First of all I love Michael Moore. But he sounds SO disjointed in this clip. It's a common thing with him but it still is hard to listen to. Even when he spoke to the union people in Wisconsin, I thought he sounded shrill. PLEASE, Michael, take your time, relax! Find your center. You are the BEST voice out there. Make it count! We can win!
The US has the highest ratio of Specialized Care to General Practicioners in the world.
The chances of you surviving a serious illness / receiving transplants anywhere but the US if you are older is nearly zero. The EuroSocialists use euthenasia as protocol substitute for specialized care. Chilling...
The Left and the Federal government are one and the same.
While we Americans resent the forced intrusion of government into our lives, to make us all dependent on our bureaucratic overlords.
@USA4July1776 Use euthanasia as a protocol substitute for specialised care? I honestly ask you where do you get that information from? I am from the Netherlands and supposedly it is easiest to euthanize human beings. Do you have any idea how hard it still is? If the doctor doesn't get consent of the patient, he will go to jail for murder. So i ask you where do you get your information from?
@dennistolhoek Denial of care from bureaucrats such as as organ transplants or other expensive procedures that must be both approved and paid for by the government in socialist societies condemns these patients to die. If one wants or needs world-class heathcare in Europe, one must go to a private clinic.
@USA4July1776 Denial of care happens because of lack of available organs and the eligibility rules for transplants regardless of private or public health care. Are you over 65? are you (morbidly) obese? do you have any other illness? Too bad, there are more deserving patients. These rules exist in all western nations including the USA. and the US is a great place, but the affordability of medical care for the average person, I think, is a missed opportunity.
It's really unbelievable, that a great amount of the US people believe, in such a cruel unsocial health-care-system. The media have done a real good job, for the rich.
Moore is a genuis. All you talking about corps and government blah blah blah. Socialize medicine, my health care should not depend on how much money i have in the bank or the insurance afforded me by my employer. There should be no profit in medicine, its a business that should not be! Yeah lets make money on someones pain and suffering! If there was no money to be made in treatments i can almost guarantee there would be many more cures for things we only have treatments for now.
Michael Moore made the bulk of his $25 million off Capitalism (GOOGLE - celebrity net worth). He disavows Capitalism by saying “Communism has won. Socialism has prevailed” watch?v=SRRe0EFdNpI

Michael Moore states that the “Rich should share the wealth” He states that the money of the rich is ours. watch?v=wzfd_sNw2-Y
At no time does anyone call Wendell on this lame excuse "but I was working in the industry then" Why do you filthy americans think it is OK to become a monster as long as someone is paying you wages. Just disgusting. This man should not be on TV he should be going house to house apologising to dead peoples families.
@IncognitoShhh I was thinking that too. I thought Moore could have done that, but what would be the point? The guy has come out of the industry and blown the whistle on his former employer and publicly appologised for his actions. That's the only time when he makes an excuse the rest of the time he is appologetic and remorseful. The real people that should be being punished are the so-called healthcare companies, if he's helping them be punished by his book and appearing on the news then good.
@T0pcatFilms - you sound like a very fair and reasonable person. I do think it is important that people start to understand that "i was only doing my job" is the reason america has allowed the unchecked invasion of the corporation. doing your job, when it is wrong, is still wrong. a corporation who denies medical assistance to people resulting in their death based on profits is an evil entity and must be crushed. those who made it happen then need to be given a terminal illness and no medicine!
@IncognitoShhh true, he was part of the system at the time and if the company gets into legal trouble he probably shouldn't get off just caus he's sorry. But that's the job of the law, whereas Michael Moore had a choice here to either tear him a new 1 or to do what he did which was to allow a discussion on the bigger problem, which isn't how his precious movie was being misportrayed in the news, but that corporations can buy the news in the 1st place. Very tactful of him. I thank God i'm Aussie.
I mean honestly, Wendell Potter, a health insurance executive is telling you from his own experience, he was one of the people who was actually trying to screw us all over and one of the reasons we don't have a public option. One of the reasons the health debate was so very muddy.
I don't care what political stripe you are from, how does that not effect you? How can people continue to defend the health insurance companies?
Funny, people will still attack Micheal, even after seeing something like this. An insider who knows exactly what he is talking about and they would rather keep ragging on the guy who is actually trying to help them.
I keep wondering how many way can the people of this country get screwed before that actually say enough? No, they listen to Beck, blame the poor and the Mexicans and the liberal government.
@MoJoSB Moore is an idiot. The problem isn't "big corporations", its the government that makes them so big by regulating out their competition, and then gets in bed with those corporations.
You have to think about WHO wields the power. Do you really think the government does? It's the corporations, banks, wall st and it's not regulation that is the problem, it's the lack of regulations.
Do you remember when they deregulated power in California? Enron? Do you remember what happen. They raised prices, they shut down power grids and stole 70+ billion from California.
Getting rid of the regulations made that all possible.
@MoJoSB "How do regulations kill competition?"...LOL...how old are you?
Everything you said after that is based on what you learned in school or from TV, and is not based in reality. Try to start your own business and see if you can get through all the red tape that the industry has erected to keep you out. Corporations ARE GOVERNMENT MONITORED AND CONTROLLED ENTITIES. They HAVE to follow regulations - regulations that they can meet because they are big and you can't cause you're not.
@MoneyIsSilver First off, fuck you for the insult, like my fucking age has anything to do with it. Jackoff.
Second, tomorrow is my d day and I don't give a shit about what happens to this country, only what I can get out of it, JUST LIKE THE CORPORATIONS.
You can talk about the government being bad and I can talk about corporations being bad but we can't do fuck all about it. We have no power, it's why everyone is so pissed here.
@MoneyIsSilver You and MoJSB are correct. Gov is the problem especially when politicians are getting campaign contribution from these crooked insurance company's. We also need regulation but there are some regulations that are pointless but without them corporations would really be fuckin us over.
@kinglbkiv You're missing the point. These corporations wouldn't be able to abuse government if it wasn't there to use. I a real free market, CAPITALIST system, there is no government regulation OR fiat money to prop up corporations. If forced to compete against all comers, NONE, AS IN ZERO, of these corporations would still be in business. Why do large electric companies get away with so much? Because regulations keep YOU from producing your own power. This example applies to EVERYTHING
@MoneyIsSilver Your argument is valid my friend but i fear if that where implemented then corporations would start taking shortcuts and peoples well being will be the result of there carelessness or need to maximize profits. I hate corporations because they are virtually destroying this country with all the money they throw at the gov. Let me ask you what do you make of the health care bill/situation what where you in favor of doing?
@kinglbkiv Unregulate the medical profession entirely. Let anyone be a doctor. Its too easy to look up the reputation of people online now, so competence will speak for itself if you get sick. Corporations are SUPPOSED to maximize profits if they are doing it on a level playing field. Its government and regulations that tilt that playing field. Get rid of the Planners, and let individuals vote with their wallets - that's called freedom.
Who do highly educated liberals have such a hard time loving American unconditionally? The liberal elites are genetically predisposed to think the worst about the society that has helped them achieve their wealth and celebrity? Why is this? What other country on earth is better?
@pennjersey83 Michael Moore is very careful to be accurate and his lawyers go over everything to make sure it is accurate. He would be sued if it were full of shit. Can you be specific about what you thought was not accurate? I could not see anything in the documentary that was wrong. The golfer who had to return to Canada for surgery and got it, that is how it goes. I live in Canada.
United Kingdom is great. you walk in a hospital for whatever reason forget about the money they dont even ask your ID to get a treatment.I pitty Americans
@musiciankara It really is a pity isn't it? My girlfriend lives in America and doesn't have healthcare and it breaks my heart when she obviously needs a doctor but has to wait til its serious enough to go to the ER (A&E). America.....home of the brave land of the free....only if your white and rich. Such a bloody shame.
@hughes7520 America has never been united and never will be. Get ur asses outa there.even Cuba is a better option. If ur allowed there of course. I ve been to Cuba as well its the same story you walk in to a hospital they take care of you for nothing.the less the Americans travels and dont see what the rest of the world is doing is better for the government.apparently only2 percent of the americans have been to another country.you figure it out how many of them been to europe.God bless da USA :)
@kthorn612 Well i cant really speak for them but in Australia we have a first class system, we have specialists to do everything needed. We have a public system and a private system but usually the best specialists are in the public system. People have a choice between the public system or the private system, everyone is covered nobody stresses about medical bills its a non issue. Theres a lot of dishonesty from the US conservatives on this issue.
uh. um. if these two twits really believed what they were saying, they would not have so many stammering "uh" 's and "um" 's while they speak. folks that know what they are talkin about can speak fluently on their subject - even if they are wrong. At least they could have a prepared statement or scipt so they do not look like they are struggling to believe the very same thing they want us to absorbe
@shimmy870@shimmy870 You spelt a few things wrong there. absorb has no e. script has an r. talking is spelt with a g at the end of it. Grammatical sentence errors. You should of wrote: "..know what they were talking about." If you are going to lower yourself to whining about other peoples' use of language and then try and analyse it through some hack preconception you have of body language and speech - at least.. Seriously, I have to stress this.. At least - put the effort into your language.
@torkelson100 -- not everyone is eligible for Medicaid - you must show your assets are below $2,000 - it's mainly for the elderly sick & those w/ very sick little children who've used up all their money on medical bills.
The Feds pay 60%, the State 40%.
Republican Gov Rick Perry is pushing to drop Medicaid in Tex, send the Fed money back & just kick to the street the very needed.
Anyone who believes anything that comes out of this village idiot's mouth deserves to fail with him in life. If you think Obamacare is going to work speak with someone who receives care from the VA. You'll find out you're wrong. Health care is expensive now. Wait until it's "free".
@kwassmer1 It works fine in Canada,UK, Australia,France ,Germany,Sweden, Spain, Norway,Japan, Netherlands, in fact in every western democracy in the world. Obamas policy isnt even universal HC, all he did force private companies to properly insure people(like they're meant to) and get cover for the uninsured, with private companies. You fail on many levels.
Moore, you probably do research and state facts, but you never state the whole story on an issue or show all the variables involved. You just state what you want people to hear and make some cry baby dramatic story to sell your movies and live a lifestyle that is better than me. Moore, stop talking about health care until you lose weight yourself.
Mr. Potter you are a great man and I hope more people like you will come forward and shine the light of truth on the greed of for profit health care system.
One of the things that has puzzled me recently is the number of bloggers that openly favor socialism even though there are several examples of countries where it has failed and they are now turning to capitalism. Who pray-tell is rushing to leave this country like all those millions trying to get in? If we become a socialistic country we will be the laughing stalk of the world.
I have been hospitalized several times and never had any issues with my insurance company. What's more I have never heard of anyone who has and I have talked with 100s of people about their hospitalizations. The percentage of people who have had issues with their insurance company are very small. I wonder if it would be the same if the gov ran the industry?
@torkelson100 You're lucky that you didn't cost them enough to write you off. The government is good at bureaucracy, and if industry crooks can be restrained from bribing public officials then the government would do a very good job of running health care. There is no excuse for allowing insurance companies to insinuate themselves into the equation. They are parasites who are enriching themselves by denying people health care when it gets too expensive.
if any of you have not seen the movie: Senator Bullworth ... don't walk, run to your nearest movie rental store, take it home and watch it ... at least twice. : ) i LOVE MM!! a True Champion of the People for the People
If there are so many problems with the insurance industry why not let free market competition fix it, like it does in all the other industries? Or does the insurance industry (unlike all other industries) operate in some kind of secret cartel? With free market competition there's always someone else who offers a better service at a better price--again, that is, if they are not operating in a cartel.
@torkelson100 I think you're being disingenuous. You know that "free market competition" is an oxymoron. Unless there is regulation and oversight to prevent them, there are unscrupulous people in any industry who lie and cheat to get ahead, and Mr. Potter has outlined some of the lies and dirty tricks the insurance industry are using to discredit Michael Moore. Or weren't you listening because you already have your mind made up?
Like it does in all the other industries? Man I'm sorry but you've been buying the same shit for decades. Profits trump development, profits trump the truth. Your whole country is FUCKED because profits are considered a moral and logical grounds for justifying anything.
@Shelbzism When there is fraud in a company or industry it is the gov responsibility to create and/or enforce laws so that the free market can flourish. It is not the gov responsibility to take that industry over. The accusations of fraud in the insurance industry is a straw man argument intended to favor socialized health care. But fraud needs to be addressed by law enforcement.
@torkelson100 So in this comment you reveal yourself as an insurance company shill. You use the same tired scare terms "ooh, socialism...ooh, USSR!" that industry has been using in this country to stampede people into undoing all the good that was done in the 1930s via the New Deal. How despicable, and how predictable.
I can tell you from personal experience that CIGNA sucks. They denied me simple inexpensive procedures. My premiums are really high too. This would never happen in the UK.
Who's paying him now? WTF! These phony people that say whatever they're told to say are a joke. I don't care if it's Potter, O'Reilly, Hanity, Kurik, Obama, Bush, miscellaneous newscasters or who it is. This is a character issue which doesn't seem to mean much these days. As long as people hear what they like, they don't even care if it's the truth.
@czubspenx So, what exactly are you saying? Everyone lies? MM - does his research. Potter was there ... where exactly are you (trying to) coming from?
@Krowe2020 Hi...Thanks for the messages. What I am saying is that very few people now days have what is called "integrity." Integrity is saying what you believe all of the time, not what some group wants you to say. Potter was paid to say certain things and now that he no longer works for that group, he is retracting all of his statements. If he had integrity, he never would have said what he said initially. So, is he now getting paid to say what he is spouting off about now?
Speaking of being "correct" Michael...remember when you confused Capitalism with Corporatism/Crony Capitalism? Now we have millions of people believing the false pretense "Capitalism is bad". But don't take my word for it.
@EndTheFedRes In the video you reference, he hits some good points. He almost eludes to co-operative workplaces which I think could bring us back to a pure capitalism. It would also eliminate a need for government intervention and would eliminate the need for unions. Nobody has too much power in that system.
Some people seem to think that employees of a non-profit organisation don't get paid.
That people defend the idea of a third party walking away with their money for the provision of no service in return is a testament to the quality of the propoganda - it was clearly money well spent.
WOW! Incredible to hear this said by a CEO! For profit health care is not evil; it attracts great health care providers and generates revenue to advance health care research and treatment. I work in health care and will tell you that very few of us go into it primarily for profit: WE CARE. So, this made me feel wonderful to see that even those who lost their way, are able to find their soul. :-)
@jimisback Mixing profit motives with people's health and lives is BAD. We don't need a health care system that places profits as its top priority we need one that place their patients as their top priority.
@jimisback You can still work in the industry and make good money and not fuck people over ya know. The problem is when you are a part of a system that is to provide health care to people and your service is often life or death for your customers, your main concern should not be how to maximize profits. That's how a sick person usually gets dropped from their coverage. I honestly don't see what is so hard for people to understand about this.
@HabitualHobosexual there are problems, but making a profit is not it. Without profit, everything slows down. R&D mostly, buying the latest new equipment, Students not coming into the field, Doctors leaving. Only about 8000 of the said 360,000 people, have signed up for the pre-existing conditions crap. That was one one the biggest drivers of this thing. This is happening NOW. Wait till the rest goes into effect.
@jimisback Making a profit is one thing, making a profit because you reject claims and deny coverage is another. Squeezing every last penny at the expense of a person's health is whats going on. These companies are making record profits and yet our cost as costumers goes up and coverage goes down. The rate of uninsured is horrifying.
@HabitualHobosexual Rates for the uninsured is nothing. They go to the emergancy room and the tax payer pays it. They will get billed, but don't pay it.They can not be refused care. I agree it needs fixing. But this is not it.
@jimisback I can agree Obama's health care bill isn't the fix, far from it. But our current system is severely flawed and is horrible for our country. So you are saying the uninsured can go get cancer treatment or a heart transplant in the ER? Sure they can't be refused for being admitted and they will treat as needed, but its a far cry from actually giving somebody proper treatment or preventive medicine.
@HabitualHobosexual Well I have proof. I am not from this country. I live here but am from N. Ireland. I am not a citizen of the USA. I am an Irish citizen. I have lived here for years. I love this country. I love MY country also. I served here in the US NAVY. Served in Beruit in 1980s to 1985. My wife is American. She had cancer. We didn't have the money. My Uncle came over to visit from Belfast. He had problems with his heart for years. He had a problem while here. They did it and fixed it.
@jimisback Ok my friend is going back to school at age 32 and she had to get an appendectomy, she now owes $13,000 put that on top of student loan debts she is already in the hole and severely in debt before she even finishes school. Medical debts account for at the very least a third of bankruptcies in this country. It's pretty discouraging to go seek help when you know you are going to face a huge amount of debt. So the ER got rid of your wifes cancer? How much did that cost you?
@HabitualHobosexual Sorry she owes dept to the school. But my wife had insurance, and then the second time she still had insurance. And now she still does. Funny how that works. And we only make 45K a year.
@jimisback Ok so she had insurance....that's awesome. You made it sound as if that was your proof of the uninsured being taken care of. Well my friend makes about $10k a year because she is a full time student and part time worker. She can barely afford to pay living expenses. All this because she decided to better herself and go back to school. Sounds more like punishment to me. That's the reality a lot of people face in this country.
@HabitualHobosexual So a full time student is making money to pay for the tuition? Bull shit. They are trying to make it. Mum and Da are making the payments. Get off your lazy ass ass do it your self. Ask your mum and da. I have worked from age 13 till 18 before I joined the Navy. You people make me laugh.
@jimisback You're making an assumption that is completely wrong. Her dad is dead and mom lives about 850 miles away. She rents a room from an old lady. She's taking out student loans to pay for her tuition. How the fuck is she lazy? A full time student, studying, and working nights and weekends. Not everybody wants to be a fucking meat shield and fight fucked up wars that don't need to be fought. The fact is you don't know what you're talking about so now you get upset and call people lazy.
@jimisback What you are is a tool for corporatism. I really doubt everything you've said in your comments. It sounds like you're shilling for the insurance industry, and if so you're despicable. If you really believe the things you've said, however, then you're just a credulous puppet for people who are robbing us all to death...literally.
@HabitualHobosexual Yes, I'm sure government bureaucrats will put the patients as their top priority... go to a hospital in a socialist system and see for yourself.
The "DEATH PANELS" were created by the Insurance Industry when they started giving their claims reps. bonuses for deniying your claims! You have Cancer..Denied! Turn off your TV's and do your own research and then you can see through their bullshit. Most of my fellow Americans are just plain stupid and believe everything they see and hear on TV and what the bought and paid for Politicians tell them to believe, think and feel!
@PsychStudent85 Congrats on seeing the truth. We Canadians used to have your system decades ago and we got rid of it and haven't looked back. We are very satisfied with our healthcare system, so don't believe the propaganda. We have only one drawback to our system and that is longer wait times for elective procedures. Elective means non-life threatening. But people who need help eg. Cancer are never, ever denied the treatment they need.
@56chevydog No one does........in every other country, that is. The U.S. has the highest number of "medical bankruptcies."
You should see the famous youtube video of Senator Al Franken just hammering a so called expert who was testifying before congress on this very subject. If a verbal shotgun had 4 barrels. ....then he gave her all 4 barrels!. It was hilarious as she tried to put a spin on it and was caught.
She made the mistake of tangling with a guy who had done his homework.
The poor have always been screwed by the rich, always have always will. What is sad is when the very poople who are being screwed support the people who are screwing them aka the republicans. I,m talking about evey one living in a small town in the mid west & the south.
WOW I cannot believe Americans have to work with this shit health care system. Being Canadian myself I have never really had to worry the "what if" scenario.
They did this to Ralph Nader when his book, 'Unsafe at Any Speed', came out. You have to be doing something right, Mike, to get them this scared. Don't ever back down.
I'm a Canadian resident and I really appreciate our health-care system. It's not perfect BUT, it's priority based, doesn't favour the rich, and it's miles ahead of the system in the States. Cheers to Michael and all those seeking morality over profits!!
God bless you Michael Moore. You are for the people who get up and go to work everyday. Why else would Pharm and the Inrsurance companies go after you?
You can't have both, it is either govt. or the free-markets, limited govt. is still govt.! Once you have govt. intervention, they will ALWAYS find away to screw the constituent over in favor of govt. institutions & corporate monopolies! As long as you have lobbyist pimps, you will ALWAYS have Congressional WHORES (Freshman or Senior) govt. corruption will never end, unless you eliminate it!
Local communities can stand against corrupt businesses, you don't need govt. to stop it!
This is all caused by govt.! Health insurance companies are corporate monopolies because of govt. lobbyist on Capitol Hill. If govt. would stay out, then we wouldn't have these corporate monopolies because lobbyist, special interest groups wouldn't exist!
Competition in the free-markets, would drive a corrupt business away & local communities can unite against hatred & bigotry without govt. intervention. We don't need govt. because govt. enables this by BAILING THEM OUT!
@SocialismNow81 i know it didnt and it was a travesty but what your guys did get was guttless america has suffered enough and being an outsider who has benefitted from socialised medicine i was horrified to see obama backflip and call universal not even an option.
Im sorry but just like my country america is run by the corporation.
Michael Moore is a hypocrite; he lives in Bel Air-- has top notch insurance......... Donate some of your fat paycheck to your causes and stop trying to take money out of my wallet.
@NnEzeadi Yeah- he ferries some people to Cuba and buys them knockoff drugs at 10 cents a piece. Some philanthropist.
I pay for nursing care for my elders--- I could opt out and let the state foot the bill; but we are using the service. People deserve to be compensated for their work- and I am glad to pay. I don't ask others to pay for my bills.
Put your money where your mouth is-- sell your Bel Air home; donate it to charity and live in a Flint house.
hmmm being an aussie who followed and frequently blogged on these issues hopping the yanks would get universal healthcare only to be told I was a weak communist australian faggot not worthy of drinking australias pristine water...(it isnt were just as polluted as any other irrasponsible 1st world country) I would like to take the time to say YESSSSSSS IN YOUR FUCKING FACE FUCKWADS!
To all the yanks out their who supported the universal health care/any care at all bill only not to get it, sorry.
Wow! To see a glimps of the shadow gov., quite refreshing, too bad never anything about those who pulled off 911, even michael moore wont touch that one.....
At this moment, I can't think of anything good a federal employee does. If they're so smart with their Masters degree's maybe they should do something more productive with their time besides leeching off the tax payers. FYI: I happen to have a Masters degree. With that and a buck fifty I can buy a cup of coffee.
why isn't one of America's most outspoken critics in Congress? This man needs to be in Washington to give them the Hell they deserve. Beat BushObama! Get off your knees people.
The two things that most need to be nationalized in this country are health care and education, the fact we haven't gotten there yet is proof our government is TOTALLY controlled by corporations. It's strange to see my true homeland, Sweden, doing the right thing with nationalized health and education, and then hear the neo-cons and misguided libertarians in the US scream about how broken my socialist homeland is when Sweden outranks the US in health care, education, wages and happiness.
the profit motive does not belong in health care, it is downright immoral, it does not provide incentives to provide better care, just the reverse, the less care provided the more profit. the profit motive works fine if you are making cars or computers but not if you are providing health care.
@pn2543 the profit motive works fine if you are making cars or computers. Really? Like GM you mean? No, no it doesn't. Pull your head out of your ass and look around you. Capitalism is coming apart at the sides.
Someone in the US Health Care Industry really does have a conscience, well done sir!!!!

@dennistolhoek Denial of care from bureaucrats such as as organ transplants or other expensive procedures that must be both approved and paid for by the government in socialist societies condemns these patients to die. If one wants or needs world-class heathcare in Europe, one must go to a private clinic.
USA4July1776 8 months ago
@USA4July1776 Denial of care happens because of lack of available organs and the eligibility rules for transplants regardless of private or public health care. At no time does anyone call Wendell on this lame excuse "but I was working in the industry then" Why do you filthy americans think it is OK to become a monster as long as someone is paying you wages. Just disgusting. This man should not be on TV he should be going house to house apologising to dead peoples families.
IncognitoShhh 1 year ago
@IncognitoShhh I was thinking that too. I thought Moore could have done that, but what would be the point? The guy has come out of the industry and blown the whistle on his former employer and publicly appologised for his actions. That's the only time when he makes an excuse the rest of the time he is appologetic and remorseful. The real people that should be being punished are the so-called healthcare companies, if he's helping them be punished by his book and appearing on the news then good.
T0pcatFilms 1 year ago
@T0pcatFilms - you sound like a very fair and reasonable person. I do think it is important that people start to understand that "i was only doing my job" is the reason america has allowed the unchecked invasion of the corporation. doing your job, when it is wrong, is still wrong. a corporation who denies medical assistance to people resulting in their death based on profits is an evil entity and must be crushed. those who made it happen then need to be given a terminal illness and no medicine!
IncognitoShhh 1 year ago

I just don't understand it. I really don't.

@MoJoSB Moore is an idiot. The problem isn't "big corporations", its the government that makes them so big by regulating out their competition, and then gets in bed with those corporations.
MoneyIsSilver 1 year ago
@MoneyIsSilver How do regulations kill competition?
You have to think about WHO wields the power. Do you really think the government does? It's the corporations, banks, wall st and it's not regulation that is the problem, it's the lack of regulations.
Do you remember when they deregulated power in California? Enron? Do you remember what happen. They raised prices, they shut down power grids and stole 70+ billion from California.
Getting rid of the regulations made that all possible.
MoJoSB 1 year ago
@MoJoSB "How do regulations kill competition?"...LOL...how old are you?
Everything you said after that is based on what you learned in school or from TV, and is not based in reality. Try to start your own business and see if you can get through all the red tape that the industry has erected to keep you out. Corporations ARE GOVERNMENT MONITORED AND CONTROLLED ENTITIES. They HAVE to follow regulations - regulations that they can meet because they are big and you can't cause you're not.
MoneyIsSilver 1 year ago
@MoneyIsSilver First off, fuck you for the insult, like my fucking age has anything to do with it. Jackoff.
Second, tomorrow is my d day and I don't give a shit about what happens to this country, only what I can get out of it, JUST LIKE THE CORPORATIONS.
You can talk about the government being bad and I can talk about corporations being bad but we can't do fuck all about it. We have no power, it's why everyone is so pissed here.
Money is the only real power and freedom.
MoJoSB 1 year ago
@MoJoSB It wasn't an insult - you appear young and naive when you ask , "How do regulations kill competition?"
What is a corporation? Can you explain how it is different from a private company?
MoneyIsSilver 1 year ago
@MoneyIsSilver You and MoJSB are correct. Gov is the problem especially when politicians are getting campaign contribution from these crooked insurance company's. We also need regulation but there are some regulations that are pointless but without them corporations would really be fuckin us over.
kinglbkiv 1 year ago
@kinglbkiv You're missing the point. These corporations wouldn't be able to abuse government if it wasn't there to use. I a real free market, CAPITALIST system, there is no government regulation OR fiat money to prop up corporations. If forced to compete against all comers, NONE, AS IN ZERO, of these corporations would still be in business. Why do large electric companies get away with so much? Because regulations keep YOU from producing your own power. This example applies to EVERYTHING
MoneyIsSilver 1 year ago
@MoneyIsSilver Your argument is valid my friend but i fear if that where implemented then corporations would start taking shortcuts and peoples well being will be the result of there carelessness or need to maximize profits. I hate corporations because they are virtually destroying this country with all the money they throw at the gov. Let me ask you what do you make of the health care bill/situation what where you in favor of doing?
kinglbkiv 1 year ago
@kinglbkiv Unregulate the medical profession entirely. Let anyone be a doctor. Its too easy to look up the reputation of people online now, so competence will speak for itself if you get sick. Corporations are SUPPOSED to maximize profits if they are doing it on a level playing field. Its government and regulations that tilt that playing field. Get rid of the Planners, and let individuals vote with their wallets - that's called freedom.

Theres a lot of dishonesty from the US conservatives on this issue.

In the US there is never more than a day at the very, very most for surgery. And that is with top doctors who confer with Drs from Mayo etc.
Note: In the US all get gov coverage (safety net) if they can show they can't pay--Medicaid. This has been true for 40+ years.

@torkelson100 You're lucky that you didn't cost them enough to write you off. The government is good at bureaucracy, and if industry crooks can be restrained from bribing public officials then the government would do a very good job of running health care. They are parasites who are enriching themselves by denying people health care when it gets too expensive.

If there are so many problems with the insurance industry why not let free market competition fix it, like it does in all the other industries? Or does the insurance industry (unlike all other industries) operate in some kind of secret cartel? With free market competition there's always someone else who offers a better service at a better price--again, that is, if they are not operating in a cartel.
torkelson100 1 year ago

Shelbzism 1 year ago
@Shelbzism When there is fraud in a company or industry it is the gov responsibility to create and/or enforce laws so that the free market can flourish. It is not the gov responsibility to take that industry over. The accusations of fraud in the insurance industry is a straw man argument intended to favor socialized health care. But fraud needs to be addressed by law enforcement.

Some people seem to think that employees of a non-profit organisation don't get paid.
That people defend the idea of a third party walking away with their money for the provision of no service in return is a testament to the quality of the propoganda - it was clearly money well spent.

@HabitualHobosexual If you don't mind working for nothing go right ahead. And good for you.
jimisback 1 year ago
@jimisback You can still work in the industry and make good money and not fuck people over ya know. The problem is when you are a part of a system that is to provide health care to people and your service is often life or death for your customers, your main concern should not be how to maximize profits. That's how a sick person usually gets dropped from their coverage. I honestly don't see what is so hard for people to understand about this.
HabitualHobosexual 1 year ago
@HabitualHobosexual there are problems, but making a profit is not it. Without profit, everything slows down. R&D mostly, buying the latest new equipment, Students not coming into the field, Doctors leaving. Only about 8000 of the said 360,000 people, have signed up for the pre-existing conditions crap. That was one one the biggest drivers of this thing. This is happening NOW. Wait till the rest goes into effect.
jimisback 1 year ago
@jimisback Making a profit is one thing, making a profit because you reject claims and deny coverage is another. Squeezing every last penny at the expense of a person's health is whats going on. These companies are making record profits and yet our cost as costumers goes up and coverage goes down. The rate of uninsured is horrifying.
HabitualHobosexual 1 year ago
@HabitualHobosexual Rates for the uninsured is nothing. They go to the emergancy room and the tax payer pays it. They will get billed, but don't pay it.They can not be refused care. I agree it needs fixing. But this is not it.
jimisback 1 year ago
@jimisback I can agree Obama's health care bill isn't the fix, far from it. But our current system is severely flawed and is horrible for our country. So you are saying the uninsured can go get cancer treatment or a heart transplant in the ER? Sure they can't be refused for being admitted and they will treat as needed, but its a far cry from actually giving somebody proper treatment or preventive medicine.

All this because she decided to better herself and go back to school. Sounds more like punishment to me. That's the reality a lot of people face in this country.

Local communities can stand against corrupt businesses, you don't need govt. to stop it!
North2016 1 year ago
This is all caused by govt.! Health insurance companies are corporate monopolies because of govt. lobbyist on Capitol Hill. If govt. would stay out, then we wouldn't have these corporate monopolies because lobbyist, special interest groups wouldn't exist!
Competition in the free-markets, would drive a corrupt business away & local communities can unite against hatred & bigotry without govt. intervention. We don't need govt. because govt. enables this by BAILING THEM OUT!

Michael Moore is a hypocrite; he lives in Bel Air-- has top notch insurance......... Donate some of your fat paycheck to your causes and stop trying to take money out of my wallet.

@michaelscottboston he actually does.............do your research
NnEzeadi 1 year ago
@NnEzeadi Yeah- he ferries some people to Cuba and buys them knockoff drugs at 10 cents a piece. Some philanthropist.
I pay for nursing care for my elders--- I could opt out and let the state foot the bill; but we are using the service. People deserve to be compensated for their work- and I am glad to pay. I don't ask others to pay for my bills.
Put your money where your mouth is-- sell your Bel Air home; donate it to charity and live in a Flint house.

@SocialismNow81 Medicare and Social Security are abject failures. The programs are supported by people who think they are getting money for free.

At this moment, I can't think of anything good a federal employee does. If they're so smart with their Masters degree's maybe they should do something more productive with their time besides leeching off the tax payers. FYI: I happen to have a Masters degree. With that and a buck fifty I can buy a cup of coffee.

TheUSMetalhead 1 year ago 3
the profit motive does not belong in health care, it is downright immoral, it does not provide incentives to provide better care, just the reverse, the less care provided the more profit. the profit motive works fine if you are making cars or computers but not if you are providing health care.

@pn2543 the profit motive works fine if you are making cars or computers. Really? Like GM you mean? No, no it doesn't. Pull your head out of your ass and look around you. Capitalism is coming apart at the sides.
