  • and who's running away from it? NO ONE.... MrTom423

  • this is excellent! the clear air around the updraft is very interesting for a waterspout to have.

  • Hardly comparable to a mid west tornado but still very interesting.

  • Most likely a waterspout that became a landspout, which makes it a tornado. And for all those who think tornadoes are just suddenly popping up in California, check the records, tornadoes have been observed in California since the late 1800's when they started keeping records. Southern California counties have the highest number of sightings also.

  • Wow Newport dwellers should be scared of this.

  • Great catch!

    Well done! Steady.

Wish you had shown more vortex on the ground.

I would have run into it if close enough.

    When?

  • It's crazy, this video was shot, like, two blocks from the house I grew up in. Man, if I saw something like this when I was living on 22nd Street I'd have flipped! .

  • thats badass!!

  • Great footage! Thanks. Took it a while to realize those are NOT ALLOWED in California.

  • yanno....instead of just standing there..they should be finding a safe place to take cover..ugh...so embarassed to be a califnornian at times lol

  • those things are soo weak usually, that sometimes you can walk through them, you will feel the wind if it was strong

  • @hotelbleustar I believe you are thinking of dust devils...Waterspouts are exactly the same as tornadoes aside from the fact that they are over water. They have been known to flip boats up and out of the water.

  • HOLY FUCK

  • This is a pretty chill vid!!

  • Great footage first time in history this ever happend

  • @42Sillygoose3000 uhm im not sure if what your reffering to is this tornado in particular or the other one that suposedly happened today / 2 days ago w/e , look at the date , im confused lol

  • This is far from the first time in history... California has five-ish tornadoes every year, it's just that they're mostly either in rural areas or they're waterspouts off the coast.

This year is an El Nino year so naturally we're going to get three times the average amount of tornadoes, thus increasing the chance that people will actually see a tornado.

  • @KHorbust Finally someone who knows their stuff!! :)

We do see around 5 a year...In fact, last year we had 11 reported (there were at least 2 more I know of that went unreported)...This year we already have 1! Rare, yes but definitely not improbable like a lot of people seem to think!

  • therefore becoming a landspoud XD

  • wow, awesome. My old fishing grounds. Miss living in the OC. Even tho I get all the seasons here in Idaho, I still miss the beach and in n out and del taco and carls jr.

Stop by and check out my vidz...

  • LMAO @ the kid at 0:19

  • wow spooky tornado

  • Cool video!

  • Now this is cool. I remember that storm in Sept, but didn't even know it produced waterspouts! I grew up in NB and NEVER saw anything like this! Thanks for sharing.

  • did they issue a tornado warning

  • damn spammer!

  • Supercell1995 I am from OWS chasers. I'm sure you've seen the chase vids from NIck Mitchell in Southern California. Spamming is only if someone pushes for someone to BUY. OWSweathre is the leader in official accurate Socal forecasts with the public appeal and support.

  • well, you were marked as spam! sorry

then OnlyFairTruth must be the spammer...

  • yeah i remember seeing the videos! they were good, my occupation is weather so i could join some storm chasing group, i might even join you guys eventually, who knows

  • Search Ontario Weather Service on google. I am the owner and forecaster. Southern California weather is my forte. We will have TORNADIC like storms after the new year. That WEEK. Have fun photographing them. Let me know what you see. Go to my site by search google and email me. I'll direct you to the best location when the storm nears. Last storm to this magnitude was in the 1970's which caused an F3 tornado in Orange County.

  • Good footage guys

  • I live on 47th and I had NO idea!

  • Yours was at the 22nd was it?

  • Dude....I was there....I was on the other side of the tornado.

  • Thats hot!

  • When was this?

  • This was yesterday, Saturday, September 23, 2007 at about 11 a.m.
