You know, is there REALLY a healthcare crisis at all? I keep hearing this crap, but I find it hard to believe. I mean, much of the costs are a direct result of bad regulation, and it seems this is just whining about another "poor people's" problem. The middle and upper classes largely can afford and get good treatment. So I don't see all the need for whining and bitching. I mean, we all know that only a fraction of the 47 Million actually want and can't afford healthcare at the moment.

the US spends twice what other rich countries do, and there are still 47 million uninsured. surely that's a failure in itself. what do you consider so bad about universal health care? i just can't understand it. i live in the uk and you get total coverage which is really quite good for about $3000 a year. you guys are getting ripped off.

well the us spends 15% gdp on healthcare. other rich countries with thier "socialist" systems are spending around 7% for excellent services.

if the us had universal healthcare there is a potential to free up 8% gdp (mostly in disposable income) which would be insanely good for the economy.

Excellent services? The only reason the UK's system improved was because they started to allow hospitals to compete for NHS funds. Competition is a great thing and allowing the government to have the monopoly leads to disaster.

My crap government is a whole hell of a lot larger than the UK's & it governs over five times as many people. I wouldn't trust a politician with my tax dollars as it is w/o socialized healthcare. The USA continues to accumulate unimaginable debt & it's killing us all.

Theres differences between the UK and the USA, not only by population. The USA has to deal with scores of illegal immigrants who take advantage of the system as it is. The UK healthcare system pays doctors the same amount, which is unfair to the different skills necessary in certain medical fields. You wouldnt pay a home-building architect the same amount as one who designs skyscrapers would you? Govt policies move to make unhealthier things MORE expensive (sin tax), thus we have liberty.

we have a lot of illegal immigrants too. it doesnt cause too much disruption. admittedly cigarettes are a lot more expensive to compensate for the cost to the nhs. i think thats fair (and i smoke).

doctors are not all payed the same amount. anyway i doubt were going to change each others minds although i do agree that organized religion (although helpful to some people) is mostly a load of shit. :D
