This used to be aired over the Disney Channel in Southeast Asia. It had great stories from the region like this one and another one about how the Durian fruit came to be (from the Philippines I think). I miss it. :(

I think it was composed for this series only. Probably, it isn't much longer than this short part in the beginning.

"How the moon arise" - a story from Thailand

Once upon a long, long time, the sun king reigned the sky and the king of Siam the earth. Everyday, the sun king made his rounds over the sky in a shining golden wagon and thereby bathed the earth in bright light. When he returned to his palace, it became dark. Tiny stars emerged to play but there was no moon, yet.

The king of Siam had a daughter named Tatsani whose gracefulness was beyond compare. Her beuty caressed her like a gentle shimmer that captivated everyone. You had to love her.

One day, when the sun king passed her, he beheld Tatsani in the garden. He was captured by her beauty, too. He instantly fell in love with her. From that moment on, he followed her everywhere and wouldn't let her out of his sight.

Because the sun king didn't return to his palace in the sky, it never became dark, it was always day. This overthrew the earth in big chaos because the glittering light and the never-ending heat gave the people trouble. Soon, they craved for it to become night again. The stars were unlucky, too, because they couldn't go out to play anymore. They decided to do something about it.

One day, they noticed that the sun king followed Tatsani into a cave. He left his wagon outside, in front of the cave. Quick as lighting, the stars shooted down from the sky and hid the wagon. Immediately, it became dark. The sun king hurried out of the cave. When he saw that his wagon was gone, he became very sad. After all, he didn't belong on earth and now he couldn't return to his palace in the sky again. That he king was sad cut Tatsani to the quick. Tears were running over her cheeks.

Up in the sky, the stars watched sorrowful. They loved Tatsani and didn't want to see her sad. So they said to the sun king: "Oh, great master. We hid your wagon. We will return it to you, on two conditions. First, you have to promise to return every evening to the sky. Second, you have to give us Tatsani so that the glance of her beauty illuminates the night sky.

The sun king became very sad when he heard these requests. Although he loved Tatsani and wanted to spend all of his time with her, he also knew that the people needed the light of his wagon. With a heavy heart, he agreed.

Since that day, he returned every evening to his palace and when it becomes night, Tatsani appears as the moon at the nightly sky and plays with her sparkling friends.

In those nights, in which she cannot be seen at the sky, we know she is with the man she loves.

Aber Mooooment....der Sprecher im Hintergrund ist definitiv Joachim Höppner O_O Der ist aber bereits 2006 verstorben. Wurde das schon so früh synchronisiert und erst jetzt ausgestrahlt???
