My High School buddy had a 66 mustang 289 Hi-Po 4 speed, no headers, stock intake, factory autolite four barrel carb, he used to blow away big-block cars all the time, they would shit when they looked under the hood of his car. Look what Carrol Shelby did with his 289 Cobras against Ferrari's, Jauquar's, big-block Corvettes. Totally dominated!
