@franklywright Wow you don't listen to classical music, because if you did, you would know that if Williams always compies himself, then all other composers do.
@franklywright Even the best film composers copy themselves (ie Zimmer). It's pretty difficult for them not to. In both 2002 and 2005 Williams wrote 4 scores amounting to approximately 8 hours music, with this output inspiration has to come fast.
@rafael502 Well it certainly had outstanding graphics, animation and visual effects better than any other film that was nominated for an Oscar this year. BUT...the story wasn't as solid as the animation. Even if you've got amazing visual effects and animation, it's the story that people remember. However, regardless of the story I'm surprised this didn't even get nominated for visual effects or animated feature (based solely on the "look" of the film rather than its storyline).
@futureman116 No, The Adventures of Tin Tin was in the Best Animated Film shortlist but apparently, it didn't get enough votes from the Academy members. It was eligible alright.
I thought this theme was completely misplaced and very un-Tintin like. Tintin stories are an epic adventure from the 30s and 40s, not 60s screwball comedies.
@thejobloshow The books ARE children stories, with lots of slapstick and stuff like that. I admit that the movie is a BIT out of character with hadoque, but the idea is a story that both adult and children can enjoy.
@DevilishmanThe Yeah Haddock was certainly a bit over the top in this, it was hilarious but he's certainly less of a buffoon and more of a manly badass in the books.
Very good! not as epic or adventurous as the Nelvana-Elipse TV series, but definitely keeping in touch with Herge's concept(s)! Very much like Sherlock Holmes and some jazzy film noir..
John Williams is in another level of music. Like the big guys, such as stravinsky beethoven ravel malher, etc! So glad I can say that I lived in the times of John Williams.
Fits Tintin perfectly and although there are nods to Indiana Jones in the score. This piece doesn't sound like Indiana Jones!! Best part: Walking double bass line starting 0:43 Genius!!! Oh ...and the wah-wah trumpets..
I must say though the soundtrack is good, it's kinda of a let down if we remmember it's from John Williams. Many tracks are just a prisoner of azkaban ripp-off.
@mc04su there are some shades of 'Knight Bus' from Harry Potter POA too...but this is John Williams...he never met a motiff he didn't love to rework and put in other films lol. But you're right...it's still a great score nonetheless
This piece is another example of why John Williams doesn't just write "cheesy" over the top, in your face brass themes. The complexity of his scoring never ceases to amaze.
the thom[p]sons were the best! pp grabs wallet they run pp lets go hits him in the face takes off his jacket goes in his face takes off jacket runs into pole, pp gets away.
If they played the original theme in the opening and closing credits, the movie would have easily been an 10/10 for me easily.
watch?v=N_EK_tFz9ug&lc
Does anyone know if there an issue with rights over the music or something? I really don't understand why John Williams did not deliver a revamped version of the original theme music. It's very memorable and encapsulates the theme of Tintin perfectly.
It's because it's an adaption of the comic, not the tv show. I see absolutely nothing in the original T.V theme song. Nostalgia is clouding everybody's vision.
Not a huge fan of William's scores usually, a little too epic/cheesy for my taste. This song is bumpin' as hell though, really shows that he can do more than just harmonically safe orchestral stuff.
@Ruckus9 I find it funny that you say Williams is "harmonically safe" when he's one of the most harmonically daring composers IMO. As far as being epic, Williams is quite conserved IMO. Now I agree with "cheesy" at times. Williams is the definition of "cheesy" in some of his drama compositions, because it's one of his signature styles, but he's so versatile that you're bound to find something spectacular from his compositional output.
as a guy who grew up on tintin i was extremely disappointed with spielberg's rendition. just completely failed to capture the brio of the old comics. but i must say john williams music was great. isn't it always?!
not as good as the original theme from the tv series, but very in tune with Tintin's inquisitive nature and the overall theme of the series-great job JW
that's John Williams !! It's nice to listen to some good old days composer' new scores after lately's frequent Hans Zimmer's style (or Hans Zimmer wanna be) of bangs here and there.
don't understand all the negativity around this score. It's amazing. Everyone who expects Williams to just whack out another full-blown star wars/indiana/E.T score full of dramatic melodies is just being blind, this film didn't call for that kind of score! Long live JW!
@SerahMusic While I agree that the whole score shouldn't be judged from the intro, I can understand why people are disappointed. This theme emphasizes the mystery-solving aspects of the books above the action-adventure aspects, which is what the books are more widely known for and what the theme of the very highly regarded animated series emphasized. (If you haven't checked out the intro, it really is worth a view.)
