Stock vs Stock. Eclipse is faster in all ranges. The MR2 JDM version will catch up to the eclipse at 90mph. The eclipse 4g63 engine is Number 1 best Power potential I4 cyl. making the fastest 4cylinder in the world. There are few eclipse that are over 1000hp pump gas. But Mr2? most hp is 817hp on racing gas i believe.

Actually, in the Japanese market the Eclipse is considered 4wd. The only difference between 4wd and Awd is that you have you select it with 4wd. Every Japanese vehicle with Awd is called 4wd in Japan

Hah thanks Bandit. Well, in my opinion you shouldnt turbo a car if its Frankenstein unless you have a lot of experience under your belt, and a lot of money. I'd find a better MR2 to buy, if its a little frigged up like that.
It's actually better this way, to be honest. It's only the head and some connectors that were put onto it, so it's got a better head to it, but the block is still the same. It just means different tweaking to put the turbo on and get it working, but overall the same process.
Unless I'm horribly wrong, in which case I'll figure it out completely before I even try. I have about 1000 people in my friend/family circle that can work on cars, some domestic some import, some both. So I'm set :D
Oh and on the "Better" mr2 to find... Yeah I live in texas, and the only one I found was 200 miles away. This one is down the street, I'll take what I can get, and the engine is a jdm import, the 2.0 just non turbo, so I believe that's why it had to use some of the former 2.2 parts, since the dude threw a rod after 170k on the car. Has full body work done to it, fresh paint and new rims. It's just missing that black mold on the front lip, only thing wrong with it. Even a new clutch

I like the MR2, I got a non turbo and when in the hands of a proper driver a non turbo MR2 is fast. While maybe not a straight line monster like it's turbo counterpart, I know the MR2 are great for racing purposes, when it comes down tot it there is nothing wrong with the eclipse either but I prefer my MR2, however I seriously pitty anyone who tries to race an MR2 with a proper driver in it around a curvy circuit. Unless you they have a 911 or a Ferrari it is very unlikely you will catch the MR2
What would you guys suggest...I'm looking for something to get into cars with and would like a project to start (a daily driver with some punch :D). An unmolested MR2 / DSM is rare in my parts, but what would make a better project? A Mid engine RWD turbocharged platform or a 98-99 (Bishi revised thrust bearings for these yrs) AWD DSM with bolt-ons and possibly an EVO 16GIII down the road?
That's a non-turbo eclipse anyway. Yeah, seriously. People who say the 4g63 is a bad engine. You've obviously never been in a dsm. And, a GSX would leave an MR2 in the dust. Yeah, the 7 bolt had some problems with cranking. So the most common answer, is the 6 bolt from the 1g dsms.
How would a GSX leave an MR2 in the dust? You do know an MR2 would probably launch better right? I just thought I would say that since the general belief is that AWD will launch better than RWD.

Front wheel drive is the worst set up racing ever. In drag, most of the weight is shifted to the rear of the car, where there is no power. In road racing the front tires have to do double the work by accelerating and braking the car. The best Mitsubishi has is the LanEvo. The Eclipse is a waste of time and money.

uh...niether of those cars were turbo...look at the pictures in the end...the Eclipse was non turbo and the Intake manifold on the MR2 said "2000 Twin cam 16" the American/Japanese Naturally aspirated motor is 2.2l (2200) and the turbo intake says "2000 twin cam 16 twin entry turbo"...so I think that was the 3SGE (Euro mr2) motor in that MR2 NOT the 3SGTE motor (turbo). But either way cool video.

I like the MR2, I got a non turbo and when in the hands of a proper driver a non turbo MR2 is fast. While maybe not a straight line monster like it's turbo counterpart, I know the MR2 are great for racing purposes, when it comes down tot it there is nothing wrong with the eclipse either but I prefer my MR2, however I seriously pitty anyone who tries to race an MR2 with a proper driver in it around a curvy circuit. Unless you they have a 911 or a Ferrari it is very unlikely you will catch the MR2

What would you guys suggest...I'm looking for something to get into cars with and would like a project to start (a daily driver with some punch :D). An unmolested MR2 / DSM is rare in my parts, but what would make a better project? A Mid engine RWD turbocharged platform or a 98-99 (Bishi revised thrust bearings for these yrs) AWD DSM with bolt-ons and possibly an EVO 16GIII down the road?

That's a non-turbo eclipse anyway. Yeah, seriously. People who say the 4g63 is a bad engine. You've obviously never been in a dsm. And, a GSX would leave an MR2 in the dust. Yeah, the 7 bolt had some problems with cranking. So the most common answer, is the 6 bolt from the 1g dsms.

That's true, but I'm comparing the GSX with the MR2 here which makes it a totally different story because of the RMR platform the MR2 has. I won't say that you'll never roast the tires but unless you have a ton of power(over 500) an MR2 will also just go straight without any spinning too.

lol Well, I think part of that was because of me in my camaro. I had a '92 RS with a V8. So it was nothing for me to do a smoke show and he just wanted to have a little fun too. But, I could out drive him in my camaro too. (he did suck as a driver lol)

Front wheel drive is the worst set up racing ever. In drag, most of the weight is shifted to the rear of the car, where there is no power. In road racing the front tires have to do double the work by accelerating and braking the car. The best Mitsubishi has is the LanEvo. The Eclipse is a waste of time and money.

If you swap the 7 with the 6 and use forged internals and you could push 1000 hp on that motor. They are bad ass motors, idc what anyone says. sure the cars have a tendancy to fall apart if you don't take care of them but they have great motors (if it's the 6-bolt).

uh...niether of those cars were turbo...look at the pictures in the end...the Eclipse was non turbo and the Intake manifold on the MR2 said "2000 Twin cam 16" the American/Japanese Naturally aspirated motor is 2.2l (2200) and the turbo intake says "2000 twin cam 16 twin entry turbo"...so I think that was the 3SGE (Euro mr2) motor in that MR2 NOT the 3SGTE motor (turbo). But either way cool video.
