  • Reading might drive gamers away? It's because of Square games that I can read as well as I can, they were basically interactive novels up until PS2.

  • @StainIessChina dude, you hit it right on the fucking head. My mom used to hate when I played video games and I always used to tell her that it was like i was reading a book with pictures, but with more intelligent dialogue.

And I completely agree, I think the reason I can read so well and why I am so articulate is because of these amazing RPG's we were afforded on the snes. I played damn near all the good ones. cheers

  • @Proosdagel Thanks for the positive feedback, yeah I actually wrote a paper about the positive aspects of gaming for my English class last semester and their ability to teach and/or improve literacy was one of my main points.

  • I didn't know Microsoft Sam was a gamer. lol

  • This game holds a place in my heart that no other game could ever take. I spent so many hours in grade school playing this with my brother. Good times. I still listen to the soundtrack.

  • first video game i ever played.

  • Is this game better than Chrono Trigger? Than consider me captivated.

  • 28 second intro was wayyyyyyyyyy too long. Seriously? And I would have preferred to hear your own beautiful voice. s_S

  • BARTZ WITH A MOHAWK!

  • yeAH I cant stand the fake voice,it so de-bunks the pleasure, and originality of the review..My favorate RPG of all time though, lukily I have a super NES.

  • OMG talk with a human voice!!!

  • ???ok why does your voice sound like a freaking voice software designed to protect a persons real voice.

  • LOL. your voice is sexy.

  • agh cmon. you killed a perfectly fine review by using microsoft sam.

  • nice review, I give you thumbs up

  • i got three games which i think are the best. Seiken Densetsu 3, Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia/Symphonia.

All three of them have very different styles of playing.

  • Great game, great review :)

  • 2:49 the computer voice cracked lol

  • Get a microphone you fucking failure.

  • "it really grabs you by the throat, and will release you when you're done" ROFL

  • Good video test very clear and exact !

  • lol i used the computer voice on the macs at school to say.....bad things....id turn the volume all the way up, write penis, and LET 'R RIP! ah good times

  • This game appears very childish. Do you think adults would like it?

  • @malwambi Actually it has a deep storyline, with reaccuring characters and bad guys that make the it all the better, it has a massive world, and involves intence strategy, as mentioned in the video too, the music is amazing, and in my opinion never gets old, with a variety of monsters and things to do you'll get right in the game, I think a person of any age should enjoy this game, it is a classic and always will be, even after beating the game multiple times, theres always a challenging

  • @BewareForestShroomz boss or two, about 2 weeks ago i was playing it, i overestimated my skills, and died at hexas (snake lady at the risen continent) it was quite a b*tch because i happened to be playing on emulator and hadnt saved since northtown -_- even for me it's still a challenge, I highly reccomend the game to anyone who hasnt played it, google "Znes" download, buy a usb game controller, go to coolrom(Dot)com and search for Secret of mana rom, and enjoy the best game ever created.

  • You can tell that you are using some kind of computer generated voice.

  • @dori34543 LOL!!! Duh man...

  • I want to play...

  • great review, but you forgot to mention one thing, THE AI IS RETARDED. i wish i could make my partners stay at the inn or something because they always get themselves killed and wasts all my recovery items (which you can only keep four of each, which makes it worst) or they get stuck, i once had to reset the game because i was out of cups of wishes and my party was dead and a partner's goust got stuck behind a builder and i couldn't move myself to get them unstuck, and you can t move gosts ether

  • how long does it take to beat this game on average?

  • MAN THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME, Im definally gonna pick it up if it's at my local game store.

  • this game keeps pissing me off! im in the woods where the witch or whatever is then i cant beat the 2 wolves to get the girl. once your on the ground your dead pretty much

  • @Nemesis986 same with me. I got hit by one of the wolves and since it takes your character ages to get up they kept hitting me over and over until I died and the other person in the team was already dead so I lost. I just wish you didn't start at save points after you die, you should start at the last door or entrance. Still a good game if annoying at times

  • i love this game! and i love how metal the boss music is. great great game. very nostalgic

  • OH MY GOD. I am at level 19 and I totally didn't know you can ride a fuckin dragon!

  • Call the sprite a dwarf again and I'll get Mana Beast on your ass! :P

  • this game and Secret of Evermore are my fave super nintendo rpgs

  • just lol

  • That review was "magic"al! LOL

  • Such a great game. Still I cry little tears of nostalgia when I see pictures of it. SNES-RPGs are still the best kind. They don`t need 3-D-graphic

  • I love that you say you wont say what the story is... but a minute later say the story is great. lol

  • Secret of Mana had ground breaking multiplayer RPG action.

    Top three RPGs on SNES:

    1-Final fantasy 3

    2-chrono trigger

    3-secret of mana

  • I give this game a 10. One of the best rpg videos games in my life. I borrowed this game from a friend and totally beat the ish out of it. I knew this game in and out. My friend was so jealous I surpassed him at his own cartridge. Man! It's been years and I probably need a game guide to have me go through this again.

  • Secret of Mana (Seiken Dentsetsu 2) was one of the first SNES game I ever played. It was a great game in several ways. But there is one of a few big problems in this game... the translation!

It has been proved since the opening at 0:35, coz the Japanese version features different prelude text. Most chars/weapons/magic names were changed in US version. Ow, this can be a long topic!

[I've played both JP & US version]

  • Weird, is the game being reviewed by Hal 9000? LOL! But yeah this was one of the first games I got on the SNES and I loved it and found myself re-playing it dozens of times for nostalgia! And Seikan Denestu3 was pretty good, a little more complex the the last game, but I don't know why Square didn't bother releasing it to the US, what did they not think we were worth it!? WTF! All the nex-gen attempts at this franchise just couldn't re-capture that game's vibe sadly.

  • 2:51 computer testepop!!!!!

  • Good review. This looks like a really fun game. ^_^

  • .hey man why not 10/10

  • "and the enemies...the enemies are so badass... "

LOL. And I really mean it

  • I gotta say this after playin Secret of Mana when I was younger than recently coming back to it on the Wii it is definitly one of the best games made of all time. Just recently I decided to try Seiken Denestu 3 ( which is secret of mana 2) and lots of reviews stated that it was better than Secret of Mana. I feel that is inaccurate. I found the graphics weren't even as good as secret of mana in many regards. But out of all honesty this is much better than its sequel, dont let any1 confuse you

  • In my opinion Secret Of Mana is the greatest game ever made in the history of the universe. Brilliant music and great graphics. 10/10.

  • he is a SPRITE not a dwarf sprites are fairies that jump around all over the place

  • lol the computer squeeked at 2:50.

  • thats so retarded u used the computer voice to do this hahaaaaaaa that mustv been fun lol

  • Is it important to focus on one weapon in this game? I received a spear while I have a sword and an axe, But if i start using more than one type of weapon will it make me too weak?

  • It will limit the range of things you can do. Spear is powerful and has good range, the sword cuts in a nice arc and is generally best all rounder, but you gotta be close. So if a boss jumps on a higher platform, you need a ranged weapon like a bow or javelin.

It won't make you too weak, but as you get weapon orbs (and have them re-forged by the dwarf smith), you should focus on that weapon. Check out gamefaqs for weapon info. Being versatile with them is a lot better!

  • no its not really important, but theres a point your weaponskill wont increase untill you find a weapon upgrade. With that in mind you can level some other weapons too. Keep in mind the boy character, needs the mana sword at the final boss, so be sure he skills this one. Also some weapons are more effective against some enemys.

You also need ranged weapons sometimes+ the whip.

still its very fun to see all the powerstrikes with all weapons, they all look different and are very cool at lvl 9!

  • nice review dude:)

    very informative, unlike mine lol

    love this game tho

  • Hmmmm.

What can I say more about this game that I have not said before? For me, it still is the best game ever done. Active battle gameplay made this game stunningly fun. Flamie! come on man! Flamie is the most awesome flying transport of all time, even better than a plain or a flying ship. The story, even though in later mana titles is repeated all the time, I seriusly did not expect it at its time. 10/10 in my list.

Btw, it would be better if you used a mike instead of a microsoft sam.

  • gozer than for de review,ik wist dat deze game dope was, maar nu speel ik m op de psp m33-6 ,

wat een zegen ,al die old school square pareltjes!

wtf is er trouwens met die speech synthesizer,is je engels zo slecht :P

    greetz, V

  • so this is just like secret of evermore?

  • To SnortingSkittles

Yes the setup is same as secret of evermore, but the entire story is totally different.

Secret of Evermore is a bit more casual story, while this is pure fantasy story.

If you like Secret of Evermore, you're gonna love this one as well.

This game is also a bit bigger/longer then Secret of evermore.

  • Very similar and came out earlier - better than Evermore in my opinion...

  • Nice review.

But the computer voice thing is annoying.

  • this game is awesome! even better than chrono trigger in my own opinion!

  • i agree. some role playing games leave you stuck making you look all over the place just to advance through the game. some role playiung games force you to start all over again if you sell an important item. eternal sonata was like this.

  • This is a really good game ! much more fun to play than alot of the new games we have now ! This game was a real break thru for its time ! 1993 on the super nintindo system .nothing really deep to say about this game just that its damn fun and addictive to play !

  • hello

  • Heh, in the conclusion, it sounds like the computer voice is about to cry.

Awesome game, still. Even better than Chrono Trigger, in my opinion.

  • just realized that they put this on virtual console

  • they should re-release this on NDS or PSP

  • I love secret of mana, but why do you sound like you have some kind of mental issue? You shouldn't have reviewed it in such a retarded voice. It's annoying.

  • he is using windows narrator or something on mac

  • "Story of Muh-nah!"

    lol

  • lol i am lazy, so sue me!

  • This game is really good but very hard. Even with a walkthrough i get stuck on the boss batles..

chrono is much better but its really easy ..

  • This game is easy with the right tactics. And due to the gameplay style, I can play thru this game over and over while I cannot do that with Chrono despite all the endings added to it.

  • hardest part of the game is the last forest maze in the game.

  • I really should finish this game XD I love it but it's a little hard for me.

Do the characters have any official names?

  • Sadly no

  • Yeah they have:

Randi, a.k.a. The Boy or The Hero or Randy

    Purim a.k.a. The Girl

    Popoie a.k.a. The Sprite

    There you go

  • I disagree when people say that Sieken Densetsu 3 was worse than the original. I like both of them equally.

  • 10/10 in my books! my fav game ever :P

  • I agree too, wryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I wish Hiroki Kikuta, the music composer to this great game, returned to SQUARE-ENIX.

  • secret of mana 2 was kinda lame in comparison to

    the 1st one

  • DOn't fucking lie... that's your real voice!

  • this is fuking hilarious

  • Best game ever made

  • notice how they are all snes or super nintendo games

  • list of best games in my opinion:

    1. secret of mana 1,2 and 3

    2 Chrono trigger

    3. secret of evermore

    4.super mario world

    5. E.V.O

  • 0:00-0:05 my favorite game to date

  • 4:39 ... "and the enemies - man, the enemies are so badass".

    that sounded pretty funny.

  • "The soundtrack is really one of the best I have ever heard in a game"

    I agree wholeheartedly, good sir.

  • LMAO Ducks from hell, Stupid little dwarf haha this review is pure pwnage.

    Nice job, dude.

  • LOL... its better as I keep watching it, DUCKS FROM HELL! LOL. Do you have more reviews like this?

  • Thanks buddy ;)

As a matter of fact I do, just check my profile ;)

  • @DutchShadow are u a robot?

  • "little stupid looking dwarf" "it really grabs you by the throat" LOL this is one of the funniest reviews I've ever checked out. The Text To Speech really made this awesome.

  • Secret of ManAAA, a game of this genrAA rofl guy.

  • do you know sprite is not just a drink but a goblin? ^_^ jk jk

  • i wish they would make this game for ds

  • yes!

  • well, theyre making a chrono trigger on the ds, so they might make secret of mana on the ds

  • olala j me souvien kan je jouai ca avec ma super nintendo. il etai tro fort ce jeu

  • no dwarf its sprite dumbass he was just found by dwarfs tch u make me sick

  • sorry, can´t watch this! this game deserves to be commented by someone with the balls to use his own voice!

  • mana became before evermore

  • sounds like a fucking pokedex

  • Yeah, but this game came before Secret of Evermore. People get at SOE calling it a SOM ripoff, but I don't think it is. It's kinda similar, but it's got a different storyline, concept, and the gameplay has its differences too.

  • I know evermore was made by an American branch of SquareSoft(I know it's square enix now). Was Mana made by the same? or did it come from Japan?

  • I think this came from Japan.

  • Cool, thanks.

Evermore seems only similar to this due to the battle system.

  • but arnt soe and som part of the same series

  • Evermore was fun, but I'd say this game was much better. Secret of Evermore didn't have 3, or even 2 person multiplayer.

  • honestly... the computer voice sucks. can't watch this.

  • lol, what was the 7th element?

  • Hahaha, did the voice crack at 2:50?! o_O

  • As a matter of fact... it did. The voice always cracks when I use the word '' magic '' :P

  • Haha, this is classic. The dialog is fantastic.

  • The "read please" voice is not cool.

  • It's weird how they scroll the "all rights reserved" and "Licensed by Nintendo" with the story as well...

  • this game is so fuckin' cool

  • ok..

  • your lame intro is too long

  • I'm a huge fan of Secret of Mana, but the review did leave out key flaws. Despite this being my favorite game, it does have terrible AI, and I would always recommend playing it with two other friends as opposed to by yourself.

  • lol evil toadstools

  • The voice, a computer, is really distracting.

  • You tell to much

  • I am a robot...

  • LOL this game rocks and your review cracked me up. Once again good job and fav'd.
