I have been humming this song for 47 years. All I knew was the line "come to me". I thought it was done by Sandi Shaw. I couldn't locate it anywhere. It is haunting and also captures the early British Invasion spirit. What a pleasure!
Can't believe I found this song. It was my first ever single - always thought it was Julie London that's why I couldn't find it. Many many many thank for posting. Really appreciate it :-))))
just listened to this again, oh dear , what meloncolic memories it brings back.
18 , and in love for the first time ( well it was `64 ), manic biker with a big gang of lads , now all older of course ( 65 )! best days of my life. I`ll always believe that `64 was beyond doubt , the finest bestest year of all time, be in touch sooooon...............
To continue ... I remember just a tiny bit of the lyrics ... in fact, the chorus ... it sounded like " Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, Johnny ..... Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, come back ...". I don't remember the name of the song, or the name of the singer, but, if anyone could identify the song and singer for me, I would willingly send to them £100. Seriously. david.neale3@ntlworld.com
If I could get a copy of that song, my search of more than 40 years would be over ....
I remember when this song came out ... I was thirteen years old, and thought that this, and one other song, were the most beautiful songs I had ever heard. This one still is, and always will be, for me, a staggeringly beautiful song.
The other song came out about the same time ... it was sung by a female, in French, and I am sure she was herself French. Another incredibly beautiful song, and I still remember the tune .... I am almost out of space here .. another post follows ...
thanks LimePopsicle ; remember buying this when released for someone , had it returned , got damaged , lost the tape of it , last year asked here if anyone had it , just logged on since lord knows when and hey ho , here it is ,absolutely fab. this was the one and only tune I ever learnt to play on the piano back in ` 64. fab to here it again

I was one of (2) of Julie's back up singer/dancers as a youngster just getting started in the business when she toured the US back in the early 80s. A great talent, knew how to stir her audience and get them involved. I learned so much from her & many times wonder how she & Dave (her then husband/Manager) are doing now. I went on the road afterwards in my own bands, cut an all-original CD & credit so much to her for being tough with me, she doesn't even know the influence she had.
@zzz987654321 Hi! That's so fabulous, did you perform with her on the East Coast and what club? I'm in Chicago and would LOVE to see her again, thanks!
I recall this song many years ago in the 60s. It had a most haunting feel about it.
Why the heck it did not go higher in the charts just beats me. Especialy during that period there were "stars" with such limited ability riding high in the charts.
I never understood at the time what prevented her from being one of the superstars, or what prevented this exquisite song from reaching the very top. And I still don't understand. A favourite song of that time, and I spent years trying to find it again
As a 14-16 yr old I used to really fancy Julie Grant, but never bought any of her singles. More into looking at her but listening to the Shadows and then the Beatles. After listening to this I never realised before what a lovely voice she had.
I understand how you felt! Yes, she had a lovely voice and I never understood at the time what prevented her from being one of the superstars, or what prevented this exquisite song from reaching the very top. And I still don't understand. A favourite song of that time, and I spent years trying to find it again.
And since it now seems to work I can add: if Tony Blackburn really "broke" this one, I'd say: all is forgiven. (Tony Withers, who is mentioned on the liner notes of the cd, had left Caroline at the time so this mention must be wrong).
Tony Hatch tried it with the French version by Richard Anthony too, Si tu as besoin d'un ami (it is on YouTube, cannot link to it apparently). #31 is not all that bad, but high chart positions really mattered then, so if Julie could not make it with this one, then what?
god this song is good thnx for posting

@TonyBlairsaWanker I sent you an e-mail with two song candidates, but I doubt either is the right one.

@TheLimePopsicle although "Johnny Loves Me" by Suzy has a lot of Johnnys in it (which I've also posted).

Just awesome. Agnetha Faltskog could do a great version of this.
