I like that – it's really more of an interpretation than just a cover of that tune! They don't try to emulate Billy Cobham's bands but do their own thing – with a guitarist who sometimes sounds a bit like Jim Campilongo plugged into a high voltage socket... very cool!
Fuck shit holy say what? There are no rules in free form and that's what's going down here wickedly so. Time to step out and sample what life is all about. There is an awsome vibe going here no matter what the label says. I love it! Fuck that's so good!
I am sick of people and groups using famous names to get a hit. And they almost always suck! If you can't get musicians to listen to you based on your own musical statements then you probably suck ass. This is lame as hell. Listen to the original. I hate being tricked! Here's a tip; don't try to copy a Billy tune while trying to emulate Bonham. It sounds pathetic.
Oh boo fucking hoo, you're watching a brilliant cover instead of the original artist, its still a great performance and I doubt you can get 2 of your friends and do better. It never said that it was actually Cobham performing it, it only said that Red Baron is by Cobham. Calm the fuck down and press the back button if you dont like the vid.
Shut up poindexter. The title is misleading. If this band is so brilliant as you infer, then why don't they post under their own name? If you think this is brilliant, then you must think Lawrence Welk is pure unadulterated genius!
Pointdexter? Haha last time I heard that I fell off my dinosaur...How the fuck does the phrase "Poddighe Version" mean it was be Cobham? You are the only idiot here for not reading the full title. Once again, you talk a lot of shit but do not back it up. Your channel has no vids, and 3 comments from people who hate the shit ouf of you. Go outside and make some friends you bitter piece of shit.
You rode a dinosaur? Makes sense; you both appear to share a pea size brain. You have a fabulous command of the english language BTW. Those 1 syllable 4 letter words just seem to effortlessly roll off the tip of your forked tongue. What do you burn economy only to speak? You can't possibly be a good musician; you lack the required articulation. You're a spoiled child, an intellectual dolt. Quit drinking your bath water and take something for your constipation. Talk about a bitter piece of dung.
You know this dialogue has made me think. I stand by my original premise (don't post under famous musicians) I didn't know that "proddighe" was an Italian band. I thought it was a play on words eg; prodigy. But I was unnecessarily harsh in saying they sucked. They don't. I have bad days. When you challenged me, I became defensive and arrogant. I apologise. I put out bad karma and got it back. You're right, I must post some of my own stuff; fair is fair. I will appraise you so you can judge.
@TheJetfighter666: I don't know if this this is going to be funny or not, we should be asking to the musicians, anyway it seems to work! I got a grinse by listening anfd it is enough!!!
Fucking Boring! I hate people that get to serious. Music is supposed to fun! Tommy always kept it fun! To these guys it looks like work. Fates warning / Dream Theater syndrome!
You can find it right here on Youtube (Tommy playing) as well as on his website. I know you can find it on one of his live cd's. He's got probably a couple dozen or so released through his archives site.
clayereeder-not fu...n gay.Great! i was thrown off by the fact that this was a tribute by an Italian group. didn,t see a black guy on drums, and that threw me for a loop. superb quality guitar playing. great interpretation of solo. bolin was a relatively obscure player except for d.p james gang etc. you,ll never probably never know who,ll do another cover of one of his songs.
"relatively obscure player"?! Little factoid: All very serious guitar players place Tommy on the top shelf of having been the one who really put rock/fusion together. He reinvigorated Jeff Beck, and, Jeff will tell you that himself. Study up and do your research before posting bro.
That's what I always try to get into some of my rock friends thick skulls, is that Tommy Bolin was the first rock guitar playing with fusion heavyweight Billy Cobham, ...
I heard during the session it took longer because Bolin didn't read music. Bolin soloed like a rock guitarist in a fusion setting making Spectrum the only time I ever heard that succeed. The Jeff Beck efforts were so weak next what Bolin did with Cobham.
incredible solos in Stratus, Quadrant 4 and Taurian Matador
Indeed. This can't be overstated. In fact, you could justifiably say "Tommy Bolin invented fusion guitar playing" if you really consider it. That Spectrum album is a watershed event. Absolutely nobody had ever done what he did at that time. A guitar player walks in to a session in 1973 and lays down smoking rock guitar within a Jazz context and it not only works and fits, it's brilliantly executed with flawless accuracy and feel. Just one listen to the "Stratus" track is all you need do.
glad someone else hears it that way. Bolin's attack style of playing guitar on Stratus- controlling all the effects he had going in that big, searing guitar tone,....well Hendrix would have flipped. that's how good that was.
Bolin always had a little bebop in his playing and could accelerate with super fluidity but always somehow kept that rock edge in his tone. all those solos are unpredictable, blazing and clean.
Let me tell you something about Tommy. I had the chance to talk with Johnnie (his brother) a few times when he lived in Minneapolis (where I lived at the time) and was playing in Dare Force. I mentioned to him that what was so noteworthy and unique about Tommy was that he was a person that was very gifted with amazing rhythm. He "played to the song", in that, he would play a solo that fit a song perfectly. He knew precisely where he, and, the rest of the band was in during all parts of the song.
uh yeah, that's not tommy bolin either. it's a cover tune of a cobham song. it's from cobhams first album in 1973 called spectrum with tommy bolin playing guitar on it. this is a cover tune by the italian group "poddighe".
Yeah that's right, but this is a good cover or "version" of the song. Sounds like that drummer is inspired some by John Bonham aswell, solo from Moby Dick. Interesting.
OH GOD, I MISS TOMMY BOLIN SO MUCH.
