Yea A few months ago I blew the engine trying to merge onto the interstate. Now I drive a Honda Civic Hybrid, its not got a lot of power but its built great.
i have a 2000 ford contour v6 24v and it eats gas up but i can get most cars off the line, if you know how to drive it good and use the overdrive kit on the engine then you can do some crazy stuff lol and my car has went almost a half a year without a oil change and engine has never locked up im lucky and now my catalytic converters are out both of them and the engine is still going. But ford does suck ass and so does the car lol.
I have a '98, and if you'd have done that in mine, you'd have been calling a wrecker b/c if you go too fast, it dies when you come to a stop. :[ I hate it.
nice contour, I have a 2.0l 98 se and it does haul, I got up 2 115mph, bone stock (no CAI, tune,). This one dude with a shortcab Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 tried to act bad and race me. By the time I reached 45 I already passed him, but he sped up and I had to pull away again, at 70mph.
dude my friend has the inline 4 engine in his contour and he put cold air intake in it.He raced a camaro with a V8 I think a 350.and my friend beat him.all you have to do to add the cold air intake is take the filter off and and the cold air one on. my friend said after he added it on his car it got so much faster its not even funny.

I got my 95 contour up to 126.6 but had to ease off...i think it would have got 130 easy...too bad i flipped it :( i miss it lol

The light you see is just a computer problem. I've been just shy of 100. My car is a '96 also but I rebuilt a good part of the car after I got it.
