rocks

  • what a fucking hipster.

  • i hate bloggers haha. How ironic

  • Tight-Jeans Profiling! You are my new idol. thank you

  • youre thinking too hard, my man. your brains gonna catch on fire

  • This video is HILARIOUS!!

I just made a music video about a horrible Hipster Houseguest from Hell, check it out if you wanna!

  • Hipster rap is just a rebellion against gangsta rap which is a rebellion against the white man, black women, peace and non-violence. All of the (c)rap is not on my itunes playlist. I've had it with rap music. I still listen to a drizzling few positive old school rappers that I can count on one hand but that us it. P.S. I hate bloggers, too. That's why as a writer, I don't blog. Too many bloggers blogging nonsense.

  • on point son

  • illdoc, you look kinda like a hipster Robert Downey Jr.

    no homo

  • Um, this video is wrong. First off, if you're calling the rapers themselves hipsters... You may have a point. But the music? Not close to appealing to hipsters. I talk to hipsters on a daily because of the sites I like to go to, and the hip-hop they usually listen to is shit like Del The Funkee Homosapien, Lupe Fiasco, Wu Tang, Atmosphere, and classic early 90s conscious shit, also Mos Def and them. I wouldn't call Drake, Cudi, and Wale type guys "Hipster rap".

  • @CyberSpectrumND lol at "rapers." Most hipsters got into hip hop late and only like old school and/or the hip hop you mentioned, plus the hip hop this guy is talking about. You can't say it's not "hipster rap" because it's mainstream or because the hipsters you talk to "on a daily" only like the poster-children of underground rap. Hipsters like the mainstream; hipsters are the mainstream nowadays. Personally, I'm a new school fan: Aesop Rock, clouddead, Serengeti & Polyphonic, Cannibal Ox...

  • @senatorkenator while I agree with you, actually for hipster to be mainstream, is a contradiction, since it's a collective of subcultures that resist the mainstream ideal, basically of media, music, and fashion. While many companies now are doing their best to switch from secene/emo, hipster style, now that trying to mainstream underground hipster culture is the new way(indie music, underground electronic, etc), selling thrifty kiij clothes at a high price(see Hottopic), etc.

  • @senatorkenator Read up on the Adbusters article "Hipsters and the death of western culture" it's a pretty interesting read. Caused quite a stir a while back. Also, nice list of rappers.

  • @CyberSpectrumND I'm a longtime Adbusters subscriber. Wasn't that article trying to prove that hipsterism is now a culture lost in pointless fashion, directionless irony, and overtly dyonysian music? Hipster is not a synonym for counterculture or even subculture; it's an example thereof. So, its not a contradiction to say hipsters are mainstream, it's just a critique of our culture. The "mainstream ideal" is not being resisted when the mainstream redefines itself to exploit hipsters.

  • @senatorkenator At the end of the day I could care less, about people caught up in their grandeur of slamming other subculture. I don't see what's so threatening about hipsters, same with the whole emo bashing amongst the net a few years ago. If a person wants to live their life in that fashion let them, I'm not god, I don't judge I have to control over that so I don't feel the need to critique any culture foreign to me. Hipster as I see them just live off of past culture.

  • @CyberSpectrumND To me, they're the classic case trying to cram many cultures into one, taking hip-hop, indie, art house culture, and may others and they're catching an air of superiority for being "So cultured" and why I would call my self cultured, I don't catch as case of big headedness for it as hipsters. But I back down, you win, of there is one thing I've learned, it's that if you're beat in an argument back out. Nice having this discussion with you. I should read up more.

  • wow, you are exceptionally articulate!

  • Come to Portland, OR.........there is a cluster fuck of hipster fags!

  • i love that i even understand what u said haha.

  • Hipsters make me uncomfortable because I tend to like all the same things that they do just because I like stupid, crappy stuff in general, not to make a statement.

  • @LordLegless

i feel you im young ,but i love old real hip hop, i like alot of rap......but them putting it together. puts me in a weird place?

if thats what u meant if no then

    i guess

but i like the retro look but man someppl take it way to far

  • @LordLegless they do it ironically to make fun of you

  • "I wasn't into the jheri curls + tattered man-lingerie look" of Full Force? Oh that is classic! *lol*

  • lol hipsters thats my first time ummm... i dont think they'll make that good of music. they all just like justin bieber or wtf his name is stupid fucked up kid everyone hate but girls love the kid.

  • @YekUnit Um where the hell do you get hipsters like Justin Beiber? Hipster like shit like Animal Collecttive, and are usually in the age group on 21 years old and up. I don't think you'll catch a hipster dead listening to Justin Beiber, as all they do is rag on how shitty that kid's music is. .

  • Any rapper who wears Japanese clothing is a hipster.

  • what about a japanese rapper who wears any thing?

  • 0:55 haha so true. Well put.

  • basically if your black and rappin and you more then 4 diffrent colours on at the same time your labled a hipster rapper

  • 4 different colours lol

like purple, orange, green etc... all the primary colours too....

  • ya man roygbiv wearin dudes

  • I didn't know Hipster Rap was a term.

I think it's really funny that I discovered and appreciated all of those "hipster rap" bands without knowing they're hipster rap, yet a majority of my not-rap bands are also considered "hipster" music, yet I've NEVER demanded any one particular quality out of my music, clothing, or tastes.

Perhaps hipster can be applied to a number of movements, including retro fashioned people who don't take the world seriously and like music. I'm a hipster if that's it.

  • confused about 'hipster rap' as a term? welcome to basic assembly of the english language....

  • they r hipsters!

  • wtf kid sisterisnt hipster

    shez lame az fuk

  • these niggas look like emos. hipsters are those dennis reynolds tight pants and a nintendo T shirt wearing cats kicking it in soho drinking starbucks.

  • YEAH! Full Force!!!!!

  • how about we all just stop profiling and get on with our lives... who gives a shit what other peoples fashions are..? or what they listen to.. if you don't like it.. dont listen to it. different people like different things...

  • The Cool Kids are not "hipster rap"

They just be themselves. And recenly came out? No, try 2004, not late 08.

  • With the knowledge that I myself am a "hipster" I sincerely thank you for making this video. I think you have a solid head on your shoulders and I would like to see you analyze some larger global scale problems. I wanna hear you speak.

  • AMEN! ilke this dude.

  • so is hippster one of those terms to group people and is tossed around a lot like "emo"

  • yes it is something like that..haa

  • Really people who are being accused of being a hipster really dont even know what the fuck a hipster is. Go and ask Mickey Factz or The Cool Kids or Wale. They dont a clue to what the fuck a hipster really is. Even the people who accuss other people of being hipsters really dont know what a hipster is. Thus leaving the word hipster an unused word that people dont wont to throw away but cant really find a definition to stick it to. So they chuck it at them cause they are the only thing close enuf

  • Co-Sign. I still have no idea what a hipster is. I agree with Wale's comment that it is most likely assosciated with fashion sense / style.

But not I, nor my peers, have any idea what the @#$% a hipster is.

  • FULL FORCE! dun dun da da HYPE!

  • everything you say in this video is so on point/witty and true.

  • The cool kids have like old school beats, and new school flow.. know what im saying?

  • Great video. It's hard not to associate the actual music with a subculture when it is created by people who display that subculture, or elements of that subculture. However, just because they rock clothes that are different then the norm shouldn't cause people to have preconceived ideas of how the music will be. I only dislike artists who use their image, (especially in association with subcultures) when they're doing it to sell records, and sacrifice their artistic integrity.

  • yea i think you nailed it... the irony of using tacky/outdated/dorky/otherwise uncool things to be cool

  • holy crap, agreed.

  • rappers sound like 2 3rd grade retarded blk kids rhyming

  • I agree.

It's a shame when people avoid or dislike certain music solely because they are popular among "hipsters" or any other kind of scene.

if its good shit to your ears then keep on listening to it.

  • the sxephil of hip hop

  • I LOVE this. Brilliantly articulated and hilarious.

  • whatever hipster is just another stereotype just like emo/prep/scene/gangster...

  • one love from Jamaica to day have you seen beyonce an la Lewis halo remix video on you tube it is reel cool you must see it

  • iDied @ the Full Force pic @ 2:00

  • "We need to stop tight jeans profiling."

That phrase is so, so ridiculously under-used in America today.

  • @somethinguncreative ive been wearing my tight jeans since 2002, dont label me...

  • lol

  • This is the first time i've heard the term. I thought "hipster rap" was pop music?

  • He's right although I'm into baggy clothes and dark colors we have no right to judge their tight pants and colorful retro look when we all have older people thinking our clothes are dumb

  • EXCELLENT POINT!!!!! ... shit i'm not a HIPSTER, but i am young, wear skinnies with a dope outfit and make music lol.

  • That was simply astoundingly awesome. I don't like hip hop that much but you are one smart motherfucker.

  • im down with most of the music all day but that gear aint shit to me everyone thinks its different but how is it when alot of people are doin it already and have been for a while im not with it

  • I totally agree.

I think though, that the true hipsters,

are the ones who are self aware, and will accept it,

    but won't be like,

"HEY I'M A HIPSTER! LOOK AT ME!!!"

    I'm gonna be honest,

    I'm a hipster.

    and Kid Cudi is awful.

    Just God-Awful.

  • lol...seriously tho. What are you doing with that beard? It looks lethal. But seriously those guys don't impress me. Once and a while you hear a good song from a guy like Blu, but I don't see what's so special about kid cudi or charles hamilton.

I'll listen to Asher roth tho, only cause I like weed and who doesn't, but nothing beats 90's hip hop.Poor righteous teachers, Wu-tang,old J and Nas,AZ, early Mobb Deep,Public Enemy,Fugees, Tribe Called Quest, shit was ill.

  • Wait, you say you listen to Asher Roth because you like weed, but you don't listen to Kid Cudi?

    ...thats a contradiction fam! lol

  • I don't listen to kid cudi ever so I probably didn't know what the hell i was talkin about but I listen more to Asher Roth cause he has a better flow at least in my opinion

  • asher roth has no flow to begin with..no offence to you or anything but he really dosent..

  • Asher raps better than Cudi...but both could use improvement

  • LOl. Dr. Dre background. LOL

  • that was very well said

  • zzzz

    fuck hipsters...

those are the guys who most likely look down on the people who like the old fashioned hip hop.

so what if i prefer the grunged scarey Hip Hop Naggy Teen and Baggy jeans style.

just becouse you Hipsters dress like middle aged citezens dont mean u gotta look down on people who liked it better in the old days.

most of u clowns used to dress like us b4 the hipster movement to begin with

    dont forget that!

  • There's definitely something ironic about writing a post that starts "fuck hipsters...those are the guys who most likely look down on the people who like the old fashioned hip hop." Does it work when a person looks down on a whole group of people (who aren't really a group at all) based on the assumption that they look down on the group you're in? I don't know. I think Jay's got good advice; we should look at the music.

  • if u read it right im not talkin about the music

    im talkin about the culture

  • @xDJxDELINQUENTx How wrong are you, you're talking about style freaks mainstreaming Lil Wayne fans, hipsters actually love old and underground hip-hop...

  • @xDJxDELINQUENTx right on so true on that

  • Kids in the Hall are dopeee... but i wouldnt define them as hipster.. theyre signed to duckdown and rock tracks with such artists as sean p and rock from heltah skeltah.. the furthest thing from hipster rap. there name sorta gets them grouped into that genre but there sound is no different from that classic duckdown sound. i have nothing against hipster rap besides the fact that they dress WACK but styles change so...

  • Articulate men are very attractive. :)

  • so true

  • The Cool Kids and Kid Cudi are the dope.

  • well put

  • i like the cool kids alot, but the rest are kinda wack

  • Tattered Man Lingerie is the best description of Full Force's Look I've ever Heard!!!

  • never even heard of hipster rap, guess thats what happens when you go corporate, pop a kid out and have a mortgage....weathermen 4 life

  • dude is on point

  • I guess i came on board after this one had already been posted, but just for the record I should weigh in. I honestly think The Cool Kids just really enjoy riding bikes. I thought it was more complex than that at first, but nah, they just enjoy riding bikes.

  • I can't stop favoriting your videos. Favoriting is not a word, but you should use it in a vid. It might catch on.
