I remembered to do a thing: search 2 videos in English - the most stupid thing I remembered - I searched for "Britney Spears - Toxic" :-p , and the most inteligent - the first result to the word "documentary" - the result was a movie about the world famous game Hall 3.
In the first page of Britney, the comments like "beautifull", "I love you britney" and so one came from: Greece, USA, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Romania, Honduras, Brazil, Bolivia, UK and Germany. The same, in the documentary: 8 comments from United States and one from Ireland. That is the "communication" that English help to do.

You have tones of good documentaries in Youtube. And you can make the same experiment as me, search a stupid videoclip or a little funny thing in English, and then search a thing like "documentary", "discourse" or something like that and compare. Or you can make better, see my playlist "English". That reflects the real situation: almost nobody can really learn English. In EU the prime-ministers that can speak English are only the nordic ones, and all of that "learned" that.
I know there are good documentaries on youtube. My point: I don't care about documentaries. If I watch one, it tis because I watch along with my mother, or because I need it for school. since school blocks youtube and not my other sites and I need to printscreen stills from it (and the site I use gives way better quality than youtube HQ) I don't watch documentaries on youtube
I guess adults watch documentaries on ytb. and I also guess toxic is viewed by younger people. -> different agegroup
and I know some real-life examples of language-impaired people succeeding to get their English to a higher level than their dutch, without ONE word of esperanto
Lets stick to English.. it is much too much work to translate every single scientific studies, historical information ETC. if you don't do that, people will need to learn English to research and get information, their mother-tongue, and this politically correct language!
For science stuff Esperanto does actually do a great job, as its logic is extendable to contain new concepts needed to understand new things.
And hey, for now we cannot understand Japanese science stuff, and Japanese people are really not that keen to translate everything. It's easier to get that translated using Esperanto, even when it's not THE international language. It has proven quite usefull for me in everyday life, so why not use it?
because for people with pre-existing language problems learning a foreign language is difficult enough. so why teach them a language other then THE international language
Because is POSSIBLE. Almost 100% of people wo try to learn another linguages can't sucess. For example I studed that for 5 years and can't say the things I want to say in this comment because I don't know the words, I only remember that in Esperanto, I only have 1,5 year of that and I speak fluently THE international linguage :-)
I had 6 months of English and my whole class spoke it at 4 VMBO-T level. I had 4 years of french and german and I still can barely manage VMBO-T level
English isn't that hard, and I don't believe you are still at that level after 5 years! and on top of that: English still is spoken the most in the modern/scientific world. Look at wikipedia! English has 3 000 000 articles, Esperanto 116 000!
English is obviously THE international language, not Esperanto
And to back up my comment about the difficulty of english, do you think that entire classes could reach CEFR C2 before entering VWO 5 if it was a difficult language? granted, we participate in the TTO course, but then, a 100% rate of succeeding in reaching HAVO level in 2,5 years?

Tot nu toe is Esperanto te klein om deze positie in te nemen, en tot die tijd is het logisch dat het door de wat gekkere mensen als autisten, milieubeschermers en hippies in leven wordt gehouden. Maar het zijn steeds meer mensen die het spreken, in mijn subjectieve waarneming, o.m. door internet.
Dat een extra taal alleen maar meer afstand zou creëren klinkt aannemelijk maar is in de praktijk vooral een uitvlucht. Met Esperanto ben ik verder gekomen dan ik ooit van een taal had verwacht (daarbij meerekenend het resultaat van het leren en gebruiken van andere talen) en het helpt enorm om cultuurgrenzen te overschreiden. We zijn als Nederlanders best brutaal met ons steenkolenengels, dat probleem kom ik met Esperanto niet tegen.

theoretisch heb je gelijk. In de praktijk ligt het steenkolengehalte van ons engels echter vooral aan zaken als uitdrukkingen die niet hetzelfde betekenen als wat er letterlijk staat, en cultuurgebonden begrip, waar Esperanto per definitie geen last van heeft.
Ik vind engels maar omslachtig met al die tijden van het werkwoord, ik vindt onvoltooide en voltooide tijd en verleden en tegenwoordige tijd veel handiger!
ik vind engels veel emotievoller en mooier. het ligt er trouwens maar aan hoe je engels hebt geleerd: heb nooit grammaticales gehad en zit nu boven 5-havo niveau
ik zit nu in de 2e van het gymnasium... En ze doen hier echt moeilijk over Engels terwijl ik het eerst zo makkelijk vond. Ik raak juist in de war van al die grammatica, sommige dingen zijn zinvol anderen niet.
Ik kan nu met mijn Esperanto het grootste deel van latijn lezen en begrijpen zonder na te hoeven zoeken. Als ik nu verder latijn zou willen leren is dat veel gemakkelijker (reken 2 lesuren per week ofzo) dan zonder deze achtergrondkennis.
Talen op school is ook lastig als je niet oefent. Je hebt flink mazzel als je iedere dag op school meerdere talen kan gebruiken.
Momenteel gebruik ik ongeveer de helft van mijn ongeveer 8 talen dagelijks en ik heb er veel nut van, vooral dankzij de opwelling om eens Esperanto te leren.
engels is een wereldtaal geworden omdat de Engelsen vroeger de meeste volken hun vrijheid hebben ontnomen en/of uitgeroeid hebben. In het feodale tijdperk gaf dat je misschien het recht om te eisen dat iedereen op de wereld jouw (ik bedoel niet jou) taal sprak. Esparanto is politiek neutraal, het is niet zo dat je andermans taal moet leren. Engels is geëvolueerd waardoor er allemaal stomme uitzonderingen op naamvalregels etc zijn, esparanto is ONTWORPEN waardoor je geen moeilijke regels hebt.
dan blijft het dat het een wereldtaal is waar je veel verder mee komt dan esperanto, kijk maar naar de wikipedia, en niet voor niets hebben tto-scholen de combi NL-EN, met (bij ons) 22/35 van de lesuren in het engels
Ik vind dat de heel wereld gewoon lekker engels moeten leren hebben we niet al het gezeik van verschillende talen leren, en duitsers en fransers moeten ook gewoon engels leren, ik snap niet waarom wij hun taal moeten leren ik zie duitsers of fransers ook niet nederlands praten. en btw bijvoorbeeld in een spel in europa doen ze nog langer over om het te publiceren omdat bijvoorbeeld duitsers weer hun eigen taal moeten hebben, engels is gewoon de beste keuze

Zo'n taal leren aan alle mensen kost van geen geld? Ik moet er niet aan denken om nog een taal te leren, ik ben al blij dat ik me kan redden met Engels en een beetje Duits, waarvan Engels toch de meeste toekomst heeft.
Ik hoop absoluut niet dat hun idee ook maar een beetje in de EU komt omdat we het gewoon zouden moeten doen met Engels, Duits en Frans! Waarvan Engels al van kleins af aan gepromote mag worden.
Esperanto wel zeker? Dat gaat dan alleen gesproken worden voor "politieke doeleinde"? Gebruik dan gewoon Engels en leer dat ook vanaf jeugd af aan. Overal (in ieder geval in mijn omgeving, en daar valt ook internet bij) wordt Engels gesproken.

Talen op school is ook lastig als je niet oefent. Je hebt flink mazzel als je iedere dag op school meerdere talen kan gebruiken.
Momenteel gebruik ik ongeveer de helft van mijn ongeveer 8 talen dagelijks en ik heb er veel nut van, vooral dankzij de opwelling om eens Esperanto te leren.

engels is de taal die je in de hele wereld kunt gebruiken, maar niet esperanto

engels is een wereldtaal geworden omdat de Engelsen vroeger de meeste volken hun vrijheid hebben ontnomen en/of uitgeroeid hebben. In het feodale tijdperk gaf dat je misschien het recht om te eisen dat iedereen op de wereld jouw (ik bedoel niet jou) taal sprak. Esparanto is politiek neutraal, het is niet zo dat je andermans taal moet leren. Engels is geëvolueerd waardoor er allemaal stomme uitzonderingen op naamvalregels etc zijn, esparanto is ONTWORPEN waardoor je geen moeilijke regels hebt.

dan blijft het dat het een wereldtaal is waar je veel verder mee komt dan esperanto, kijk maar naar de wikipedia, en niet voor niets hebben tto-scholen de combi NL-EN, met (bij ons) 22/35 van de lesuren in het engels

Ik vind dat de heel wereld gewoon lekker engels moeten leren hebben we niet al het gezeik van verschillende talen leren, en duitsers en fransers moeten ook gewoon engels leren, ik snap niet waarom wij hun taal moeten leren ik zie duitsers of fransers ook niet nederlands praten. en btw bijvoorbeeld in een spel in europa doen ze nog langer over om het te publiceren omdat bijvoorbeeld duitsers weer hun eigen taal moeten hebben, engels is gewoon de beste keuze

English should be a primary subject in high schools, and not just 2 lessons of 45 minutes a week, make it four or something, or encourage bilinguar education (in a 50%/50% way)

Of course :) It's not that hard in the Netherlands to get by in English. My Esperanto is even lots better.

Zo'n taal leren aan alle mensen kost van geen geld? Ik moet er niet aan denken om nog een taal te leren, ik ben al blij dat ik me kan redden met Engels en een beetje Duits, waarvan Engels toch de meeste toekomst heeft.
Ik hoop absoluut niet dat hun idee ook maar een beetje in de EU komt omdat we het gewoon zouden moeten doen met Engels, Duits en Frans! Waarvan Engels al van kleins af aan gepromote mag worden.

Ik spreek ook Engels :) maar je moet echt niet denken dat Engels zo gemakkelijk is dat iedereen in de EU het zomaar kan spreken.

Esperanto wel zeker? Dat gaat dan alleen gesproken worden voor "politieke doeleinde"? Gebruik dan gewoon Engels en leer dat ook vanaf jeugd af aan. Overal (in ieder geval in mijn omgeving, en daar valt ook internet bij) wordt Engels gesproken.
Met een extra taal creëer je in mijn ogen alleen maar meer afstand.
