  • Shredding + precision + tone + originality + versatility + SOUL. Rare combo. The guy is amazing.

  • this guy is the LORD.

  • paul gilbert had fucking fantastic hair

  • 2:53 look, even the asians praise him

  • Paul the best guitarist of all time!

  • Stamina: infinite.

  • @PabloakaChuck360 Wise words. LOL 4:45 Stamina: 10293810823098129830

  • 2:30 it looks like someone is picking the strings from behind paul xaxaxa

  • fuck me his hands are like chair legs,, awesome

  • they just don't make guitarists like this anymore. its sad really

  • el mejor sin duda

  • This solo was on the Mr. Big Japanemonium: Raw Like Sushi III CD.

  • Como suena esa guitarra ctm!!!

  • Not the best of Gilbert solos. But, it's nice to see that he actually used his middle finger back in the day lol

  • @ModalGroove lmao what i was thinking

  • woof. I think Paul Gilbert rocks but this is not one of his better solos.

  • I damn love this sound on the guitar.

  • @Mindlabytinth Omfg right... I would kill for tone like that

  • He's a godly player, but I hate his tone.

  • I personally miss paul with his 90's long hair!!!!

  • fgdgfhfjhgkyukl

  • why can't I move my fingers like that?

    UNFAIR!

  • it makes jimi hendrix look like a baby \m/

  • yea yea .................................

  • 61 people prefer gilbert's other solos x)

  • @Rheckler3 I prefer some of his other solos. And I still liked this cause Paul is always a beast. Come at me.

  • Kind of a boring solo i think of Paul

  • My Hummer is great at copying other cars and being huge and really big. But... hes a fuel dump and nothing green =(

    WHY DID YOU BUY IT

  • He's great at copying other people's styles and and practising exercises really fast. But... he lacks originality and creating anything memorable.

  • @BarriosGroupie you think you're so good with your magoré

  • @Rheckler3 mangoré*

  • @Rheckler3 Barrios Mangore was brilliant technically like Paul Gilbert, but also had a creative brain that enabled him to create fantastic original pieces. The electric guitar also has it greats like Richie Blackmore, Yngwie, Joe Satriani, Vinne Moore etc who developed one style and built upon it. Gilbert on the other hand wanted to do everything and ended up lacking a unique style he could call his own.

  • @BarriosGroupie Horsecrap- Have you even listened to Silence Followed by a Deafening Roar (the entire CD)? Brilliant writing, brilliantly played. Paul is an amazing schooled soulful writer, amazing player, not to mention the best teacher. This video is far from being the best Paul Gilbert you can listen to. You need to listen to more before you make that judgement. PG rules.

  • @BarriosGroupie YOUR RIGHT, from the 25 sec. mark onward he has Randy Rhoads to thank cos thats straight out of the live suicide solution solo.

  • i would kill a man for that PGM100RE

  • Nice shoes! :D

  • This is not music but chicken scratch.

  • Not the best I've seen from this Great Master but brilliant all the same.

  • @dirtydonki nah, he's just workin the crowd. did it perfectly. the japanese cant get enough of hyper efficient, ultra repetitive, machine gun guitar playing! goes with their philosophy of Kaizen

  • I so hope im related to Paul..... we've got the same last name! :) lol

  • Ahh, yes. This is a beautiful thing we see here in front of us. Watching a set of strings die has never been so rewarding.

  • Uh, this is pretty amazing. The kids at the end of the video liked it too.

  • and the one word for the difference is soul

  • Yup, don't care if this goes over well or not. not trying to be apples v oranges but lets youtube some SRV right now then go back to this then tell me if there is a difference.. yes there is a difference..

  • @chi3knees yeah srv is an inferior player to paul. that went over fine

  • Hmm, maybe my speakers, maybe the recording, but to me his guitar sounds a bit clanky on that first part. That's just my opinion. I wonder if he's playing through two heads one on a clean and another through a distorted for that. The tone on the second part is great, right on. Excellent technique, no question about that, with the likes of John Petrucci.

  • paul gilbert is simply amazing. he can play blues, neoclassical, acoustic, classic, ballad songs, major, minor. he's mastering all technique!!

  • What isn't there to like about that. Gilbert just loves to play and we all love to listen. Awesome.

  • What is with the classroom at the end?

  • I love how he plays a guitar with a Floyd Rose nut with no locks on it XD

Paul must have had some kind of hellish nightmare of a tremolo coming after him at some point and he stopped using them on his guitars :)

  • this is my favorite video on youtube

  • His boots were as good as his solo, god how i want cowboy boots!!! They are the best footwear . . . .

  • The 59 people that disliked this, go jump off a fucking bridge.

  • @element5333 I know nothing of music theory, but I do have one thing, and the only thing, which is a prerequisite to loving Paul Gilbert's music: a soul.

  • i got the exact same guitar , sounds great until i broke the god damn machine head , my joint an guitar fell at the same time , and stupidly i chose to save my joint leaving my guitar . wrong choice!!

  • @underoath115 BUT YOUR JOINT COULD OF SURVIVED THE FALL!

  • @HeavyMetalUnicorn3 tell that to my sub-concious mind:D

  • @underoath115 this is why you smoke first then play. or in pauls case not at all

  • @dvpkid usually i light my joint , then take about 4 puffs and then start playing , then a break to light my joint and 2 puffs then continue , and so on:D

  • god damn the way he moves from string to string so flawlessly blows my weak ass mind every single time i hear him play. such talent

  • I was able to see Paul Gilbert at a live Seminar once, and god damn does he know his music theory like the back of his hand. Total props to him and his playing.

  • @element5333

Ahh ok ...you do know ALL MUSIC is dynamic right? Mr expert....

  • @Secondlifecreator

Added this , i like his skills, so not even putting that in question. Great vid and style, but your talking from a high chair perspective, that makes little sense. Specially you dynamics argument lol...

  • Why's that I think that it's just 5 minutes of shredding?

Of course, he can play with volume, speed, palm muting and all. But I just can't see a deep thought. Beat me if you want to, but for me he looks like technically mastering his hands at the early age and now showing his skills off without matching the point. I just watched his version of Satch Boogie, that was pretty bad.

Not saying I don't respect his skills, though.

  • @TheLordOfCoal I felt the same way first, but then I watched 'G3 jam always with me, always with you' which proved me wrong ;)

  • @TheLordOfCoal Clearly he knows a thing or two about music theory.... this is not mindless shredding. Besides, there are some slower spicy things he played that are not just scalar shredding

  • Paul Gilbert is far from a mindless shredder.. what idiot would even say something like that.. listen to his phrasing.. if you can't hear his killr rhythmic thing going on there you're lost.. Lots of charisma to his playing not to mention he's got the best technique in the business..

  • This is easily the best soloing I have ever heard from him.

  • Love his tone.

  • The audience was children?

  • from 1:00 to 2:45.. it's exactely the kind of music i love! it's catchy, it's very percussive, it's pure hard rock, taking bits from blues and bits from metal! I LOVE IT

  • proud to say i own that guitar !!

  • @zombo66 Lucky sod! hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @zombo66 I think you can be proud when you own PG's skills (or atleast 20% of it) and not the guitar.. LOL

  • @jimmyleppard6 I think his point was to say that he is proud to own a guitar that represents paul gilbert and the association of Paul to his instrument makes him happy to play. nothing to do with skills, please go troll somewhere else.

  • @blackfish96 thanx , exactly my point.

  • @zombo66 bought one for my son today! not many of them around!!

  • @caprifisher only 300 worldwide. hold on to it !!

  • awesome somewhat repetitve but hell i could never do that

  • FUCK!!!! :)

  • a nice mix of metal and blues! go paul!

  • someone needs to cut off his fingers this is too much

  • Am i the only one who thinks that solo sucked? I mean, i can't play that xD, but it sounds really bad, at least to me :S

  • @MEGADETHEVA That's because you don't know what good is bro. Your used to listening to shit obviously, that's why something good sounds bad to you. Your problem solved

    Have a day

    : )

  • @blackblurable Look dude, i don't want to fight, I'm a really fan of Paul Gilbert, i only said that the solo sucked because it sucked to me. Oh and, i don't have any problem, so please, don't say "problem solved"... and fuck you.

  • @MEGADETHEVA If you don't want to fight, why did you say fuck you? You jerk, you hurt my feelings. I was only trying to help : )

  • @blackblurable Ok, i'm sorry for saying that, i will try to don't say that again.

  • @blackblurable And the music I listen is not shit.

  • Worst tone of all time in my opinion.

  • @vithaj92 Haha, in my experience people either love his tone or hate it. You have to admit though, only a guy like Paul could pull off those speedy licks cleanly with a tone like that...it would be SO easy to spot any sort of mistake with the tone he uses lol.

  • @VioletFox19 That is indeed true, he doesnt do any mistakes at all.

  • @vithaj92 I definitely prefer the Racer X tone. Whatever producer recommended he change his tone for Mr. Big should be clubbed to death.

  • @dorielementary Agreed. I think it was because of the two Super Distortion pickups in his guitar that made Racer X sound cool. Maybe he switched pickups for Mr. Big. I don't think it was the Tone Zone but I could be wrong.

  • he has a great knowledge of scales and the art of music. screw you if you dont understand scales that he does, its too deep for u anyway =D

  • You can see his pinky from space!

  • amazing player

  • @element5333 Absolutely- 'mindless shredder' thats a contradiction in itself, you cant be mindless and be a shredder at the same time, it takes to much knowledge and concentration.

  • how is he so tall?!?!?! and those fingers, god damn

  • LUAR BIASA,,,,,

  • My nipples got hard and I'm a dude.

  • @joshgaus wanna have gay sex?

  • His picking 'dynamics' at 35-59 secs are just seriously sick!!!

  • That guitar has been modified to death.. and it only makes it cooler.

  • biiiiiiiiiiiig deal....he's fast...he doesnt play the guitar with the amount of feeling that someone like slash does...he's fast...full stop...it was awesome for about 3 seconds and then i was like .."meh..this dudes fast"...

  • @MrMichelinho74 Thumbs up if you agree that this MrMichelinho74 is retarded for thinking that Paul Gilbert doesn't play with feeling...seriously wtf is wrong with you?

  • @SomeDude0nline lol...you spaz

  • @MrMichelinho74: Tell me, how shitty at guitar are you?

  • @TheCrimsonIdol98...dickhead...dont get me wrong...i wish i was as FAST and as talented as this guy...i just think he's awesome at being FAST!!! he doesnt strike me as a soulful...sorry...just calling it how i see it...btw, i am pretty shitty at guitar...it doesnt come naturally to me and i struggle...im almost as bad at it as you are at the piano...almost...you might get better if you learn something OTHER than video game soundtracks too..just a tip

  • @MrMichelinho74 este comentário só podia vir de um brasileiro, puta que pariu

  • @wornelasable english motherfucker! do you speak it?

  • @wornelasable here's one for you...e quanto a você chupar minhas bolas

  • everyone sing..."I'm the one who waaaaants to be UberGay"...lol

  • @MrMichelinho74 I hope you're not referring to Mr. Gilbert...

  • @MrMichelinho74 Who's Slash?

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 lol...you fucking spoon...

  • @MrMichelinho74 I have never been called a spoon before, you fucking fork

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 well congrats...cos you're a fucking spoon

  • @MrMichelinho74 no sir you're a fork congrats to you

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 lol...love stirring you cunts up...he's fast...end of story

  • @MrMichelinho74 You haven't stirred me up, and as far as being a "cunt" as you so put it, I'm not a vagina, he is fast, but when a musician starts playing 16th notes he doesn't automatically become souless, but I'll tell Paul to start playing slow bends, 6 minute long guitar solos of the same repetitive pentatonic licks, and to use wah, and other such effects, because who actually likes the sound of just a guitar through an amp right? BORING, so I'll tell him to play slower so you can keep up.

  • @MrMichelinho74 HA is it too fast for you? Your brain can't keep up? Well i'll tell you what, go and litsen to Hendrix and leave the real musicians in peace.

  • @1bol1 lol...you fucking idiot

  • @MrMichelinho74 so you say...

  • @1bol1 Are you implying Hendrix wasn't a "real" musician?

  • @djangido fanboy alert, disengage at once

  • @tgolba90 What's that supposed to mean?

  • @UnknownSect333 a reply to a fanboy, perhaps?

  • this is so amazing than slash and steve vai..SUPERB

  • he looks so much like Tito Kotipelto in this vid.. the singer from Stratovarius.

  • and thats why it is called amazing

  • he is d best nd d perfectionist !! yeahh !!!

  • what the hell is with the 58 dislikes?

thanks man, i want to do some MR BIG next!

  • @tapPOOH Curse of the castle dragon!?

  • .....wow....57 closet homosexuals have watched this video.....

  • @str8bttr Why do they have to be homosexual to not like this? you do know there are many great rock/metal musicians that were homosexual right?

  • bravoooooo

  • this is AMAAIZINNNG lol.

  • this is AMAAIZINNNG lol

  • paul is one of the best guituarists in rhe world th eonly one that comes very close to him is yngiwe malsteen ;)

  • @xbeastingx

    lol

  • @xbeastingx No, he doesn't come anywhere close to him. You obviously don't understand that Paul Gilbert is amazing at what he does but that doesn't make him the best. He's probably the best at what he does. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Zakk Wylde, and BB King are great guitarists as well.

  • his hair is awesome :P

  • woohoo!

  • Gotta love those DiMarzios!

  • smoooooooooooooke on the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaater

  • The chicky tone he got with the volume rolled back was AMAZING!!!!!

  • 0:45

i didnt know that a guitar can play sounds like that

  • Fantastic....!!!!!!!

  • Paul's shred powers were so much that he turned the audience into kids..

  • @MetalzShredah550 haha yea i was wondering how that happened..

  • f u c k the person who posts this video. This is the worst solo he had had

  • he's feet does the metronome....

  • Buckethead or not?

  • @redcarr2000

    Not.

  • Wish I had me a PGM

  • 3:05 THIS is what you all came here for.

  • 0:39 just letting out some gas

  • tendre que usar lento creo que no vi los dedos de su mano izquierda

  • pick ups are awesome! what is he using back then?

  • @back2backband1 Paul was using Dimarzio PAF Pro pickups in the neck and bridge positions during that time period in the late 80's and early 90's.

  • wonderfull

  • He got the worst sound of all shredders in my opinion

  • @vithaj92

Yeah it's painfully sharp and pale sounding. Mother fucker can play tho.

  • Of all the shredmaestros, Paul is imo by far one of the most precise if not the most. Sloppy fretwork, bad timing, overzealous picking - these are all things that do not exist in Paul Gilbert -world. And while having total technical mastery, his playing has that elusive 'wow, I'm playing the guitar, this is really COOL' -quality (if that makes sense). I've seen him live a few times and he always seems to enjoy himself while on stage - and that's the sign of true talent.

  • all he do is alternate picking and string skipping.....his songs r like guitar tutorial lessons!

  • anybody knows what strings is he using?

  • @ejemplo654321 Steel ones :D, no Ernie Ball 2240 AKA Ernie Ball Slinky Regular 10-46.
