I grew up in EStL in the 50's-60's in Lansdowne. It was a beautiful neighborhood, big trees everywhere, brick streets. My neighbors were teachers, a bank president, a principal, businessmen. My friends and I had a neighborhood "newspaper" we made and distributed, we made and sold potholders, had lemonade stands, played softball in the street, rode our bikes everywhere, put on singing shows for the neighborhood Moms. My life on 38th street is filled with wonderful memories. So sad now.
Another example of urban decay..manufacturing leaves town decades ago and generations have been living off the government. They arent paying taxes so there isnt money to hire more police, pick up trash, repair sidewalks etc.
There are no jobs. Residents dont have the education or desire to better themselves. Drugs/alcohol become the only escape from hell. More illegitimate children are born into the system and the cycle repeats.

I heard that due to budget cuts last year they only have ONE police officer on duty in the entire city at night. That gives 'graveyard shift' a whole new meaning. As for schooling, many Urban American schools get a very high dollar-per-pupil when compared to lots of non Urban American schools. Sad fact is, MANY Urban Americans and their parents do not give a rats ass about ED-U-MUH-CAY-SHUN.........more concerned with becoming a rapper or basketball.

I grew up in EStL in the 50's-60's in Lansdowne. It was a beautiful neighborhood, big trees everywhere, brick streets. My neighbors were teachers, a bank president, a principal, businessmen. My friends and I had a neighborhood "newspaper" we made and distributed, we made and sold potholders, had lemonade stands, played softball in the street, rode our bikes everywhere, put on singing shows for the neighborhood Moms. My life on 38th street is filled with wonderful memories. So sad now.

Another example of urban decay..manufacturing leaves town decades ago and generations have been living off the government. They arent paying taxes so there isnt money to hire more police, pick up trash, repair sidewalks etc.
There are no jobs. Residents dont have the education or desire to better themselves. Drugs/alcohol become the only escape from hell. More illegitimate children are born into the system and the cycle repeats.

@hideyourkidsnwife Ok,welfare helped create this problem,Throwing your trash on the ground has nothing to do more garbage workers.We as taxpayers pay for city busses and trains,and community colleges.I suppose we should build some basketball courts so gangs will have a place to kill each other?We also have a system set up to give minorities an advantage over other races when it comes to getting a job.So we should spend more money?Taxpayers are fed up w/supporting welfare recipients!
