I understand the passport is probably more convenient on location but is there any technical reason why the software can't be used for profiling with a standard Getag MacBeth 24 colour chart?
@XriteVids Thanks for that. I just tried this with my classic colour checker card and the colour profiling worked great. The only problem I found was that the patch on this chart used for a custom white balance is rather small, so not terribly easy to use. I am just wondering if the Passport white card is big enough or if I need a full sized calibrated white card.
Thank you for the demonstration. Do you know, how the X-Rite ColourChecker Passport distinguishes itself from the DataColour SpyderChecker (Pro), the size difference between the two, and the slightly higher cost of the latter notwithstanding? Thank you.
@dldphotography The ColorChecker passport is designed to custom color balance and profile the camera, lens, sensor and light source. It is independent of the subject matter.
I just recieved the ColorChecker in the mail last week and I love it! It's uber important to have an on set standard to later color correct to... that way there's no guessing on what any given color is actually supposed to be.
Also calibrate you moniter.. I picked up the eye-one display 2 for that and I got sold on this when watching the video.. The display 2 color calibrator made a HUGE... let me say that again... HHUUUUUUGGGGEEE!!! difference across all my monitors.. now I can have a workflow that's as sweet as cherry pie!

@ashleykaryl The passport software can be used on the 24 patch ColorChecker classic or the mini ColorChecker or the passport itself.

How are you using this with the sunset shots? If you calibrate to that lighting, you neutralize the natural warm color cast, don't you?

What if you are taking a large group photo? Should you still use this tool?
