@GamesOf2Halves Because before Ronson released this he sent it to Morrissey and Marr and they both approved of it to be released, and Morrissey has said in an interview before that he likes the version....
Hey .. to all those discerning people giving this the big thumbs up.. you might also enjoy William Shatner "paying homage" to the Beatles' in his cover version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Check out his fresh new take on it!
Cover versions are ok, IF they are well done. Unfortunately... this twat needs putting out of his misery with a bullet in the back of his head. Terrible.
I'm sure some people have trouble holding on to the past. And some people have trouble with aforementioned people. Just agree to disagree. Some people prefer using ovens, others microwaves. Some Bugati Veyron (very fast and expensive car), others 53 Chevys... Give me the latter of both! I want the hot shit! This version is more exciting, and COOLER than the original! But, at the same time, I HATE jackers! So... I'm going to like the NEXT version of this song. No matter who makes it...
Everybody talkin about wich one was better da original or dis one but nobody even knows who originally did da song nd i can tell by da comments, get yall history together first "hypsters"
I like that Mark Ronson covered this song. It matches his style and he did it well. Although the Smiths are my fav, i can always appreciate a good cover.
I heard this version of the song first, last year, even though I've been a fan of the Smiths since I was 6, and I fell in love with it. Now that I've actually heard them both, I like the Smiths version better, but I still really like this version =)
Anybody hear this remixed by Groove Armada? If anyone should win the "best version of Stop Me" contest it´s them (IMHO indeed). Btw there are many other similarly fantastic songs in the mix - it was the Lovebox Weekender I believe.
The song was originally Inspired by Diana Ross and the Supreme's 1966 "You keep me hanging on" which, was later done as a psychedelic rock cover in 1967 by Vanilla Fudge, Which was then redone by Kim Wilde In 1987 and remade by a group Named "The Smiths" also in 1987. Reba did a cover of the original in 1996 and then Mark Ronson did a cover of the Remake done by The Smiths! Things are constantly redone through out time, artist draw inspiration from others, at least the original was credited...
@BorlandRIP7 Your Right this song particularity was a mix of The Supremes "You keep me Hanging on" and the Smiths "Stop Me if you think that you Heard this one before. Ronson combined them" The rest however are remakes of The Supremes. I heard the hook at the end of this song from the Supremes and assumed that this was also redone by The Smiths However it isn't The Smiths original song doesn't have that, Supreme hook "you keep me hanging on" Ronson just combined the hook and sound.
I am a huge Smiths fan- the original is wonderful and one of my favourite Smith's song. But this isn't even comparable to the Smiths; it's totally different- it even falls under a totally different genre. I like this just as much as I like the original, it's different, fun, upbeat, whilst the original is typical Smiths that I love. I don't even think of the original when listening to this, and Daniel Merriweather's voice is perfect for this. Mark Ronson has had such a good take on this.
anyone alive in the 80s knows that Ronson is a fuckin talentless little wanker who thinks he is the saving grace of modern music because he tries and fails to regurgitate the magic of that decade when in fact everything he does totally fits in with the empty crass drivel of today's music scene . if you agree say "I"
@Norm1011616 That's a hilarious impression of an insufferable wank doomed to serve out the rest of his days living in his mothers basement, miserable and alone. Good one, guy.
All these hate comments. I'm always happy when another artist pays homage to another's original work by taking on their own version. As always, nothing is better than the original of course when it comes to art and music.
However, some people fail to realize its a cover and its not stealing nor trying to make the song better. Mark Ronson liked the song a lot for whatever reason and wanted to sing his own take on it. Thats all. If anyone love music they would know the difference.
