Long time ago as a kid I saw an old probably 60's colour-movie, same story, people kept overnight in an evil haunted house as an experiment. It was so scary I it gave me plenty sleepless nights.

First I thought it was the original "Haunting" of 1963. But that looked entirely different: black & white and with different actors. I saw a colour movie. And it wasn't this remake, I saw it in the late 70's. Does anyone know which movie I mean?

I'm going to be the lone dissenter and say that I thought this version was better than the original, and so did my mother, so I'm not totally alone. I thought the original was boring. No offense to Julie Harris personally, but I thought she was as dull as a dishrag in that movie. The special effects were lame in this one, no doubt. But Owen Wilson's character was a big improvement on the original portrayal, as was Catherine Zeta-Jones' role. To each their own.

This movie was great, but I liked the original just a little bit better. The 1963 version had more of a creepy factor for me because you never saw the "ghost". I loved the way that the original really let my imagination run wild. The CG aspect in this took that part away and made it a lot less spooky for me.

Oh my gosh, I saw this film when I was about 7

I've always wondered what it was actually called, coz I've been trying to find what it was ever since I saw it!

I only remembered some scenes, but watching this, more of it is coming back to me now

You should watch the original movie that was made in 1963. Normally old black and white films don't scare me but that one gave me the creeps.
