  • @GNRjeff My experience as well.

  • The Mesa get great rock tones aswell... use the little mode switch :)

Hey I hear some Lynchness in there! Nice playing!

  • is this amp good for metal like metallica, slayer and stuff??

  • @metallica66670 no, I own it (great amp!) and this is more for rock. For metal choose a Mesa Dual Rectifier, it's better for the sound you want.

  • To the guy who made the video, being a nazi about what people can and can't do in their comments, is really not cool. I'm sure you'll probably just delete this, but I think it's important that you know that your coming off very controlling. No one likes that. Not everyone is good at spelling, that does not mean that they don't have something good to say. And swearing as you called it, is just a descriptive word, for example: "this amp is fucking awesome, this will be next amp!". Thanks.

  • Here's a comment I got in an other video. food for thought.

"regarding spelling and grammar. Hey folks think about it! Is it acceptable to play the wrong notes (spelling) - or play the chord progression out of order (grammar) and then expect your listener to "know what you meant"? Music is language (a universal one, actually). Shouldn’t we be as careful in our spoken and written language as our musical language? I have this amp - it is beyond my needs and I will be selling it shortly."

  • Also, words about bodily functions shouldn't be associated with music. Also, it's not just the English world on Youtube. I want people to be able to understand comments even if they don't speak English. If people are lazy in their spelling, a translation tool will not work and half the audience will not be able to participate in the discussion therefore, for commenting there is a rule for spelling, grammar and politeness so that EVERYONE can participate. If you don't want to, that's YOUR choice.

  • @joeb0 Right on!

  • How much would this cost? I own a Line 6 Spider III 15 and a Squier BulletStrat. And I'm looking to upgrade everything. I'm getting a Gibson Les Paul and thinking of a Marshall amp. Is this good or is there better? And I'm looking to spend no more than $1500

  • @codismyBxTCH this and a 1960, both used, will be less than 1500

  • This guy is a great guitar player,so much styles and he play them very good

  • I wonder if he is using any pedals with this amp? I have the dsl 100, 1960b cabinet and I cannot get the tone he is getting on lead 1 settings, sounds to me like he is getting quite a bit of distortion or a boost on those settings.

  • Around 5:30-ish I could of swore he was about to play part of the Trigun Theme H.T. I would loved to see that in a review of an amp or guitar or whatever.

  • Informative, I guess... I already own this wonderful amp, but the problem I am having with this presentation, is that I am up to 3:49, and this dude, who apparently works for the company, has repeated the same thing at least twice so far. I'm going to continue to watch from that point now, and I'll bet my '72 Strat that he says the same shit all over again, at least one mo time. Lets hope the fucker can play, huh?

  • @joeb0 would this amp be good for stuff like Avenged Sevenfold or Pantera?

  • what Marshall amp can compare or be similar to the silver jubilee?

  • I'll Stick with a Plexi. Way too much going on.

  • question....if anyone knows....How would this amp sound with a boss gt-8 multi effects processor??????

  • @johnmyth1 marshalls are known for its pedal friendly sound...it will sound good in most pedal and also multi effects,.espclly the gt line...

  • what if you cant spell right???

  • CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? WHY DOES MY DSL 50 SOUND SO MUDDY DIGITAL ON THE LEAD CHANNELS ?!?! IT SOUNDS TERRIBLE PLEASE HEALP ME GUYS!

  • @JoshGoldie Try some new preamp tubes. Should run you $15-20 each, try the replacing the first tube at least. It worked for me.

  • @JoshGoldie 1. try raising up the volume

2.find the balance between gain and master volume which produces the best sound and then change the EQ

3.tube screamers are great for improving lead sounds

4.maybe the amp doesn't function properly (search troubleshooting)

5.try playing with your guitar volume

i don't own one but based on my expirience those might help

    best of luck

  • This head is amazing! I should have bought it last year =/ Gonna have to wait a year to buy it! Holy shit, amazing sound! Gonna be awesome!

  • How much is all this? Minus the guitar haha

  • I'm gonna buy a new amp next week and I really don't know what to. I am using the Digitech RP255 unit and my guitar - an Ibanez RG321MH. I wanna get a new amp for college where I will get into a serious band. Currently I own the Fender G-DEC Junior which is only 15 W. I was told to get a solidstate with a good clean, as I dont need effects on it.What whould I get ? Around 30-50 W and 200-300$ ? I've set my eyes on the Kustom HV30 and Kustom Quad65DFX.Or maybe a Hartke GT60c? I need for metal.

  • @Sk8er667 try a roland cube 30X, it has a very good sound and the metal channel is very good for different types of metal, it only matters which type of metal you play because for goth metal or power metal it isn't thick enough

  • @Sk8er667 Go to a forum man, this is a terrible place to ask that question.

  • How much is this head?

  • Fantasitc

  • 9:09 If I did not know, that this is an electric guitar, I would have thought, it´s a bass. Unbelievable!

  • great playing dude!

  • Hello,

May I say that I really enjoyed your demo. I am looking at a Marshall DSL-100 Silver Edition half-stack. New old stock in the box, is this, ostensibly, the same amp? Can you tell me what kind of speakers are installed in the cab I am considering? Thank you very much for your time and consideration of my request.

  • Difference between the MG and JCM2002000 I would say the MG is stiffer in response and the JCM is more compressed and rounded off

  • Does anyone know if the mg412a cab work with this head?

  • @ady0211 depends if the ohms match up. i have a mg412a cab too but with a mg100 head which sucks... i wish i had a tube head because that is the sound i want from heavy metal. i have a metalzone but it isn't heavy at all... it sucks ass

  • Nice slap-bass riffs at the end :D

  • I have one of these for sale if anyone is interested. emissarygtrist@gmail.com $875 + shipping

  • is this amp better than TSL 100 for hard rock music or metal???

  • im getting this for christmas XD :D =D :) :O :P :}

  • @JoshGoldie did u get it how is it?

  • - 1,000,000 reviews

    - 20 riffs

  • i heard the heartbreaker solo in there!

  • what kind of pedals are you using in this video?

  • i got this amp today, i let it warm up and then i played through it. the clean channel sounded perfectly ok. but when i went to the crunch channel and turned up the gain it sounded terrible. and same with lead 1 and two it sounded like a cheap crappy solid state practice amp. it was not brand new but all the tubes had been replaced a year earlier. any ideas on how to fix this. i am using a relatively good quality cable so i dont know what is wrong. please help

  • @dan6896

What cab do you use? I.E. the speakers in the cab

  • @dan6896 Was the amp re-biased when the new valves were fitted ?

  • @dan6896 lot depends on your speakers i always try different speakers or celestions i crank mine and love the gain

  • This amp sounds pretty damn good an organic. I don't really care for the switches for lows and mid cuts but the main overdrive sounds like it could get pretty crispy.

  • this is a JCM 2000 right? then why does it say Marshall DSL 100 amp on top???

  • @satjathamma : The DSL and the TSL are both part of the JCM 2000 series.

  • the DSL100 a the specific product in the JCM 2000 line of products

  • @satjathamma mine says jms on the left

  • i got one and love it !!!!!

  • i blew this amp today, while on clean and volume 4

  • you can't compare a Plexi to a JCM 800/900, maybe compare a Plexi to a non master volume JMP, but they all have their differences.

  • Here in the UK where Marshall's are made and aren't subject to import tax, they've become very expensive over the last few years. For a little bit extra, I'd rather buy the ENGL Ritchie Blackmore. It's much better quality, way better tone and allows you to footswitch select ALL 4 modes. The DSL only allows switchig between the 2 channels. Also, Marshall's still need to make up ground in terms of quality control.

  • I have this amp and I love it to death. I bought it used and from the start I fell in love with it. But why when I turn my clean up so it's louder it really starts to break up. And I don't mean a good break up... It's sounds terrible. The clean channel is also very quiet. I think it might need to be biased and a tube replacement.. Would that make sense?

  • I really like this amp!! Anybody know of a combo setup with this style?

  • @whiterice003 Probably a DSL401.

  • You need the mids on this amp to make it sound massive and that's for like any amp, but this amp especially ;)

  • anybody know the price of one of those things??

  • @maiden06660 They used to be $1,300 USD on Musicians Friend but now they don't sell them on there anymore. At my local store it's about $2,500 CDN which is around $2,300 USD. D: So if you look around you can probably find them for a much better price. Or, better yet why not get the DSL50? Same great tone, just slightl quieter so you can get the cranked tube sound at lower volumes and a lower price.

  • Why does everybody like marshalls. You can get Mesa, Bogner, Line 6, Krank etc.

A friend of mine has an Engl Powerball and it's insane.

Marshall's sound like crap to me...0o, Tell me am i missing something....?

  • i also just noticed he said that amp uses 12ax7 tubes, the pre amp tubes in mine are ecc83... is that bad?

  • I had a DSL 100 and I loved mine , I've owned more expensive amps and I could use this any day of the week . Great gain sound and decent reverb . I now use a single channel 1985 JCM 800 50 watt which I like a little better but def not as flexible .

  • I wouldn't part with my '83 JCM 800. This is a cool amp, but no way compares to the simplicity of older Marshalls.

  • I played one in a local shop tonight. SOMETHING was wrong, even having the gain knob cranked it sounded like it had nothing. it was running through a Kustom cab, i'm gunna blame the cab, unless that particular amp was a lemon or had a problem.

The one in this video sounded monstrous! Hopefully i'll get a chance to play a good one.

  • @Egamer50 Could have been old tubes. I bought one from a shop that was a total piece of work. New filter caps, new tubes, sounds a thousand times better.

  • This amp does come with a foot pedal, but the pedal only has 2 channels. This is kind of pain because when I play in the crunch mode, I have to click the clean button on the head in order to switch. I use a TS-9 tube screamer and it screams with feedback haha. A noise suppressor is needed if one enjoys playing with high gain.

  • buy the jcm 800 or the 1987XL

  • @joakoPRIMUS : I'd definitely recommend the JCM 800. I have a JCM 800 100w Lead Series combo amp, and I love it. I have other Marshall set-ups, Peavey Classic 50, '73 Fender Dual Showman Reverb, and a few more. I guarantee you will never be sorry about buying the JCM 800.

  • me pueden decir q precio tiene un marshall de 50w

  • Anyone knows if the DSL50 has the same sound???

  • @BrasilGuitar Yes it does. Although it'll break up a lot earlier and will be a bit more neighbour friendly. Marshalls have to be turned up to get the most out of them.

  • Is there a footpedal that comes with the amp?

  • Do you need some kind of a noise supressor with this amp ?Does it produce any hums when you have the gain on too high?

  • does this tube head have overheating problems like the DSL401 does?

  • What is the differences between hooking up the speakers at 16 ohm, or 4 or 8 ohm? I've been hooking it up 16, but I didn't know if there would be a difference in sound? I've got the exact same setup as you're using here. Thanks.

  • I love how he says "Lets take a listen" and doesn't even start playing for another minute and a half to talk some more about the amp.

  • surprised theres no feed back thats..... bull/............. probably has a noise gate on though

  • when i turn mine up to about 5 its a perfect sound. pure bliss with my les paul. sometimes i even throw a big muff in on the classic gain channel for some really creamy sound

  • Dose it have a Footswitch?

  • how much is it ?

  • What? Plexi over-the-top louder-than-life crunch?

  • hey is this DSL model a tube amp or solid state? also, does it come with the cabinet?

  • @ChanielDang All tube. Doesn't come with the cab.

  • I actually very much appreciate the explanation of the amp. So many ppl just start shredding without explaining how it works. :)

  • i just got a dsl 50 what a great amp!

  • what's the song from 5:42?? and also from 6:48?? and alsoo the bluees from 8:08??

  • @EdgarMartos 5:42 sweet home alabama 8:08 pride and joy stevie ray vaughan

  • @EdgarMartos I know the tune from 6:48 is Van Halen- Feel Your love tonight.

  • @EdgarMartos Oh and the one from 8:08 Is Stevie Ray vaughn- Pride and Joy.

  • Would anyone trade a JCM 800 2203 Re-issue for this amp? I like the 800 but this seems to be more versatile (not that its always better)???

  • Ny JCM 800 doesn't sound that heavy I'll tell u that. Even when I crank it, its more crisp and defined and a little less saturated.

  • he plays a kind like old paul gilbert style

  • Why is it that when i bought this amp, it sounded pretty solid state and everything? sounded like shit basicly, now i couldnt turn the volume past 4 without it actually destroying somthing in my room that was glass, but it should have still gave me a tube sound... right?

  • Yes, sometimes it's the cord between the Guitar and the Amp or sometimes the nut on the guitar for the patch cord has to be tightened. Fiddle with it, it sounds great.

  • @joeb0 How long have u been playing? U got some chops

  • @theShowStopper321 This isn't me, I use to play the guitar on and off but I now play the violin. Once I finish learning "He is a pirate" i'll put up a video of it.

  • @joeb0 I must add, a tube amp has to BE cRANKED to sound good usually. The higher the coltage going throught he tubes, the more the sound will beak up and give you that all tube sound.

  • @joeb0 Hey bro i was just wondering which RG you're using there in the video and if it's stock? I'm really looking for that one. I like the 1421 and 1451's (really any RG without a floyd). Great tones and vid man. Love your playing.

  • @diesect33 I'm not rob. I'm going to post a video of me playing the violin later on though.

  • @joeb0 okay. the guy playing's Rob i presume? Cool man, if it's a string instrument i'm interested in hearing it:) i've got some through the link on my you toob as well, tracks anyway. I can't get them to upload and i don't have videos as of yet.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer Marshalls need to be cranked past 4 to hit their sweet spot. I own a DSL50 and it's the best amp I've ever used. You could invest in an attenuator to allow you to crank the valves without being served an eviction notice.

  • @Slashfan90210 cranked it it 10 can't hurt either :)

  • @Slashfan90210 or could just get a marshall TSL 100 and turn it to the 25 watt mode.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer Sounds like you bought it without spending any time with it in the store. I have one of these and I adore it. But any equipment you use, be it the guitar, the amp, pedals, ANYTHING, should speak to you on a personal level right from the get go. The amp may just not be right for you. Sure you can fiddle with it and get a good sound out of it. But a guitarist should know as soon as he plugs in if it's right for him. Just a mental connection we all get when we try new stuff.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer musicality and playning technique to make the guitar scream or sing or whatever is key. Secondly tube amps only sound good when played loud. If you wanna play at bedroom level at home do yourselve a favour and buy either a modeling amp or a 1w tube amp (e.g. Blackheart Killer Ant). For rehearsals or gigs take the Marshall...

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer the solid state sound is probably due to your cab. I have the TSL and I get a little of that sound because atm i'm using the mc412 cab. if you have a cheaper cab, get better speakers and you'll be amazed. my amp sounds AMAZING through my friend's cab.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer This amp does not properly compress at lower volumes, even with the deep switch engaged it will not respond properly until it is turned WAY up. Try a 50 watt, compresses earlier. There are really very few places a person could play with a properly pushed 100 watt even with a master volume, it just doesn't respond with the low end, compression, sustain you get when you crank it.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer All high gain amp heads are designed to throw sound when they are cranked...This is how they sound the best...This was the intention of every amp company when they make 100 watt heads.

Buying any 100 watt or greater tube amp head is pointless if your planning to use it in your home or in your bedroom...I own one and use a powerbrake and it still sounds tinty unless I stand more than 10 feet away from it playing, 100 watts N/G unless cranked.

  • @XzaccYXguitarXplayer Seriously, you buy a 100-watt head with a 4x12 cabinet and expect to turn the volume past 4 in your living room? Maybe you should buy something less powerful and more in tandem with the music style you want to play.

  • ibanez and marshall , oh yeah!!

  • this amp can do all tones great vintage tones and great metal tones. check out my channel for tons of live clips of all genre's of music

  • Can you get a nice crunch sound from the 'Classic Gain' channel? Or is it just a clean channel? Because i wana use the 'Ultra Gain' channel to boost the sound

  • anyone knows wat Equalisation is he on?? please message me. I just got the JCM2000 but i dont know how to twuck it up...thank you.

  • is this good for metal. and if not what is an affordable head for metal

  • this is one of the best amps you can get for metal in my opinion. : )

  • at derekbells, It is if you like british voiced amps, if you want a more american sounding amp a cheap alternative would be the peavey 5150/6505 series. Awesome amps, look into those.

  • @derekbells try a Line 6 HD147 =)

  • @derekbells this isn't exactly "affordable" bro...

  • Is there any benefit to the 100 watt version vs the 50 watt version. I am looking to eliminate a full rack system and go back to just a great head. Also how does the amp respond to pedals either in front or thru the effects loop?

  • does this give the same tones as the dsl50 or is there a difference? also does anyone know if you can play it through a mg412 cab?

  • @theboywhocantollie: Dunno with the cab, that dependes on the resistance, and which resistance the amp is set to.

About the wattage: They should be the same preamp, but with 50 watts instead of 100 watt, you get an earlier breakup from the powertubes. Great for vintage overdrive at lower volumes compared to the 100 watt, but with the 100 watt you'll get a larger clean headroom than a 50 watt. I'd go with the 50 w though, but I'm not so picky about cleans though..

  • not always just the amp, its the great riffs also that sound good, you need both dont get me wrong amp sound great, but a lot of guitarists think more good amps more pedals great sound not always.. :D

  • how good can this item deliver his tone???

it uses 16 or 8 ohms generic

  • Hello, wanted to ask, if anyone knows, i've never used like a stack before, i've always had combo's. But can this head plug into any cab or do you need a specific one?? Thanks

  • don't talk - play ... man 4 minutes wating^^

  • read the description please.

  • Dude... it's a review. Great job Joeb0.

  • 316, hot for teacher?

  • wich cab do you use? thanks

  • I don't know which one he's using but it does sound like the one that dcooper830 uses.

  • @HeikoEwald is a 1960 A cab.

  • Good amplifier & cab. I own a JCM2000 Dual Super Lead 100 watt & Marshall half stack that I'm going to try to sell soon. It's in really pristine condition. I bought them both brand new at Guitar Center in the mid 90s. Sounds excellent but I haven't played in years & it's just an eyesore in my living room.

  • Are you sure it isn't a JCM900? The JCM2000 wasn't released until 1999.

  • @p4horror I might be interested. Im trying to move my JCM 800 to get either this or the Vintage Modern

  • I want one of these half stacks so much. Good thing they have the stack version where I get lessons :P

  • @thejakeludwig the jm200 is part of the dsl series

  • who is this guy? He rocks! I want to buy amp and i'm looking for a big fat distortion like metallica's black album... should I buy this amp?

  • I believe they used Mesa's to record that album. For the money you would save by not buying a Mesa you could have this amp and a nice metal pedal thru the clean channel of this amp and still have the versatility to do other types of tones.

  • @MarcAndreOlivier no. for metallica you will need a higher gain. via randall, mesa, or diezel.

  • @MarcAndreOlivier ABSOLUTLEY! I just bought one on ebay. Best amp I ever had!

  • Thats a JCM 2000, not a DSL 100.... Whats the differance? I'm thinking about buying an amp like this if not identical and I'm not sure what kind of JCM 2000 it is.... Can someone please help me?

  • The JCM 2000 is a series which include the DSL 100 as well as the 50 watt DSL 50.There are others too like the TSL 100...the differences being "D" is dual channel (2) in 50 or 100 watt and the "T" being a 3 channel 100 watt also available in 60 watts (TSL60).There are combos of these models as well.Lots of clips here on youtube of demos but hard to tell with some of the low quality recordings what is what so listen carefully to a bunch.Good luck.

  • This demo is probably one of the better sounding videos of this amp but keep in mind his volume is up to 3 or better which is exceptionally loud in person. This is really where these amps start to shine so if you can't use this kind of volume you may be disappointed with this amp.

  • A DSL 100 is part of the JCM 2000 family i think there's like 8 different JCM 2000 amps.

  • @thejakeludwig

    It is a JCM2000 DSL100...

    There are a few different JCM2000 amp's

The DSL100 is the 100 watt version of the JCM2000

  • So, can anyone tell me from experience? Is this the Marshall that can "do it all"? There are so many models, I get confused. What he describes: a plexi or JCM 800 sound with more gain, is what I want. But since Marshall now seems to have a billion different models, I get lost.

  • @vikingcookie Hey - I've owned just about every kind of Marshall - vintage plexi, JCM 800, JTM, JCM 900. The Plexi 100's and 50's are great sounding amps, but are crazy loud, and almost useless for everyday use, or gigging. Unless you play in large venues. Even then, to make them work for a variety of sounds, you need a very good pedal board. Same with the JCM-800. This DSL 2000 will cover all the ground. I would recommend the 50 watt version - plenty loud and less tubes to worry about. Cheers!

  • Very nice head. The 4 different sections are nice to have while still maintaining a classic look with only 1 row of knobs. That I like. I pair mine with a Vintage Moden.

  • 5:03 Van Halen? nice

  • im proud to say i just bought one! :) this video helped me make the decision thanks very much!

  • love the demo he did at 5:00-5:04 and how he said he did it...

im a HUGE fan of van halen and he did in that 4 seconds "316" and the verse in "hot for teacher" im sold....

By the way. what would be good replacement tubes for this amp besides the stocks.... ive never owned a tube amp and this will be my first.

  • @justin0185 el34 is the BEST tube you can get, especially for a marshall, so if i were you i would get some groove tubes for this one

  • @justin0185 Fun to try 6550's in the power stage. I like the harder edged sound in my JCM-800. Haven't tried them in the DSL yet, but plan to. I buy all my tubes through "Deep Surplus". Best prices, lots of choices. I've had good luck with the Russian tubes Tung Sol, Svetlana in the 6550's and Mullard in the EL-34's....

  • "Laziness in spelling will not be tolerated." Being spoken to like a school teacher won't either. I'll watch videos elsewhere... Poor.

  • IM NOT EVEN JOKING, this is the best amp ive ever heard!

  • whats better this or the vintage modern???

  • this

  • @7bu465b4u both great amps mate, cant go wrong with either, although i would have the vintage modern

  • wow, nice demo, and nice playing

  • 100 watt? that's it? My fender deluxe 900 is quite a bit smaller and it's 90 watt....I guess I never really play full volume anyways, but still.

  • wattage doesnt mean anything, ive played a 50 watt marshall dsl that was far louder than a fender twin reverb and a peavey classic 50

  • Thanks for this demo Joe..very interested in this amp!

  • You're welcome. :-)

  • @joeb0 dude i want modern high gain thats brutal and i want that modern gain that my favr band use like judas there tione is brutal way more and babbath or h7h i was thinkin of jcm90 or 800 b ut i think u said this is a high gain amp than the 80-900 and cost way less than 80-900 right

  • so buy a noise suppressor (boss Ns-2) and a electro harmonix metal muff with top boost and have a little gain on one of the lead channels and hit the metal muff with that channel....then have the other lead channel just regular what you want. trust me i own both the pedals and the metal muff with top boost will be the only distortion pedal youll need. and if you want a cleaner / softer overdrive i recommend either boss blues driver or the super overdrive.

    hope it helps

  • Will this sound nice with a Marshall 1960a cabinet for distortion? thanks

  • I believe that's what this demo is on.

  • Sorry, I meant the MC 412 cabinet

  • Hey check out my cool videos! and share them with friends!

  • I have this amp... I love it!

  • could some one tell me what head i should gett the dsl 100 or the tsl 100 i like playing fairly heavy rock.

  • Play them both at a store and see which one you like better. The amps are nothing alike really... Personally I love the DSL and hate the TSL. But that's my opinion. The TSL likes to break down though...

  • lynch mob stuff - rob math is the best riffer / demoer out there. I kinda have no idea why he's working for marshall... but so he is.

  • would this amp be any good for a loud metal band? Help please :)
