  • <_< the ghetto version of this song must be really messed up xD JK

    I <3 this song ^_^

  • frank oz is the doctor

  • man, i love this...wish to be a kid again and forget about tapping people out...

  • STRANGER DANGER.

  • 80s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • David aka Northern Callway sang this song too. RIP Northern Callaway

  • A big kale sale

  • I have been seen firefighters and that is a NEW Sesame Street! Hooper Store have a smoke there, and Maria calls Firefighter using 911.

  • @chellyashrie

I saw that one. The last time I checked, it was still up on You Tube.

  • Hmmm? Look like the doctor's ritght arm is broken....It's just flopping around as he moves.

  • i might sound crazy but someone answer me : there's a sesame street about trying something for the first time. i don't remember much of the lyrics and i doubt 1/5 of the line would help, reply if you know the song :D

  • @78violetfantic It has something to do with trying a new fruit or vegetable, i can't remember it though, I just remember the skit.

  • @78violetfantic not sure if it relates to that but there is an old joe raposo song "trying and trying" where the video is a tree frog climbing a tree! great old school video

  • I'm a 90's bady

  • absolutely classic :) so cheerful, so seventies too...

  • the 8 dislikes on this video... i'm sure those puppets scared them... they had me for a sec..lol

  • i cant believe this guy is nearly 80 now

  • When the teenagers loiter outside our house, we've got a corner home, I get on my piano and play this song , followed by I love trash, followed by C is for cookie, followed by rubber duckie. They scatter like roaches. Works every time. Misguided miscreants wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them.

  • @valarierenee do u just play them on the piano, or do u sing them too??? i'd be surprised if it didn't bother other neighbors! LOL yeah teens nowadays like that crap like Katy Perry, Lady Gag Me, Taylor Swift and all this baloney! THAT is not music at all!!!

  • @jusaLOSER

I rarely sing those songs when I play but I ALWAYS sing and tear up when I play "It's not easy being green" because it's such a beautiful melancholy song and I'm reminded of how much I miss Jim Henson (I never met him but I miss him just the same) & I always sing and laugh when I play Grover's "What Do I Do When I'm Alone" That melody is lovely too but I laugh because I'm reminded of my dirty brother riffing on the innuendo in that song as he got older. Dumb but funny

  • @valarierenee i would like to find the video for Grover's sketch where he sings "i am not afraid" i think of that whenever i think of old school sesame street! LOL

  • how can anyone dislike this its bob hes an all time legend

  • lol a big kale sale!

  • this was my baby boys and miy favorite song too, i still remember things for the show over the decades! This is classic!

  • This song brings back so much memories ._.

  • How come Mr. Rogers never sang this? It would be PERFECT!

  • @Satoshi9801 because he was BORING!!!! he could never come up with this type of song!

  • Check out Bob Mcgrath's web site! His name dotcom.

  • Youtube Version...

A YouTuber has various things to do

Like posting videos & making a comment or 2

They voice views that are horrid or sweet

    On everything, including Sesame Street

'Cause a YouTuber is a person in your neighborhood

    In your neighborhood

    In your neighborhood

Yes, a YouTuber is a person in your neighborhood

A person that you meet (online) each day

  • @TherealRNO Cute!

  • @ClazyForClaleigh26: I thought it fit the situation (the song, in this case).

  • I totally need to make my own version of this:

  • Bob is my original role model. I still (and always will) hold him in the highest regard

  • I forgot about Bob. He informed my childhood; him and Joe Raposo.

  • Once I discoverd a kitty doing something in my backyard, the cat looked up at me and said: "I'm in your neighborhood fixin' your plants."

Then there was a akward silence. Then he cuted all my beautiful plants with a pair of scissors.

  • A crack whore is a person in your neighborhood.....hahahaha.....

  • does anybody know what Bobs' surname is, please..??? I'd love to google him and learn more about this guy who was SO everpresent in my childhood years !!!!! (I always thought he was that piano playing guy, is it Neil Sedaka??, when I was in my early teens!!) lol

  • @mickwade1 Bob McGrath :)

  • @JimmyCaravan thanks mate.. !! - mick ;-0

  • @mickwade1 On the show apparently it's Johnson, but his real name is Robert Emmet McGrath. On June 13 he (get this!) turned 79! I believe his wife's name is Ann and I have no idea about how many children and GRANDchildren he has. His last known address was Teaneck New Jersey. Don't forget to check out a YouTube clip for his 1966 appearance on "To Tell the Truth" - amazing stuff.

  • I may have just cheered when I saw Bob. I miss being a kid.

  • A classic Sesame Street song, but slightly blasphemous in that for a song about a neighborhood, there's no appearance by Mister Rogers.

  • @nepomusik: But Mister Rogers guest-starred on the show in the 70's, just as Big Bird appeared in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe around the same time.

  • @TherealRNO

Lol it was a sarcastic comment. Yeah I'm aware that both Mister Rogers and Big Bird guest-starred in each other's shows. I just find it funny that you'd think Mister Rogers would be in a song about a neighborhood.

  • @nepomusik: He could've been, since he has one of his own, after all, & he did guest star on Sesame Street.

  • awsome!! Now..this is the Sesame Street that I grew up with...30 some years ago! Funny how you remember the songs from when you were like 4 years old!! I am 38 now! HA HA

  • a kale sale.. lol :)

  • HI BOB!

  • he was so hot.

  • Had noah watching this made me nostalgic

  • Michael Steele is a person in your neighborhood, in your neighbor hood, in your neighbor hood.

  • a pedo bear lives in my neighborhood he likes to hang by the school a lot

  • kale sale!

  • Michael Steele!!!!

  • I miss the old sesame street, well the generation I grew up in....80's baby!

  • @blugeminiguy I miss the 70's ;)

  • @blugeminiguy

    80"s??? You're just a kid.

    ;)

I grew up watching in the 70's. I tried to watch Sesame Street with my grandaughter a few months ago when she was sick. It was just horrible! I bought her the "Old School, Vol. 1" dvd. My son says she refuses to watch the new shows now. It's Old School Sesame Street for her or nothing at all!

  • @CapHusky

For some reason, knowing that your granddaughter prefers watching old school SS makes me happy to hear it. I grew up in the 80s too, but just the same nothing beats old school Sesame Street. Brings back good memories :)

  • @blugeminiguy I'm an 80s baby too

  • @blugeminiguy I agree. I missed the old sesame street. I remember Mr. Hooper. I'm a 70s baby

  • RIP Jim Henson..

  • I remember watching this, n singing along!!!!! hahahahha

    Aaaaw sweet gentle memories :)

  • 1969

  • Has anyone noted that Jim Henson performed most Fat Blue AMs in the first season of Sesame Street ?

  • @Clamanath Tru Dat and the thin AMs were usually done by Frank Oz it seems

  • @Bigben1984 By the way, did you notice that the doctor's eye and nose are a little desorganized ?

  • @Clamanath Carroll Spinney would do AM's too

Anyone else think the doctor looks like Rod from Avenue Q all he needs is to be blue and have hair how about a 1969 version of the people in your neighborhood with these jobs?

    Animal Tamer and Farmer

    Steward and Pilot

    Window Washer and Mover

  • the grocer is sesame streets dani deveto

  • @thenashus4

LOL that made me laugh :D

  • lol you can totally tell thats Jim Henson voice

  • i believe bob mcgrath was my first crush....then grover

  • @kkz201

My first real TV crush was Julie Kinisky from "Gimme a Break!". Lauri Hendler is really my kind of babe!

  • Bob looks so young!

  • if by chance your feeling sick ill play around with your .... heart

  • Is that Carl Sagan?

  • Is who Carl Sagan?

  • @Garrettk41

The one that looks like Carl Sagan ;)

  • Loved it as a kid in the 70's, and still love it!!

  • according to the wikipedia website frank did the voice of grover, bert, and cookie monster and that doesn't count the muppet show or yoda. To me when i think about besides my dad the 2 most influential people in my life i can think of are jim henson and frank oz.

  • lol, I always used to listen to this and think you don't necessarily meet all the people in your neighbourhood each day!

I mean, I live in the same neighbourhood as the U.K's tallest man, but I've only seen him about 3 times in 10 years!

  • keal????

  • What year did this came out? BTW did Bob's hair turn from black to brown over course of the show? Bob looks good for his age today.

  • Is it me, or do the doctor's eyes look a little crossed? Oh well, he's cute.

This is a perfect elementary school song, too. Who doesn't love it?

  • When they did these People in Your Neighborhood skits I can't ever figure out why they NEVER mentioned people like prostitues, pimps, hitmen, bookies, or drug dealers that are in the neighborhood.

  • I think Jim Henson is the grocer and Frank Oz is the doctor

  • @ravengurl92 Yep!

  • @ravengurl92 Have to disagree on the doctor, it sounds to me almost exactly like Bert!

  • @YSASparhawk What do you mean? The doctor sounds exactly like Bert, which means it IS Frank Oz! or maybe you were just kidding.

  • @athull08 Ooops! Didn't realise that Oz did Bert's voice as well! Now I feel daft. Talented voice actor, that man.

  • The Librarian/Plumber version is now up on the video player.

  • I'm a cashier at a grocery store and whenever I ring up kale I think of this.

  • this song is pimp hahaha

  • In addition to other versions of this song, I'd also like to see "In My Neighborhood", which features a group of Anything Muppets in the city singing a rather funky song about the various occupations in the neighborhood.

  • OMG How did you meet him? Where were you?

  • A few versions I'd particularly like to see are the ones that introduce the librarian and the plumber, the postman and the fireman, and the garbageman and the barber.

  • @Garrettk41 I'd love to see those too, how about a remake with Marty Robinson as the Grocer and Eric Jacobson as the Doctor?

  • @muppetlover16 Is a remake really necessary?

Anyway, I'm getting fed up with waiting for the video player to add more versions of this great song.

  • Bob always creep me out just a little, but I've always liked this song.

  • a friend of mine met bob and said that he is very nice, very down to earth

  • I met him a few years ago at a Christmas sing-along, and he is one of the nicest men I've ever met. He actually didn't perform this song, though.

  • @RetroGirl85

While we are on the topic of people who we have met, I have met Jerry Mathers from "Leave it to Beaver". I have two autographed pictures of him. Both were obtained at events pertaining to psoriasis. Now my dream of dreams is to meet Helen Hunt! Wish me luck in that endevor!

  • @Smartboy8877 wow jerry mathers thats pretty cool. Most of the people ive met are 80s musicians, when I was heavily in the rock scene. ya never know, ya may meet helen hunt, anythings possible!! :)

  • @RetroGirl85

Thank you for that inspiring response!

  • @RetroGirl85 I envy your friend.

  • @RetroGirl85 I just met Bob back on December 5, 2009 at my county Barnes & Noble bookstore and yes, he is as personable in real life as he is on Sesame Street. Very kind and down to earth. Meeting Bob was quite the experience of a lifetime! :)

  • @RetroGirl85 I am insanely jealous.

  • @hyrulemusic Not to mention, the doctor has Bert's voice.

  • HAHA...i find myself humming this at times, even today lol

  • Big sale on kale! I loved that!

  • Oh, the big kale sale, I've heard about it!

  • Very nice.

  • My all-time favorite Sesame Street song. More versions, please!

  • muppets rule

  • It's so weird remembering this. :/ I'm happy Sesame Street keeps the classics. ^.^ <3

  • first guy: newscaster/ rowlf the dog voice

    2nd guy: Bert/ Fozzie's voice

  • Or, to put it bluntly, Jim Henson and Frank Oz.

  • What year is this?

  • the doctor's face is crooked... it's driving me crazy! lol

  • Wow, at this early date, the blue guy hasn't quite materialized into the familiar muppet I knew when I was a kid. And when I was watching Sesamee Street, Bob had mostly gray hair.

  • Yeah, shows how old this clip is...

  • Which familiar Muppet is that?

  • Based on what Ramin said, I'd have to say Mr. Johnson (aka Fat Blue).

  • True, though the the grocer never evolved into Mr. Johnson. They're just both Fat Blue Muppets.

  • Same here with Bob. When I first saw him, he had a lot of silver hair. I never realized how young he was until a few months ago!

  • Purfet!
