It actually goes well with most retail jobs. We get the shitty side of people and are expected to put up with their shit for minimum wage. I'm also just a kid trying to pay for school, with a retail job I love but can't enjoy with those aspects present all the time.

However, I have to praise you for not only speaking your mind, but having the maturity to accept the consequences of such an action. I hope that the working world does not penalize you for it, but the fact is, customers of ALL KINDS need to understand that there is a certain level of etiquette that should be observed when dealing with a salesperson who is trying to do the best they can.

Trained by SBUX corporate and went to franchised store...got fired for "insubordination" because I called the partner hotline and turned them in for using moldy bananas in the vivannos, using Moxie Java coffee beans, using torani syrups and pouring them in SBUX bottles. Best job I got fired from and immediately went back to an independent store where I was appreciated. Fuck SBUX. Never again will I be a corporate whore.

The people I worked with were great, and the times I had there were even better. I agree that it's very hard/near impossible to have your side heard working at the bottom of the chain at Starbucks, even when there's others standing up for you. It's easier to just hire another kid than deal with the issue at hand.
I used to work at sears in footware. I had two women come in one day and ask for like eight pairs of shoes. I found them all and brought them out. I told them to let me know if they needed anything else and went to help my next customer and I hear one of the women say " I guess we have to put the shoes on ourself here"
I'll, never forget that. they don't even do that at Nordstrom.....

My thoughts on why people of the same ethnicity order similar drinks: People of the same ethnicity have similar taste sensitivity. Taste sensitivity depends on the number of taste buds in the tongue and is an inherited characteristic. It is relatable to the types of foods certain cultures eat. Latino and Asian populations tend to eat spicy food that some people of European decent could not handle. This is of course not true in all cases and is becoming less prevalent as cultures are blended.

@VictorianDarling I worked at Starbucks for 5 years and I'm saying this as a Mexican American myself, I'd point out to my coworkers that when a Mexican/Mexican American walked in, they would get Caramel Fraps. I was usually right 95 percent of the time. The other 5% was mocha, which is pronounced MO-KA... they would say - MO-CHA.
@VictorianDarling I work at a Starbucks and I'm not sure either. I work around several resturants and almost all of the spanish cooks come in around mid-shift (3 - 5PM) and get carmle frapps. The other day a new spanish cook started at P.F. Changs and he came into our store for the first time. Before he could get to the counter I said "Venti Carmle Frapp?" to which he replied "Si". So it's pretty consistent.
@wcwmsnm on all drip coffee, iced coffee, iced tea and hot tea if you have a gold card. if you have no gold card, refills on those drinks is $0.50+tax.
i worked at sbux for a year and couldnt see myself ever quitting but it was crappy customers that drove me out in the end. i was literally SCREAMED at for not counting exactly 3 ice cubes into a drink then the person demanded both a refund and the drink. sbux baristas have to deal with everything that was said in both this song and the other one and its horrible. i am a genuinely sweet person and i have never been treated with as little respect as i did as a sbux partner. thank you chris. :)
@saraaalorrri i completely agree. i have been working here for 9 months and i am handing in my two weeks tomorrow. it is only for my managers sake that i am giving any notice. at first i loved my job, but then the customers really got to me and the past 3 months have been hell.

I've been a loyal Starbucks customer for years and am always respectful of baristas. My day gets better when people like you smile when you take my order, remember my name and sometimes even banter. In turn, I smile and banter back, and make sure to make a detailed narrative of my positive experience in those feedback forms you have to make you look good to those in charge.

If you think Starbucks is bad, try to imagine working with drunks.....you've only scraped the surface of rude and stupid at a coffee shop. My thoughts on why people of the same ethnicity order similar drinks: People of the same ethnicity have similar taste sensitivity. Taste sensitivity depends on the number of taste buds in the tongue and is an inherited characteristic. It is relatable to the types of foods certain cultures eat. Latino and Asian populations tend to eat spicy food that some people of European decent could not handle. This is of course not true in all cases and is becoming less prevalent as cultures are blended.

@VictorianDarling I worked at Starbucks for 5 years and I'm saying this as a Mexican American myself, I'd point out to my coworkers that when a Mexican/Mexican American walked in, they would get Caramel Fraps. I was usually right 95 percent of the time. The other 5% was mocha, which is pronounced MO-KA... they would say - MO-CHA.

@VictorianDarling I work at a Starbucks and I'm not sure either. I work around several resturants and almost all of the spanish cooks come in around mid-shift (3 - 5PM) and get carmle frapps. The other day a new spanish cook started at P.F. Changs and he came into our store for the first time. Before he could get to the counter I said "Venti Carmle Frapp?" to which he replied "Si". So it's pretty consistent.

i worked at sbux for a year and couldnt see myself ever quitting but it was crappy customers that drove me out in the end. i was literally SCREAMED at for not counting exactly 3 ice cubes into a drink then the person demanded both a refund and the drink. sbux baristas have to deal with everything that was said in both this song and the other one and its horrible. i am a genuinely sweet person and i have never been treated with as little respect as i did as a sbux partner. thank you chris. :)

I think it's good that you're taking responsibility for what you did and being mature about it.
I've been a loyal Starbucks customer for years and am always respectful of baristas. My day gets better when people like you smile when you take my order, remember my name and sometimes even banter. In turn, I smile and banter back, and make sure to make a detailed narrative of my positive experience in those feedback forms you have to make you look good to those in charge.
