However, I am from Pakistan and here the fan bank of Muhammad Rafi is much much more than Kishore or anyone else due to his romantic, soft, verstile and melodious singing style. As he not sings but his style translates the lyrics with his fun.
Melodious Kishore da soulful lata ji and then comming at you in full speed a magical voice from the heavens the greatest singer of them all Mohd Rafi Saab absolutely stunning. Three lengends in one song. They sure don't make them like this anymore.... fantastic number.

Kishore got more songs due to the fact that Lata had issues with Rafi sahab and Lata let Kishore got more songs sung with her. The reason of the issue was Lata wanted increase in profit for the singers when the movie or song makes more business but Rafi sahab insisted of keeping money on a side and do not mix it with art. He advised of singing to acheive the love and support from people rather than money.
Kishore was a great singer but Rafi sahab was a real talent!
@asjadsyed sir, lata rafi feud was between 1964 -1967, when they didnt sing with each othr, mahendra kapoor mannadey and suman asha were the beneficiaries, kishoreda went full fledged as playback singer in 1970 with aradhana. he overtook rafisahab hands down, no discussion that rafisahab is tansen, but the fact that has to accepted is kishoreda remains undisputed male playback king, with great baritone, a genius in singing

My understanding is the Kishore Kumar never actually went through formal classical training. If this is true, then wow! he is amazing. The fact that he is being discussed here along side Rafi shows Kishore's natural talents (not trained talents).

Once Kishore Da was told by someone that "You are a better singer than Rafi Saheb" you know the response of the great Kishore Da - He got very angry. Late entry into this discussion. It is meaningless comparing Kishore and Rafi. Rafi was technically better, but Kishore was the greatest singer for Hindi films. This was given as a quote by Lata Mangeshkar in an interview. He had some limitations, but he was extraordinary. Comparing the two is like comparing Lata and Asha. Fact is that from 49 to 69, Rafi ruled, from 69 (Aradhana) Kishore was boss. He was the default singer, and so many music directors who chose him could not be wrong.

Aradhna itself is a fraud, just a political move to promote Kishore, when Lata was playing her dirty politics. The song chosen for filmfare award it self is a low standards song, even mere sapno kee rani is more deserving than roop tera mastana.

1. Rafi sahab WAS SD Burman's first choice. It was RD who kept both Rafi and Kishore close with different movies. Teesri Manzil - all Rafi songs by RD. Aradhna - all Kishore! The time was changing also. With Kishore's voice so suited to Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh, Kishore Da sang more songs!
2. The "h" sound in "mujhe" and "bheege" is there. Its very delicate.

Let me take a shot at explaining Rafi sahab's lighter pronunciation of "bheege" and "thaam" etc etc. Being a disciplinarian Rafi sahab was, he has never pronounced words with "h" sounds heavily as it was considered audibly unattractive. The "h" sound in "bheege" and "thaam" etc is there but it is pronounced very delicately. With the music and mixing and all, it has become even lighter.
Hope this explains why those words sound the way they do!
There is a difference in pronouncing it "delicately " and not pronouncing at all .. in this case he didnt say " h " at all... he knew he would have run out of breath.. his pitch was too high .,..try it at home.. make sure you sing the line at high pitch like rafi did ..

It will be injustice to compare these three legends with each other. All of them were at their best and Bollywood is incomplete without them. However, I am from Pakistan and here the fan bank of Muhammad Rafi is much much more than Kishore or anyone else due to his romantic, soft, verstile and melodious singing style. Kishore got more songs due to the fact that Lata had issues with Rafi sahab and Lata let Kishore got more songs sung with her. The reason of the issue was Lata wanted increase in profit for the singers when the movie or song makes more business but Rafi sahab insisted of keeping money on a side and do not mix it with art. He advised of singing to acheive the love and support from people rather than money.
Kishore was a great singer but Rafi sahab was a real talent!

I dont agree that Kishore has a lot of hits and more than Rafi saab. a real classic music listener will definitely remember both equally.. Kishore was aam janata due to his easily hummable numbers. Rafi saab's songs are not easily sung. Take Dilke jharoke main. I can challenge that even today its a famous song and people try to sing but fail. Thats the greatness of Rafi saab. There are n number of songs to his credit which nobodyelse can sing.

Once Kishore Da was told by someone that "You are a better singer than Rafi Saheb" you know the response of the great Kishore Da - He got very angry. Late entry into this discussion. It is meaningless comparing Kishore and Rafi. Rafi was technically better, but Kishore was the greatest singer for Hindi films. This was given as a quote by Lata Mangeshkar in an interview. He had some limitations, but he was extraordinary. Comparing the two is like comparing Lata and Asha. Fact is that from 49 to 69, Rafi ruled, from 69 (Aradhana) Kishore was boss. He was the default singer, and so many music directors who chose him could not be wrong.

who says he did not supass Rafi sahb. From the year 1969 onwards rafi sahb got only one award. where kishore got 8 comparing to Rafi sahb's total of 6. All the actors wanted Kishore's voice for playback. If this is not surpassing then God knows what is? And he gave more hits than any other singer even though he sang fewer songs.

LP intially tried "Rafochakar " with Ik haseena thee and Om shanti Om .. in karz... but Rafochakaars voice fell apart.. as paraylal said " Rafi sahabs could hit the top notes right .The songs were just too hard for him " ... then gave the songs to Kishore...and the songs became super hit.. in the movie "Rafoochakkar " only had one song rest sang by Kishore.. movie released in 1981.. LP gave up on Rafoochakkar since they knew he couldnt do it

Both SD and RD knew rafi's voice cannot do justice to the songs that were sang by kishore.. aradhana is one of very few movies whose songs are still popular today ..1.. they are played in marriage ceremony ...2.. many remixes are made.. of mere sapno ki rani .. no singer can start that song the way kishore started it.. Only kishores voice and his rebellious nature could have done justice to it

Ayesha, the only fanatic that is here is you! If your logic can be accepted and we agree that Rafi was used because of Nassir Hussain then the same logic can also be applied for Kishore! He was used because of RD who liked him and thats about it.
However, you are completely blind to see that Rafi was used by everyone while Kishore was around. However, Kishore was used by some when Rafi was not around between 1971 and 1976.

Iam gonna take 2 examples.. shaan big cast.. but a flop movie.. songs were so so .. nasseb came out in 1981.. but so did kudrat and yaraana... and songs of yaraana and kudraat were and still are more popular than naseeb .. hamein tum say piyar and choo kar meray mun ko both nominated.. by the way Kishore sang almost every song along with rafi .
as for 1987.. kishore sang for anil kapoor Mr India... super hit movie and songs..

1. Rafi sahab WAS SD Burman's first choice. It was RD who kept both Rafi and Kishore close with different movies. Teesri Manzil - all Rafi songs by RD. Aradhna - all Kishore! The time was changing also. With Kishore's voice so suited to Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh, Kishore Da sang more songs!
2. The "h" sound in "mujhe" and "bheege" is there. Its very delicate.

Let me take a shot at explaining Rafi sahab's lighter pronunciation of "bheege" and "thaam" etc etc. Being a disciplinarian Rafi sahab was, he has never pronounced words with "h" sounds heavily as it was considered audibly unattractive. The "h" sound in "bheege" and "thaam" etc is there but it is pronounced very delicately. With the music and mixing and all, it has become even lighter.
Hope this explains why those words sound the way they do!

There is a difference in pronouncing it "delicately " and not pronouncing at all .. in this case he didnt say " h " at all... he knew he would have run out of breath.. his pitch was too high .,..try it at home.. make sure you sing the line at high pitch like rafi did ..

ayesha ji m not agree wid u but wid saminabano. rafi taken sanyas bcz. some religions person said to him that singing is not a good things in islam religion n rafi went 4 haz in this particular period n he was living in london so there was no option 4 musicians. but rafi has made comeback in 1997 with kya hua tera waada as leading singer. some musicians like r.d.burmen who always prefer kishore, gave more chance to rafi than kishore after kya hua tera waada.
