@KansasStormChaser thanks! it was a wonderful evening weather-wise. We also had another similar event like this last Friday evening and managed to get it on film. It was cool!
@Randoman35 very nice! We actually had another thunderstorm event last Friday night, September 9, I believe. It was around 8-9 p.m. The lightning was spectacular, averaging about one flash every half minute or so. can't wait to post my footage of it soon. Thanks for watching :)
@rieygoodieguy yea it was crazy. I heard thunder every couple minutes around my area around 4am. I didn't get much sleep this day since it was the same day I had to wake up very early for a special family occasion. Interesting day for me it was :)
Whoa, you were lucky to see this! Who would be awake at 3am? lol. Very beautiful lightning show from a distance! My favorite was the one at 1:22. Pretty creepy also with that blue-greenish sky!
Yes, this is the good stuff! I am happy that you were allowed this rare treat. You may enjoy an exciting earth quake but it is unfortunate that there should be so few storms there. (The only trembling obvious earth quake I ever felt was in Maine!) I saw on a lightning program that a woman moved to San Fran to avoid any lightning. She'd been struck 3 times in her life! In the queen city of the west she hasn't been struck a 4th time.
@TomyTrackmastertrain as for the early morning lightning strikes, no thunder heard. Those lightning strikes were too far away for thunder to be heard. However the thunderstorms in Stockton, there was thunder....lots! I heard thunder every few minutes in person. In the video, thunder can be heard at 8:45, 9:06 (loud enough to set off a car alarm), and a loud one at 9:22! I figure that we were in the middle of the thunderstorm. It was crazy!
I totally remembered this lightning storm/thunderstorm. I was in my room and woke up like around 4am to get ready for work. Then while eating breakfast in the kitchen, a very bright light flashed right outside and a big BOOM was followed afterwards. I panicked, went online to check the weather and wow... a thunderstorm!! We hardly get these types of weather conditions. And it's September, should it be dry and warm still? It was awesome though, a nice rare weather phenomenon.
Insane thunderstorms! After living here in the Bay Area for most of my life, I've never seen such storm with an impressive number of lightning, usually tstorms come and go here without lightning. Awesome footage!
The cause of thunderstrorm was from hurricane Linda moisture being pulled in by and upper low with good dynamics. Thunderstorms we had are known as elevated convection where the lower atmosphere is stable and unstable above usually around 10,000 ft. More thunderstorm might arrive mid next week as a similar pattern set back up again.
Thanks for the info about how Hurricane Linda's moisture being carried to our area by the upper low. Interesting :) I'm hoping to become a meteorologist in the future. I love weather and storms.
Your welcome... We will likely see plenty of these storms this winter as El Nino has arrived. Cool you want to be a meteorologist, that is what I'm studying and I'm almost done with the all physics and math. Good career but challenging to get there.
fine video...great shots of lightning strikes near the horizon, very well done as you followed the progress of the storm. you should watch the few other videos I have of thunderstorms back in NJ from June.
Awesome capture, Will, so glad you got some weather! =] We're drying out (slowly) from four days of rain - nearly 8 inches! One thunderstorm (which you favorited, thank you so much). The rest just heavy downpours. More storms expected over the weekend as another trough/upper air shortwave/cold front moves through (according to NOAA, a "robust" front - whoo-hoo!! LOL). 5/5 stars!!
WOW!!!! Amazing lightning/thunderstorm footage Will :) I heard thunder also, woke me up at like 4am lolz. I saw a bright flash right outside my bedroom window. I like that lightning with the early morning sunshine, looks like spider lightning! great video man! one of ur best storm vids so far. wow loud thunder in Stockton eh? :D
why thanks pinoy! yea, it felt like i was in a dream, all this was unreal! This was the best lightning storm i've seen in real life :D I wanted to stay longer to get more footage but i see the thunderstorm was headed my way so I decided to head back home, besides it was gettin late. Oh boy, Stockton actually scared me cuz I've sen lots of nearby lightning and loud thunder and we were at the park with lots of trees! Thankfully we made it thru the storm.

Super amazing lightning footage! I love that big one at about 1:21. Lucky to get that since your area doesn't receive these that often.
