Excellent discussion, one that all Americans need to be able to talk about with clarity. However, given that American is in such denial, this type of global education and discussion will never happen. Sadly, the perpetuation of racism and ignorance will continue. I saw Tim Wise in lecture at Laney College in Oakland. Excellent!
If your ashamed of something you wholeheartedly agree with so much that you can't be honest about it maybe its time to deal with it. That discussion never takes place because white people rarely see racism as an issue that affects them, but it affects them the most. The economic advantages established through racism have concealed the need for this much needed discussion about the epidemic of bad behavior racism is in society.
The one thing they are right about, changing rules or laws don't work because the sad fact is most who say they are colorblind actually don't have the courage to tell the truth. They have never believed anything but white supremacy and feel entitled to not have to own that publicly. Their self-proclaimed tolerance makes it okay to simply lie and get angry when you call out racism as if its the victims fault.
