  • oh god I swear Taos people are all talk. I made a mistake moving here

  • FART...

  • As an african American im telling you the NCAAP is a waste, they ain't fixing the black community no more all they do is jump on some racist claim band wagon.. I WISH MLK WAS ALIVE, HE WOULD BE DOING THE RIGHT THINGS!!

  • All these protesters are extreme racists themselves who are just money hungry

  • So should I hire a lawyer for the three hotels I applied for in my town as a maid. They didn't hire me because I'm white and DON'T SPEAK SPANISH!

  • They can keep their names, except when working the switchboard where they use a pseudonym.

They can speak their own language except when talking in front of the owner. It's considered very impolite for bilinguagal people to talk a different language in front of others.

Whitten's business is on land owned by the Latino's? Sometimes people are their own worse enemy.

  • @backspacetube its funny how he said the lations own the land...they forget they stole it from the native americans.

  • Most of the people who work in this town have lived in this area for many, many generations and they should be allowed to keep their Spanish names and speak their own language without being discriminated against.

  • I'm all for the protesters.

I think the owner of the Whitten Inn has finally come around to reason.

He was making them change their names to "white" names and making them not speak Spanish! That stinks and shouldn't be allowed anywhere.

I am happy that they protested.

  • Many latinos live in New Mexico, since it was formerly of Mexico, the hotel owner cant tell them to stop speaking spanish, thats their Native land.

  • i care about the negative comments. it is what makes us stronger and more willing to talk about it. keep going the motavation is great. without these comments we would not be out there

  • I'm sure the Inn owner will be happy it was nothing that he did, but posts on youtube.

  • There have been other employees at other hotels that have changed there names as well...and they were white. It has nothing to do with these guys being Latino. Do some research into it and you will see.

  • You can google their names. Also customer support centers for various companies, hospitality cruise ships. Etc.

Don't be so childish as to make it difficult for other non -Taos Hispanics to get jobs.

Also If you start causing problems nationally, call centers will continue to move out of the US, into countries like Mexico (Vangtel) and India, there people could care less what nickname they use on the phone.

  • the centers in North America need to be investigated. thank you for the information. What are the names of the centers and are the employees American citizens?

  • One of the largest call centers in North America is in Sonora Mexico, and run by an Hispanic. They custom tailor names also.

Before calling a person a racist because he won't let you run his business your way, try checking the facts.

  • I think that you like it when a latino person is belittled and keeps their mouth shut. If the shoe was on the other foot, you would be the protestor. A Hispanic boss would have been thrown in jail. people are upset because it did get national news.you dont like it watch something else

  • We can't see anything but that. Everytime we leave our houses, people are protesting...>.>

  • Good point PochoPatriot. Whitten no, the "race" yes?

Seeing a person in a military uniform, and using a name taken from US special forces makes my blood boil.

    Shirley, they are your protesters?

White non Hispanic are part of the culture also. Latino's need to accept diversity.

  • mrfeshgarbage, we hispanos of new mexico are white and proud of our spanish heritage, like i said in another comment those in the brown berets cannot be taken seriously, however why did mr whitten want these names changed, there was no need for it, marcos is not hard to pronounce, whitten was just being paranoid and thinking that when we speak spanish to each other we must some how be talking about him, my first name is jewish, but i bet whitten would not have me change that name.

  • If you had proof that in 40 years, he had not required anyone with a difficult to pronounce name, that was non hispanic, to use a different name on the switchboard, you would be in court.

Then you would of been in court. He has asked others, and so has business all over the world. You are guilty of Defamation of character.

If a business hires a German speaking worker to speak German to his customers, and he does not, he can be fired.

You have no case or you would be in court.

  • Shirley, Joaquin was derived from the Hebrew Jehoiakim. It's nickname is Jo (female) Quinn (male).

It was changed by the French. I would complain about your stealing it from my culture, but we stole it from the Hebrews.

And the quote is also attributed to Ben Franklin and a Chinese proverb.

  • How can anyone take this protest seriously? You have Brown Berets (a very bigoted and ethno-centric organization) chanting "Raza (race) si"? How is that bring people together? Just another joke by people that are just as bigoted as they accuse Mr. Whitten of being.

  • those left wing pro communist groups do not represent new mexicans, and those sorts of left wing groups will always show their faces at these sorts of events, and as a new mexican i can tell you we do not stand behind those sorts of groups, however with this issue i am very much offended with what that hotel owner did

  • This is getting ridiculous. I'm sick of seeing my community divided.

  • You have the right to not work at a business that you do not agree with. If you do not want to use the nick name, you can work at another job.

Your demands? You have no right to tell him how to run his business. You are infringing on his rights. Were the other 4 owners ran out of town also?

Whiiten does not own the hotel, he is just holding it for America and it belongs to you? This country and world does not revolve around you.

60 people showed up at a "national" rally ?

  • If you think Education is expensive, try dealing with ignorance. And these bunch of idiots prove it. Hey bro! pass the duchi pan de left hand side.

  • These people need to get a life. They look ridiculous. Mr. Whitten is not a racist. He is just trying to run a successful business in a racist town. This is America! Not Mexico!

  • Between the Brown berets and the signs, who's the racists?

Taos just went down the crapper.

  • PLease don't judge our community by the actions of these people. It's getting ridiculous and Taos is not rightly represented by these protesters.

  • Comment removed

  • Fair enough punkrocklove575. It's obvious this group wants attention, and they are not getting it . They received National coverage, and America yawned after reading the non story. Local business should not hire them and force them to move. They are hurting Taos.

  • This is our land the only state that respects culture Get used to it cuz I have 4 children and they will name all of their children as I did. and it will continue. Slavery was ended on December 1865, when the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution had been passed by the House of Representatives and had been ratified by the required number of states, that slavery was finally abolished everywhere in the United States.

  • Hard to believe that racism is alive in NM! Whitten and all the racist comments made here only shows that there are still some evil people who believe in white supremacy. They have not learned anything from history. They live in land stolen from indigenous people and they attack indigenous people. It's not about business, it's about fanatic and racist right wing intolerance. Today, they attack people with Spanish names. Wake up, stupids! People with Spanish names was in New Mexico's land first!

  • And what is up with the Che Guevara thing. Apparantly we have a bunch of Communist hacks living in or around Taos. If I were planning to come visit Toas and saw these guys in the video I would make other plans for fear of my life.

  • Wow. This is painful to watch. Don't these people have anything better to do. Check out the other video on Mr. Whitten in Toas. This guy has come in and tried to set up a sucessful business model that has worked throughout the country. Don't they get it. This is the perfect example of job creators (Whitten) v. Job Destroyers (Lulac, ACLU, NAACP, Toas Whackos). Get a job!

  • Its T-a-o-s. I think his business model didn't work because he didn't research this community before he came here. It's a unique area in that it's so diverse that you really can't ask such a proud ethnic group to change any of their ways. He just doesn't get it. I agree that it's painful to watch. I live here and I'm SICK of this already. And, they're not whacko, they're just stubborn.

  • It's the American consumer that he needs to please.

Move past the ethnic group. It has no relevance as call centers and such apply nicknames to anyone with a difficult name to pronounce, and with no duplication. That's what people from around America have tried to tell these two families in Taos.

Your not special, go find a job elsewhere if your unwilling to do the work.

  • The only job they all have is to stand on the unemployment line.

  • what a bunch of jobless morons LOL!
