Revolver was the point when your average street herbert and punk philosophy started to find common ground. Probably 1978 was an interesting point sociologically because the initial elitism of early punk was transforming and being absorbed into the mainstream and for me, that's the point when society started changing in terms of fashion, attitude and even spirit. When the masses start evolving, you know something revolutionary is going on.
make you all jealous now cos im a fucking god ...ok . 1979 this sexy lead singer gave me a neck massage when i was only 15.. i was working part time at a hotel and it was sexy as fuck ... good memeories .. she said i looked stressed .. brilliant days.
Yes. Apart from the actual fact that some great bands played live to an audience, the show's format proved to be a television disaster. Peter Cook broadcast introductions and tried to make jokes via a big screen. He just didn't pull it off; some of it was positively embarrassing. The ratings were terrible, and the show soon got axed. Leaving a legacy of some clips great for YouTube !
@roddy76to86 The show was fuckin' SUPERB but many didn't watch as it was on late Saturday night before many got back from the pub and pre-video recorder days for most people. I, aged 15 at the time loved the show in the summer of '78 as many others who watched did too
There was great music so it was good for that, especially for us YouTubers now. What I've read is the format was considered terrible by every critic in the land (yes I know, what do they matter, but they matter to TV companies) and then with poor ratings it was axed. I'm 48 as well, but don't recall watching it, so it can't have been shown in Scotland. We probably got the ITV version of the "White Heather Club" ! That was AWFUL. Do a search for it, an embarrassment to Scotland !
@roddy76to86 Yes I will and will get back to you. The thing is though that REVOLVER was only on for 30 minutes per show with one commercial break but it packed in about five great performances during the half hour and also included a 'retro spot' which played a number, usually from the 60s, like Top Of The Pops ; I remember one time it was Massachusetts by the Bee Gees, in black and white of course. Cook was his usual witty self so I thought it a great little show
It was Peter Cook being on a big screen as if he was the god of the show that bugged a lot of the critics, and many viewers as well. But whatever the reason, the show was a viewer ratings flop, and so they didn't do another series. ITV had to rely on advertising revenue after all, so a Saturday evening flop just wasn't feasible. It's main legacy is good quality footage of the bands at the time that nobody else was recording, until the OGWT "studio revolt" booted out all the hippies.
@roddy76to86 But lots of critics are morons ; he wasn't there thinking he was 'God of the show' but he WAS a big comedy name and his cynical comments were designed deliberately by the producers as a kind of copy of his 'Bedazzled' movie character persona ; he would be the compare of a run down nightclub who hated the punk acts whilst introducing them.He didn't do much more than introduce each act with a usually witty put down or something so maybe they criticised that too much. Ratings WERE poor
I'm pretty sure everyone in there is as high as Heaven, including The Rezillos.Anyways, awesome song :).I love how she's struggling to pronounce so that people can understand her...Guessing she's Scottish xD.
Wow!! Everybody is pogoing to this great song and thats what I call old school punk/alternative before slam dancing came into the picture. That Fay Fife sure knows how to shake it!!!
@Dzsingisz01: You have no idea about what are you talking about. They were totally new wave. You cant easily find information about then on the web. But it suggest that you can read. You said "them were shit", Perhaps reasons, sources about that?-
actually sweetie you can indeed compare the fab rezillos with the B-52s -boyz in bikinis/girls on surfboards/ rock lobster! peace and loveand a happy new year to you xxx
WHoah! But you're not TOO SURE are you, that you were only being "tongue in cheek" - if you've taken the snide comment down! Appears that you're the "touchy" one sweetie.
So glad you appreciate good tunes. I think her outfit is as individually cool now as ever. BTW the era with the genre termed "dance" was at least a decade later anyway. So please stop being mad and humourless. No disrespect intended.
Saw these guys at Glasgow Tiffanys 1980 they recently rebanded nice to see them back again thats whats missing these days the fun and looks and dress sense bring it all back man
A bunch of fuckin' nutters but really good nutters. Back in 78 i used to play this on my local pub jukebox and no one but me liked it as it was only me that liked punk.
Pure Glam/Punk/RnB/ Garage..POP!!!!, one of those bands who werent punk but had punk attitude, the Rezillos were fun with a capitol F, and lets not forget guitarist Jo Callis was responsible for some of the Human League's biggest hits
Oh my God, I'd forgotten Revolver. ITV's attempt to be cool in 1978. I'm still laughing. Peter Cook looking like Johnny Rotten's Dad on a screen above the stage. Really toe curling. But the Rezillo's were great. Kind of silly. But good pop.
failed? this video doesn't do the rezillos justice, the vocals were terrible in this recording. Give them another chance, watch destination venus or something.
Funny thing is, if these guys could be ported to the year 2008 (and you make her hair-do a bit more spiky), same clothes, etc, they'd probably do quite well!
one or to things to say here werealldevo A - Its top of the pops studio what do u expect B- watch quastrophelia it will give you an insight into the era of mods, C - that was the style back then just as bashing ur head all over the place is common now aka so called moshing and lastly who the flying fuck cares how yah dance as long as yah have a good time.
the only redeming thing you have bro is the fact Devo is contained in ur name so i wont be to harsh.
BRING BACK THE POGO!!! I'm ancient enough to have watched as Pogoing gave way to Slamdancing, which was still cool. But as time went by,and things got stupider,Slamming gave way to Moshing. In the early days,if you fell down in the pit,a dozen people pulled you back up,usually before your butt hit the floor. Later, when folks lost their footing, they'd get the hell stomped out of them by brainless thugs, who thought this kind of shit was funny. At Woodstock 94,idiots moshed to Van Morrison...
i agree. i just look at this & i'm like...you're watching the rezillos...stop pretending to have fun & actually have fun...of course a tv program like this they were probably bussed in by the producers & were told to pretend like they like the band.
I wasn't talking about the music. I like the Rezillos, a lot; and the Jam & gen x & slaughter and the dogs & a lot of other british bands. I was making fun of the dancing.
