  • I prefer this one to the Smiths version *braces oneself for a lot of hate*

  • who is that singing

    ?

  • @GamesOf2Halves Because before Ronson released this he sent it to Morrissey and Marr and they both approved of it to be released, and Morrissey has said in an interview before that he likes the version....

  • Hey .. to all those discerning people giving this the big thumbs up.. you might also enjoy William Shatner "paying homage" to the Beatles' in his cover version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Check out his fresh new take on it!

  • Cover versions are ok, IF they are well done. Unfortunately... this twat needs putting out of his misery with a bullet in the back of his head. Terrible.

  • Love it

  • Love ir

  • My theme song when I beat out some guy in tennis, to break the tie in the last game of the last set. ACED!

  • I'm sure some people have trouble holding on to the past. And some people have trouble with aforementioned people. Just agree to disagree. Some people prefer using ovens, others microwaves. Some Bugati Veyron (very fast and expensive car), others 53 Chevys... Give me the latter of both! I want the hot shit! This version is more exciting, and COOLER than the original! But, at the same time, I HATE jackers! So... I'm going to like the NEXT version of this song. No matter who makes it...

  • PERFECT SONG

  • Set free me why don't you

get out my life why don't you

Cause you don't really love me, no

You just keep my hanging on.

The Supremes - You Keep Me Hangin' On

  • Meghallgattam az eredetit, de nekem ez sokkal jobban tetszik. Valahogy új értelmet nyert és a dallama is sokkal szebb, nem beszélve a zenéről.

  • 52 people are well bent

  • 21/04/2007 UK no 2

  • Love thisssss so so so much.

  • I prefer this version as well

  • I agree I prefer this

  • I thought this was bad until I heard Coldplay cover the same song.

  • I'm probably gonna draw the ire of the raging YouTube community here, but I actually prefer this version.

And yes, I am a Smiths fan, I just prefer this version.

Same as I prefer Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower and Metallica's Whisky in the Jar to their respective originals.

  • Turrible

  • I like both versions.

  • Everybody talkin about wich one was better da original or dis one but nobody even knows who originally did da song nd i can tell by da comments, get yall history together first "hypsters"

  • I like that Mark Ronson covered this song. It matches his style and he did it well. Although the Smiths are my fav, i can always appreciate a good cover.

  • I heard this version of the song first, last year, even though I've been a fan of the Smiths since I was 6, and I fell in love with it. Now that I've actually heard them both, I like the Smiths version better, but I still really like this version =)

  • omg I love this version ... hadn't heard the original so it messed me up to hear that version

  • Anybody hear this remixed by Groove Armada? If anyone should win the "best version of Stop Me" contest it´s them (IMHO indeed). Btw there are many other similarly fantastic songs in the mix - it was the Lovebox Weekender I believe.

  • Good remix. On the other hand, "There is a light..." remix turns my stomach. I don't know who did that one but they should be blacklisted lol

  • The song was originally Inspired by Diana Ross and the Supreme's 1966 "You keep me hanging on" which, was later done as a psychedelic rock cover in 1967 by Vanilla Fudge, Which was then redone by Kim Wilde In 1987 and remade by a group Named "The Smiths" also in 1987. Reba did a cover of the original in 1996 and then Mark Ronson did a cover of the Remake done by The Smiths! Things are constantly redone through out time, artist draw inspiration from others, at least the original was credited...

  • @SegChainberland

I do not hear any link between Diano Ross 1966 hit and the SMITHS song..Kim Wilde did a real cover of the Supremes, no doubt about it...

  • @BorlandRIP7 Your Right this song particularity was a mix of The Supremes "You keep me Hanging on" and the Smiths "Stop Me if you think that you Heard this one before. Ronson combined them" The rest however are remakes of The Supremes. I heard the hook at the end of this song from the Supremes and assumed that this was also redone by The Smiths However it isn't The Smiths original song doesn't have that, Supreme hook "you keep me hanging on" Ronson just combined the hook and sound.

  • CRAP COPY.

  • Me: Singing along to 'stop me if you've heard this one before' in class.

Girl: Oh I love Mark Ronson

    Me: *facepalm*

  • stop me... from trying to listen to the original 'cos I'm headed there now bitch! Thumbs for Morrissey

  • I have been a fan of The Smiths for what, 25 years? This hit me like a train, and still does. Open your minds.

  • If he liked the song so much he shouldn't profit fom makeing such a bad version of it.... sad

  • I am a huge Smiths fan- the original is wonderful and one of my favourite Smith's song. But this isn't even comparable to the Smiths; it's totally different- it even falls under a totally different genre. I like this just as much as I like the original, it's different, fun, upbeat, whilst the original is typical Smiths that I love. I don't even think of the original when listening to this, and Daniel Merriweather's voice is perfect for this. Mark Ronson has had such a good take on this.

  • lol nothing is better then the original - biggest lie ever

  • The Smiths did it better in my opinion but this is still a great modern update on a timeless classic.

  • THE SMITHS <3!

  • Daniel Merriweather is the singer why his pic is not on, plus its a smith's song anyways

  • Any one who pays respect to the Smiths is alright by me appreciation for music is this is.... Mozz91:D

  • Como se llama el disco en el que está esta cancion?? Me encantaaaaa por favor!! :D

  • @bellaflordemijardin Mark Ronson - Version

  • Not better than The Smiths, but that's awesome :D

  • i like this version better than the smiths

  • stupid, oh stupid! stupid, that you think you've heard this one before

  • one of the best songs ive ever ever heard , it makes me feel sad , happy , emotional , all at the same time . love it !!!!!!

  • utter shit version of a classic

  • @TheSeanm102

yeah got to admit but morrisey is a bit weird

  • how can anyuone dislike this song

  • sky sports years 2007 brought me here, the smiths were great to old generations

  • Whats with all the hate to Smiths fans?!

  • The Inbetweeners brought me here :-)

  • one word ...dreadful...is it a joke..??

  • lol retards

  • Why can't Mark Ronson write his own fucking songs? ¬-¬

  • @0FlyingSock0 he does....look at Record Collection

  • @0FlyingSock0 he does, its just this particular album is a cover album, and all of the songs are better than the originals

  • the smiths rule??? fkn losers

  • Comment removed

  • 35 people are obviously hardcore fans of The Smiths.... I won't call them names because they might cry and cut themselves.

  • All these hate comments. I'm always happy when another artist pays homage to another's original work by taking on their own version. As always, nothing is better than the original of course when it comes to art and music.

However, some people fail to realize its a cover and its not stealing nor trying to make the song better. Mark Ronson liked the song a lot for whatever reason and wanted to sing his own take on it. Thats all. If anyone love music they would know the difference.

  • @sketcheddreams It's actually Daniel Merriweather that sings this (Mark Ronson is just the producer), but yes I totally agree with you.

  • @sketcheddreams

The exception to the rule that nothing is better than the original is Mark's Valerie..

  • @sketcheddreams ......

  • @sketcheddreams great story, bro.

  • @sketcheddreams Yes deffinitely, this is a great take on the Smiths original IMO, in fact it probably brought the Smiths alot of new fans.

  • @sketcheddreams you tell em'

  • Killed the original, Ronson is an incredibly cool bloke though.

  • Absolute rubbish! How dare he!

  • @3xWink can u send me the originial link ? i cant find it :(

  • Pure crap. Another example of someone ruining the work of true genius. The Smiths rule!

  • STOP ME (listening to this crap)

  • I've heard this before and it is a lot better when Moz sings it.

  • I LOVE THIS!

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up if your listening to this in 2011 :)

  • The Inbeetweeners

  • Wait, how the hell did this get compared to dubstep?

  • this version sucks, the smiths is so much better

  • AMAZING!!! this really got to me and I am offically ADDICTED respect.

  • THAT'S DEPARTMENT STORE MUSIC.

  • much better than the smiths version :D

  • Found ittt

  • yeah, every slow song is "dubstep"

  • Dont die Sean xD

  • is this real life ahaha...

  • @LarsBars222 How do you know that?

  • Comment removed

  • why is dub step behind a smiths track?? MORRISSEY would lace into the guy who made this. not mark ronson cause no one makes their own music now a days. PATHETIC!

  • @brett1234 1. smiths version is much better

    2. this version isnt bad infact its quite good

    3. where is the dubstep?

  • @hibyhihi

    1. agree

    2. no this is shit

    3. over exaggerating on being dubstep. over produced drum loop lets say. not the smiths, not smiths style. didnt give smiths any respect at all. just sucks, sorry.

  • @brett1234 ok fairs on the opinion of the track

only some shit dubstep has a over repetitive drum loop

  • @hibyhihi

    have a good day

  • OMGG this is so bad. doesnt give the smiths any justice!!!!

    PUKE

  • So much fokken hate on music videos. So sick of this shit. Just appreciate and move on (or replay l0l)

  • lol. all my bboys feelin this one. i assume any1 who doesnt like this version can't dance?

  • one friend told me this version was really nice and awesome...

    she´s totally wrong...

  • Such a fresh beat i just wanna bboy to it forever man

  • why must they all add the vocal gymnastics for added 'soul'. it sounds worse than the original...

  • THE SMITHS FOR THE WIN. pshhhht, this has nothing on the original.

  • Stop me if you think that i stole this song without permission

  • @Antimalwaregeek

if you'd done yr research, you'd have seen that Mr. Ronson had invested upwards of $10,000+ on the string arrangement (alone) prior to presenting this cover to Morrisey, who gladly nodded approval upon hearing it.

  • @josiahburke Morrissey may have liked it, but most of his fans do not, and without fans who are there "famous" people, except people.

  • too, The Daptone Horns did the....

  • omjizz, this is coooooooool.. so chilled..

  • Mark Ronson is playing at Greenwich Summer Sessions July 27th!!!

  • You can't help but tap your feet while listening to this, what a groovy track!!

  • gotta love all the clueless shits that think this is Ronson' song. Ain't terrible, but ain't a patch on the Smiths original..

  • @hypercatjohn bro, this is organised by RONSON, he is in the video fucking retard, did you not watch it??!! omg... n00b. Daniel is singing it but ronson did all the backing... wowowowowow.. you dumb son.

  • @fuffsdog21 I was talking about the lyrics you fucktard.

  • An awful rip off of a Morrissey classic.

  • Comment removed

  • damn mark ronson you are a legend.

  • wtffffff , daniel marriweather sings this song , mark ronson is his producer

  • @MrColinsmusic no, its mark ronsons song, he did the music wrote the lyrucs etc he just got daniel merriweather to sing on the track, its ronsons song.

  • @elementsk8co No its not, its a "the smiths" song written by Morrissey ¬.¬

  • Check out the a cappella version on our channel!

  • blue eyed soul

  • @oohkillertofu Maybe you have to have blue eyes to understand that comment, because I don't. Sounds like a euphemism for yet another instance of caucassian artists given a lot more credit than the artists they imitate (because most people listen to music with their eyes at least as much as their ears).

  • This is the ONLY ever remake that's better than the original. Set me free why don't you, babe?

  • @SheffieldBeagles

I don't prefer this to the original. But i like this song. I prefer to think of them as different songs. This is a tune.

  • @jungsbodyguard @jungsbodyguard Yeah, I agree, actually. I was VERY drunk when I wrote that. I do not mean to dis' the man, the chin, the legend, Morrissey.

  • Love it!!!!!

  • i usually don't like modern covers of old songs but this is lovely (:

  • Singstar RnB was killin the song last night ;)

  • who doesn' t love this song??? 16 people are used scumbags filled with liquid shit.

  • dis my shit

  • i love how Daniel Merriwether didn't get credit for this song lol everyone gushes over Mark Ronson but Mark wasn't the one singing. oh well, there's a few who recognize Daniel ;)

  • The most handsome man in the world making amazing music.

  • This is sacralige!!!

  • Hmmm, Morrissey likes 1960's female groups. This version song much closer to a Supreme's song than the Smiths' original. Also, if that didn't confuse people who were reading this enough - the last verse happens to be "Set me free why don't you babe, get out of my life why don't you babe" which is obviously from a Supremes Song called "You Keep Me Hangin' On" compliments it.

If this was released in the 60's...it would've done well.

  • @CrazyShakaZulu agreed !x

  • I lOve this!

  • Not only the Smiths Diana Ross as well

  • It's a cover of The Smiths - Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before and it's shit. IMO.

  • omigawd...Ronson is channeling Boy George's Culture Club vocal style..

-- this cover ain't got nuffin' to do w/Moz!

    (allez les flambeaux!)

    );)

  • i remember this song from Nip/Tuck

  • It's a Nice song for B-boy!^^

  • daniel merriweather <3

  • quella dei The Smiths è un sacco meglio U.U

  • this cover isn't bad, but obviously i prefer the smiths

  • I like both versions of this song!

  • Mark Ronson needs to to: "write his own tunes instead of ruining everyone else's".

God bless Noel Gallagher telling it like it is.

  • It moves my hearth ^^

  • i wanna kiss his cute lips plz plz plz
