  • i LOVE her SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! I had to make another account on here just so my username could have her name in it!!! i am OBSSESIN!!!

  • ahahha; 00:33 - 00:45 she's like eyeing him :D

  • Well I have one thing to say to the cellist: HOW RUDE! lol!

  • Epic pizz!

  • Does anyone happen to know what key this is in? I want to try performing this, though I realize my performance will not even compare to Ms. Peters flawless interpretation. :)

  • @Cheezluvr12 Only just seen your question and that no one answered. I don't what key the song is originally in but Bernadette Peters is singing it in B flat minor. Hope that helps.

  • @icebabe327 Thanks a lot! And it did indeed help. :)

  • Seeing her in two weeks on the sixth, it is going to be amazing.

  • Who is wishing they were lucky enough to be that cellist?

  • @lindsaytheatre99 I had to do something similar to that during a performance in high school. I can tell you as a cellist, it is super weird having people moving around you in unpredictable ways when you're trying to play.

then again, I'm not much of a performer, so for all I know this guy could have loved it. it's enjoyable to watch either way

  • Bernadette is a TITAN!!! I wish I could see her in "A Little Night Music" :(

  • I just saw her in A Little Night Music, she was great

  • Breathless, great singer and great entertainer. I love this real music attitude.

  • AMAZING!!! Is there anything she can't do?!?

  • I just saw her in A Little Night Music with Elaine Stritch... LOVE HER!!!

  • Wow. Okay, the way she's performing this, I get the impression that the cellist is Henrik, and she's the voice of passion inside of him, the part that is so "dammed up" it can't get out -- so it's all an internal monologue (well, dialogue, with his Lutheran-purity-uptightness as a silent partner) while he practises cello. The way she played the "I beg your pardon" really clinched it.

  • She is truly an impressive singer and actor, but for me this song lost part of its charm because it was not sung by a tenor. She hit the low notes beautifully but the high notes were too easy for her. Also her voice just does not have the timber required for those high notes to have their full dramatic effect.

  • 0:32 i love how bernadette's just giving the cellist the evil eye while he's playing

  • Sondheim is a genius and Bernadette is amazing. I love this song and I love this video.

  • She's brilliant.

But why does she change Henrik to Hendrick near the end? It's odd.

But still, this is one of the best interpretations of this great song.

  • OMG.

    Blows me away every time.

  • She is ever so smooth! Lol, so very!

  • she'd be freaking awesome in phantom of the opera.

    xD

    hahahahaha.

she hits those opera notes flawlessly.

  • @tianicolea23 I feel madame giry all the way!!! :D Or Carlotta...she could pull off Carlotta.

  • YES!

she'd be a freaking beast carlotta.

    O_O

    oh god.

    i can see it now.

"he love me. he love me, love me..."

    xD

  • OH DUDE! LMAO! So true, beastly, that's all that would be, beastly.

  • @pergaperga i woner who she'd get all that hair squished under the giry wig?>>>

  • @KaraokeKid22 She played Madame Giry??!!

  • Bernadette's more fun than this song.

  • @catchersmitt0 I think she did it beautifully.

  • That's a skilled entertainer. :)

  • what a performance!!! OMG could I love her even more??

  • God I love her. I didn't realize until now that she hesitated on the floor like 'okay - what now? Make something up - quick!' lol. Love her! I must meet her someday!

  • LOL . I think you might be referring to when she is trying to get her shoes back on. She had to take them off or at least step out of the back of them to get down on the floor and then had to get them back on to stand back up. LOL

  • i love it when bernadette peters sings sondheim songs. especially when they're supposed to be sung by a man. i don't know why.

  • Amazing

  • AH I LOVE BERNADETTE!

  • I love this song, and I love Bernadette Peters...I just don't think it works...

  • I know I'm gonna get bashed for saying this, I've never really cared for Bernadette Peters. Too over-the-top in almost all of what I've seen her in BUT I applaud her improv skills. She not only handled the cello and the shoe, but she used the incidents to her advantage. A true entertainer. Bravo.

  • I only watched this to see how she did on the top notes...

why was that even a question?

    LOVE YOU BERNADETTE!

  • one word: tact

  • haha how can that guy concentrate with Bernadette Peter singing to him?

  • He's a professional. ;-)

    -jcr

  • wow what a lady!!! haha i luv her face at 2.59!

  • Nunca había visto a la Peters interpretando este tema de Sondheim. Muchísimas gracias! Genial la interpretación.

  • Oh gawd, SHE'S ON THE FLOOR!

The dress seemed really jammed there, but it made for a dramatic conclusion...

Aside from her skills of improvisation, I reach equilibrium every time she hits that hight note.

Thanks a lot for posting this- I've been searching for her version of this song!
