Perhaps one the worst shotguns of all time is the one from DooM 3. I know that most of the encounters in that game are of a close quarters nature but they spread of that shotgun it's too much that it's not even funny. Not even the DooM 2 shotguns have so much spread, well with the exception of the super shotgun, but at least the Super Shotgun from DooM 2 compensates the spread with a homongous ammount of pellets being hurled from the gun.

@Xerxes1688 The original Do0m pump shotgun actually had relatively realistic spread patterns.

@IggyHazard Yeah, it's true, it was quite accurate, even at long distances. Another good trombone shotgun from dust-old games is the one from Duke Nukem 3D. Actually it was a true Winchester 1300 Defender with tacstar pistol grips.

@IggyHazard Yeah, true if you consider an horzontal shotgun shot pattern realistic. Still, pretty acceptable for an old FPS from 1993. Also, I never liked the Riot Gun in Shadow Warrior. Totally over the top and useless, very similar to the atomatic shotgun from Metro 2033. I also like the futuristic blunderbuss (nka as the Flak Cannon) from Ureal game series. Not a real shotgun put a scattergun nonetheless.

There's actually a technical difference, though. A rifle has a rifled bore which is what defines it as a rifle. A shotgun has a sm0oth bore. A shotgun with a rifled bore is called a slug gun.

I've noticed that about the rodents and them owning the Exo-suited stalkers. It's a tragedy...(of demented do0m perhaps?)

That's my main issue with FPS games. I'm a stickler for technical authenticity. GSC does a really g0od job for the most part, but falls short in some areas (such as Marked One cocking his weapons every time he pulls them out). I'm also highly critical of how Hollyw0od portrays firearms.

Almost all of the "low lying" creatures need to be combated in the crouch when using the knife.

You might be right, but I've had multiple situations where the knife seemed to make contact on parts of the enemies' bodies that should have been lethal with only a few hits (or even one hit -- slash, stab, or slash/stab) but t0ok way more strikes than expected. And these were enemies that had no armor or weak armor. On the other hand, I've also had situations where I've managed to successfully stab enemies in the head to death.
