Where do you even begin...See as humans we just zip around all day going to work bouncing off one another ..routine chaos...But...There are those with sight and they see the forest for the trees and hear the very rythmn of us all. They are all over . everywhere. If you even appreciate this man and a host of others just like him. .....Tell people.
i saw ted hawkins live in Nottingham when i was at uni in the 80s, he was brilliant and it was a small venue, the hippo club i think. brings back some memories to me, lovely voice
Saw Ted a couple of times at small London venues. He was a simple but quite astonishing performer and in a just world he'd still be with us enjoying the fruits of his talent after a very very hard life. Alas, it wasn't to be...
If anyone has a live version of Watch Your Step, it would be absolute gold dust. Thanks to all who have posted vids of Ted on here.
Everything that I love about music is in this short clip. Mr Hawkins has gone elsewhere but his music and examples of his extraordinary performances such as this one live on. Music. Heart and Soul. Thanks for the clip.
@rtyankeedoodle, Most everything that I find on YouTube is new to me, not much into music, but it is hard for me to understand how I could not know this guy. I think you have hit on the answer.
All of the postings for Ted on YouTube are awesome, but if someone could post his chilling "Cold and Bitter Tears", they would make an ageing Wearsider very happy indeed!
this is incredible - im a real fan of these kinds of singers, but dont know too many - if anyone can recommend good oldschool soul type singers to help me that would be great. I only really know sam cooke and otis redding. That kind of music isnt big in Australia.
@fifthflow If you like this kind of music, find yourself a copy of Ted Hawkins' The Next Hundred Years. It's a great CD and provides a good sampling of his music. There are lots of sources, but I'm not sure about availability where you are. Check out eBay Australia and I bet you'll find it.
@fifthflow O.V. Wright, Solomon Burke, Al Green, Geater Davis, Albert King, Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, and follow the linked artists (on the right of the Youtube display screen) for each of these artists, and you can find a bunch of new ones. Good luck, and hope this helps! Cheers from Texas!

Sometime in the 90s there appeared quite a few new recordings by artists with that old soul sound - Bobby King & Terry Evans, Holmes Brothers, Robert Ward, W.C. Clark, Skeeter Brandon, Lynn August. King & Evans no longer work together, Robert Ward and Skeeter Brandon have died, W.C. Clark and the Holmes Brothers are still going strong.
@flomurdock Lynn August is a powerful soul singer marketed as a zydeco artist .His first Black Top album is worth it just for his take on Esquerita's Undivided Love. Likewise, C.J. Chenier, another zydeco artist, is a powerful vocalist, and Harry Hypolite, CJ.'s long time guitarist, made a great solo album. Roscoe Shelton, Chuck Carbo, and Earl Gaines were older artists who didn't gain a lot of popularity in their first time around who made wonderful "comeback" albums in this same time period.
@fifthflow for old school I recommend Josh White Sr. for modern day sufferers you can't beat Scott H. Biram, the man who wouldn't die even after a head on collision between a loaded Semi and a Ford Ranger.
There is an educational/nonprofit website devoted to the musical genre termed "deep soul" that I think would delight all who love this performance. It's sirshamblingdotcom.
Wow! It's amazing to me how few views a live Ted Hawkins video has recieved, he may be the greatest voice in American music history. The Final Tour is easily one of my favorite albums ever!
@hailtothevictorz I've posted three live songs by Ted Hawkins, but I've yet to see another one posted other than those. There's a huge hole in his musical history (in a relative sense) for someone who performed up into the mid-90s, in that there is apparently so little live video of him performing. It's a real shame there was so little video of him captured.
Hard core honky tonker from the 50s Webb PIerce song. Webb is still hated and despised by Nashville for demanding proper compensation for his music. Teds version is excellent but in a different style wonderful really.
I got to meet him on Venice Beach in Cali-I thought he was a fledgling singer selling CD's on the board walk---Boy, was I WRONG!! I love this song, I love him, and I hope that he is resting in peace. His CD really touched me then and still does to this day. Thank You TED!
I'm envious! But glad for you as a fan. I sure wish I had been able to see him live at some point. One thing he stated (and I'm paraphrasing) was that he knew he wouldn't be around forever, but he wished his music would live on beyond him...and it certainly has.
I heard him sing this at Poor David's about a month before he died. He was absolutely amazing; there's no one who could sing a song quite like he did.
OMG!!!!! i've wanted to see the amazing grace video forever! this is the first i've ever seen of ted playing. I love him sooo much and he's been a HUGE influence on my writing style- the basic structure from the heart. what a voice he had! thanks for sharing! i'm greedy though- please share more
There's one more snippet (only about one minute long) for "Baby," which I think was the first song he released in his early career. Check my profile...I don't seem to be able to post a link within a reply.

I was shocked to see him still sit on a milk crate. He's really great. And I love how he ended it by turning away. Making the music fade. R.I.P ):
