i might sound crazy but someone answer me : there's a sesame street about trying something for the first time. i don't remember much of the lyrics and i doubt 1/5 of the line would help, reply if you know the song :D
@78violetfantic not sure if it relates to that but there is an old joe raposo song "trying and trying" where the video is a tree frog climbing a tree! great old school video
When the teenagers loiter outside our house, we've got a corner home, I get on my piano and play this song , followed by I love trash, followed by C is for cookie, followed by rubber duckie. They scatter like roaches. Works every time. Misguided miscreants wouldn't know good music if it came up and bit them.
@valarierenee do u just play them on the piano, or do u sing them too??? i'd be surprised if it didn't bother other neighbors! LOL yeah teens nowadays like that crap like Katy Perry, Lady Gag Me, Taylor Swift and all this baloney! THAT is not music at all!!!
I rarely sing those songs when I play but I ALWAYS sing and tear up when I play "It's not easy being green" because it's such a beautiful melancholy song and I'm reminded of how much I miss Jim Henson (I never met him but I miss him just the same) & I always sing and laugh when I play Grover's "What Do I Do When I'm Alone" That melody is lovely too but I laugh because I'm reminded of my dirty brother riffing on the innuendo in that song as he got older. Dumb but funny
@valarierenee i would like to find the video for Grover's sketch where he sings "i am not afraid" i think of that whenever i think of old school sesame street! LOL
does anybody know what Bobs' surname is, please..??? I'd love to google him and learn more about this guy who was SO everpresent in my childhood years !!!!! (I always thought he was that piano playing guy, is it Neil Sedaka??, when I was in my early teens!!) lol
@mickwade1 On the show apparently it's Johnson, but his real name is Robert Emmet McGrath. On June 13 he (get this!) turned 79! I believe his wife's name is Ann and I have no idea about how many children and GRANDchildren he has. His last known address was Teaneck New Jersey. Don't forget to check out a YouTube clip for his 1966 appearance on "To Tell the Truth" - amazing stuff.
@nepomusik: But Mister Rogers guest-starred on the show in the 70's, just as Big Bird appeared in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe around the same time.
Lol it was a sarcastic comment. Yeah I'm aware that both Mister Rogers and Big Bird guest-starred in each other's shows. I just find it funny that you'd think Mister Rogers would be in a song about a neighborhood.
awsome!! Now..this is the Sesame Street that I grew up with...30 some years ago! Funny how you remember the songs from when you were like 4 years old!! I am 38 now! HA HA
I grew up watching in the 70's. I tried to watch Sesame Street with my grandaughter a few months ago when she was sick. It was just horrible! I bought her the "Old School, Vol. 1" dvd. My son says she refuses to watch the new shows now. It's Old School Sesame Street for her or nothing at all!
For some reason, knowing that your granddaughter prefers watching old school SS makes me happy to hear it. I grew up in the 80s too, but just the same nothing beats old school Sesame Street. Brings back good memories :)
Anyone else think the doctor looks like Rod from Avenue Q all he needs is to be blue and have hair how about a 1969 version of the people in your neighborhood with these jobs?
according to the wikipedia website frank did the voice of grover, bert, and cookie monster and that doesn't count the muppet show or yoda. To me when i think about besides my dad the 2 most influential people in my life i can think of are jim henson and frank oz.
When they did these People in Your Neighborhood skits I can't ever figure out why they NEVER mentioned people like prostitues, pimps, hitmen, bookies, or drug dealers that are in the neighborhood.
In addition to other versions of this song, I'd also like to see "In My Neighborhood", which features a group of Anything Muppets in the city singing a rather funky song about the various occupations in the neighborhood.
A few versions I'd particularly like to see are the ones that introduce the librarian and the plumber, the postman and the fireman, and the garbageman and the barber.
While we are on the topic of people who we have met, I have met Jerry Mathers from "Leave it to Beaver". I have two autographed pictures of him. Both were obtained at events pertaining to psoriasis. Now my dream of dreams is to meet Helen Hunt! Wish me luck in that endevor!
