I don't feel they're similar, even in the aspect that you just pointed out. Depp doesn't even pick films that suit him, he seemingly just picks roles he thinks he can do something different with. Depp's performance and character are completely different in every film he's acted in.

Also, whether Kristen can 'truly act' is up for debate.

She has been a striper, diebetic, rape victum, etc...I just find they both are highly respectable in there careers because of how they choose there work. Thay are the only 2 i can think of that use the career to challege themself in the same manner. I cant think of another actor, let alone one that is as young as Kristen to do that.
