I'm sorry I like KRS1, but I don't agree with this. We shouldn't use this word in any form. If you have to trick yourself into using it you defiantly have a very low self image of yourself….
DEAR KRS let me answer your question." if this is what i define my self as why would anyone be mad?"ANSWER..because you dont live in a bubble or a vaccum you live in a world where what you do, say &believe effects people around you. if you accept a term of aless than human..then you will subconsciously behave and act like less than a human being and other people have to are affected by it. including blacks like me who dont want to be around people who consider themselves less than human ..PEACE
i can buy it in the sense of "respect your language", OK... but wtf is up with telling me im not allowed to speak it.... This is the problem.

I have tryed to explain this to white suburbanite yuppies. They cannot grasp this concept. they would rather brush it under the carpet and ignore it. That in itself is disrespecful. But my friends who grew up in the hood, yes white people in the hood, They understand it. because we all live in the concrete jungle and depend on each other. but since the cities are going through gentrification. we have noticed a new form of prejudice arise. black have been put down for so many centuries, that there self esteem is so low, that now when we are all equal they find a way to keep themselves seperate and down by calling eachother a nigga rather than a human being.
@lnb252 Take a look at nature. The Strong Dominates the Weak. Negroes happen to be the weak, and so they are dominated. Simple as that. Deal with it. Stop complaining 24/7 about the big bad "white man" or asian or whoever you wan't to blame. There is no one to blame but yourself. Either stop whining about it like a bunch of cry babies or revolt. Damn insecure weaklings.

@MistaGeezy Hip Hop culture is OUR culture no matter what ppl try to say

@RottenPeachState706 - well then sir I guess I AM a part of the culture after all. I grew up in the hood. Right down the street from The Foxxxy Lady, right around the corner from Thomasville Projects, around the way from Grant Park Village. Moved from there and lived in Lakewood. Lived right behind Carver Homes and Price Middle School. Went to middle school at Thurgood Marshall....better known as the school from the movie ATL. So, by your own definition, I am of the culture.
@MistaGeezy you may be from a black area but the difference is you NOT "BLACK" dats what the difference is you cant walk my shoes you may be cool & all but you can NEVER understand da mental fortitude you HAVE to have to be BLACK in america and ESPECIALLY in da SOUTH in the DEEP SOUTH at dat so no you not apart of my culture we are a dyin' breed and once we're gone there wont be no more of it to be straight up
@RottenPeachState706 - I respect your opinion and I realize more people than not would share your view than mine. I only ask that you simply open your mind to what it is I'm saying. To view the word through a different set of eyes and see how destructive it can be. I appreciate the back & forth comments because knowledge is born through understanding. Understanding is born through communication. I try to be all about positivity & I just feel the word counteracts natural positivity.
@MistaGeezy and i feel dat but i analyzed the word thoroughly from since i was a Jit before i even hit double digit age years and its entrenched in US. you CANT understand the comradery when we say "what it do my NIGGA" cuz you NOT black i keep tellin' yall that i aint got no problem discussin' it at all cuz ppl have questions and all dat but respect my intelligence when i tell you that its NOT meant like dat when we use it amongst ourselves cuz we are BLACK men who know the "weight" of da word
@RottenPeachState706 - I respect your intelligence, never said or implied any sort of ignorance on your part. You are right, I can never understand what it means to be black in America. I'm not one of these white dudes that walk around TRYING to be something they are not. I am me, straight up...all day. I realize you and any other person using the word as a term of endearment doesn't mean it the way racist people do....and that's sort of my whole point. Arguing the case of mental genocide.
@RottenPeachState706 - is there a way for me to e-mail you? I'd like to discuss some things with you more on this level, I enjoy intelligent convo like this. I'm a member of an independant organization that 's doing a clothes, books and toy give away on Godby Rd this weekend. I'd like for you to stop by if you can to see what we're about. I'm sorry, KRS, but that some justification for some divisive bullshit that you have fallen prey to. If you mean "brother" then say "brother". If you mean "My affectionate name for someone that you of another ethnicity and culture are NOT allowed to address them as because I feel like being divisive" then just say that and recognize the inherent weakness of the fact that divided we fall, united we stand, and that the Owners have us fighting each other to keep us ALL WEAK.
i see emune101 dont have respect 4 his grand parents / any 1 who have respect 4 their self or outher senior citizen i am verry close to my my granparents so i can never say nigga or nigger it is so verry disrespectful
everyone who has comments about how wrong the word is probably doesnt use the word on a constant basis like myself..now im Puerto Rican but when i see 1 of my black or latino or even chinese friends imma always gonna say wats good my nigga,,,,I grew up with latinos and blacks using it around me so i cnt help it..and if u dont like it..oh well..do some research on nyc latinos, MA latinos, CHI town latinos, shit just watch gangland lol
@springmasskid92 - yo, I respect your opinion. I'm a white dude, grew up on the southside of ATL. Many times, I was the only white kid in class. Grew up around the hood. I've even been given a so-called "pass" to use the word. I heard the word on a daily basis...doesn't mean it should be used. The word is used and it becomes mental genocide. Its a word of degradation, no matter how its pronounced....with an "A" or "ER". Much love and respect to you brother, but the word is harmful.
@MistaGeezy yea word ..ur right but its inevidibley never gonna end..to me and my boys its just a slang word like dude or bro instead i say nigga..so with that being said IMO its used inna different way nowadays especially in NY so my bad if i offend anyone but for someone who has been using it so long its hard stop its almost like crack
@MistaGeezy naw bruh NO white boy can use that word if im around and im from GA C-Town GA to be exact idk what kinda "niggas" you was around but that AINT what time it is
@RottenPeachState706 - lol, I'm with you. I don't think any white dude should ever use the word either. But let me ask you this, how is it OK for every other race outside of white to use the word? Fat Joe uses it and its all good. JLo says it and folks lose their mind. They both are Puerto Rican.....why does Joe get a pass?
KRS actually thought more in depth about it, and updated what he thought. He's still not against it, but he found that it can be derogatory.
I personally think it shouldn't be used by any one. Though it's spelled different and has a different meaning to some, it's still branched off from the original word "Nigger". People died over that word. Many died while being oppressed and or fighting oppression. So for those people I will never say it since they died for our freedom as equals.
THE WORD NE-GER COME FROM THE JEWISH VOCABULARY AND THE WORD IS TO IDENTIFY THE COLOR BLACK BUT THE IGNORANT TOOK THE WORD TO OFFEND THE DARK SKIN PEOPLE, SO IF THE IGNORANT WOULD A CALL YOU GREEN IN THE JEWISH LENGUA WOULD YOU GET OFFENDED TOO?.....one more time it's my opinion.
SEE THE SO CALLED INTELECTUAL ALWAYS MAKE WORDS TO PUT IT IN A DICTIONARY.....IT MAKE YOU WONDER IF YOUR BOSS COME TO WORK ONE DAY AND SAY: "DAM!!! HATE MONDAYS" HE CAN BE TALKING ABOUT YOU AND DONT EVEN KNOW IT, OUR ANSCESTORS USED TO SPEAK WITH SOUNDS AND SYMBOLS, NOW WE LIMITED OURSELF USING THE ALPHABET WHEN OUR KOWLEDGE IS BEYOND THE -ABC-....once again is my brotherhood opinion, KRS-ONE RESPECT
I appreciate your attempte at simplification, but no...it isn't the same word.
It is the functionality which is the same. You are partially correct, though. No matter what I call the trigger of a gun, it's inherent functionality as a MECHANICAL device is to initiate the mechanism whereby a bullet is discharged from a firearm.
As a linguistical, contextual device, the term "nigga" is drastically different from the term "nigger". Spelling, pronounciation and context actually can change the inherent functionality of a word. This is a fundamental rule of communication.
notice at the end when KRS-One says "you'll learn our language."
If a white person learns that language and uses it they are deemed a racist. Not to mention 95% of what KRS-One says in this clip makes little to no sense what so ever. If people want to speak amongst themselves and call themselves "niggas" then go right on ahead but it offends me as a black person so i will take no part in it.
well think about it for a second, the words "nigga" and "nigger" are the same exact word in a sense. its just that when people with a southern accent pronounce it, it just comes out as "nigga"
@BeginnningoftheEnd I like him too, and he's usually pretty well logical, but this just makes no sense to me. Honestly, it's like saying "faggot" is offensive to gays but "fag" isn't.
And there's a popular video of a white teacher pretty much saying the same what KRS is saying here. He, of course, is billed as a racist. Hmm...
It seems as if its right but its retarded if u really think about it. Why would african americans change nigger into nigga and everything is ok. To me this makes no sense, why not just eliminate the word so that if anyone says it they sounds like a total racist right away. You dont see my people going around saying "sup my cracka"
Humans came out of Africa, every one on this planet is human[I hope], that means every one have ancestors from Africa. Nigger is a term to identify a person of African descent as ignorant, stupid, etc. Ignorant means not knowing, every one is not knowing. Being that no one knows everything, humans originated in Africa, and we're all human, we're all niggers.
I think its more of a cultural reason. If you know whats in his heart when a man says something regardless of his skin color you'll except it. If he belongs to your culture that is.
Posers, Wannabe, Fakes, Barnie's, Kooks, Newbies, or whatever term that your culture might call Outsiders aren't permitted to join in on certain sacred acts, IE N-word usage. That is a simple Human truth. Its a cultural thing that is only related to race because outsiders would think it is.
(cont) hence the whole "why cant white people say nigga not even nigg(ER) its an "endearing" term right? so whats the problem!? because its ORIGIN is affiliated with hanging blacks from trees, police dogs, and colored restrooms. we took their racist word and flipped it into OUR positive word cutting them off from saying it because coming from a white person "nigga" still reminds us of nigger. the word looses its endearing quality. ..so its really only partially hypocritical in the simularity
heres how i see it, the the word nigger is tethered to slaverey and mistreatment of blacks. so to just juggle the letters in the word to "nigga" and label it as a "term of endearment" is like taking the word stupid and shortening it to "stupa" .."what up stupa!"-still sounds like we're calling eachother stupid, just with an "ebonic" twist. not very endearing to me. even if you linguistically program it as a positive slang and aren't offended by it, the negative residue of the word remains
You can't delete words from out the society's consciousness to appease anybody , ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS , If Whites called blacks niggers but never opressed or enslaved them then then the word nigger would have no negative connotation because its just a word and ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
No, in fact he's not. You must not know too many rappers. Can't forget Common, Talib Kwali, Rakim, Wise Intelligent, Wyclef, Mos Def, There are so many...
Yeah, you could. That's your constitutional right. However, it's important that you remember that with that freedom of speech you have, there are consequences. You could go around saying "hey nigga ! waddup ?", but understand that with some people there will be consequences to you saying that.
thats not the same dan, because you put 'smelly' in front of jew which makes it a totally different term, krs didnt put an adjective before the term. so i ask this are your trying to make a point or are you trying to be sarcastic?if your trying the latter take it elsewhere, this is real talk and theres no time for crap like that.Peace
My point is it is, a racially self depricating word that only a certain race is allowed to utter isn't a very good word to be using in the first place. Smelly Jew is a self depricating description I have heard used many times before. That is why I used it as an example. Hopefully one day that word will be retired from pop culture. The video title even says N word insinuating Nigga is a dirty word, which it surely is.
Sure they do, many white kids who grow up in black communities identify with the word amongst their black friends because of an understood meaning. True story, some things you can't learn in a book.
that would be true in the african-american community but not the same within the hiphop community, because the word nigga is recognized as positive symbolic meaning rather than the oppressed negative version of nigger....and yes me being part of the Universal Zulu Nation (so is KRS-ONE) and us being the founders of True HipHop as well as it being Multi-racial, we do realize our HipHop Culture transcends beyond all racial boundries. So yes White, Asian, Latinos...all Human Beings are entitled.
so on and so forth. so why is it do we as black ppl, especially black americans are the ONLY race to use a word devolved from a racist epithet against oneanother. It makes us look like utter hippocrates and laughing stocks to the whole world. We should not be perpetuating, much less tolerating this type fuckry. BARE MADNESS, nothing more or less.
When you take into consideration the worldwide impact economically, socially, spiritually and morally of the transatlantic slave trade and how the world trades in commodities of the aforementioned today - you will understand just why the n word offends and why its meaning is contextual. KRS 1 is the don period I grew up with his music.
the UK do not get down like that - case in point CONTEXT although there is a global americanisation going on so I here the n word alot more these days.
Well in luton, england, which is where i was born the pakistani people are known as paki's not as a racial slur but just who they are and same for bengalis they're called benny's and black people nigga's. All equal. But thing is white people aren't in that sort of group, they wouldn't be called crackers and they're not supposed to call anyone else
For those of you who do support the use of the word nigga. You do claim nigga means brother and nigger is the oppresive epithet of hatred, right? now my ? for all of you is what if a white boy uses the word NIGGA? mmmm, then you will see how fast that A turns right back to ER and you'll want to give that white boy a good beating. It is childish and reckless not to mention utterly hippocritical to use a racist slur as a term of endearment.
N.I.G.G.A (never ignorant getting good accomplished) When a whole culture has been disrespected with years of oppression. They should have the right to change a word that has been used to keep them down. NIGGER and NIGGA are not the same, the sound of the A and the ER doesn't matter, it's just something that people have to understand. Black Americans have the right to change it's meaning, lingustics! Just liek KRS said.
I look at it this way, if someone is ignorant enough, to consider any trait such as race being a factor of making someone less than human (i.e. the concept of racism), well, i find that person to be hysterical, and i laugh at them, for their life will be a complete waste until they learn otherwise.
As much as I enjoy listening to powerful inspiring lyrics by Krs One. There is no excuse to justify the use of a racist epithet against your own people which has been used to demean black people through out the slave trade. The "N" word was use by the colonial slave masters, there is no excuse to perpetuate this type of foolishness.
That N word should not be used thats it,because if you use the n word how do you know its the nigga or the nigger, because its to close to separate the sound of it,and its childish foolish and it makes black peeps look like hippocrites,as black people should stay far away from that N word, and if its used then you know its the slavery N WORD,LETS NOT CONFUSE OURSELFS
I just don't want the word solidifying itself into nigga/nigger actions that destroy the consciousness and ultimate state of our people..Thats all I got to say..If nigga truly means brother to you it's all good but I also have to ask why we don't even say that anymore (well I do).
tHE WHORD THAT BLACK PEOPLE CREATED WAS NAGA NOT NIGGER. NIGGER IS FROM THE WHITEMAN AND THOSE WHO USE IT ARE COPYING THE WHITEMAN. JUST CALL EACHOTHER NAGA IF YOU JUST HAVE TO USE IT
I'm sorry I like KRS1, but I don't agree with this. We shouldn't use this word in any form. If you have to trick yourself into using it you defiantly have a very low self image of yourself….

MistaGeezy 1 year ago
@MistaGeezy yea word ..ur right but its inevidibley never gonna end..to me and my boys its just a slang word like dude or bro instead i say nigga..so with that being said IMO its used inna different way nowadays especially in NY so my bad if i offend anyone but for someone who has been using it so long its hard stop its almost like crack
springmasskid92 1 year ago
@MistaGeezy naw bruh NO white boy can use that word if im around and im from GA C-Town GA to be exact idk what kinda "niggas" you was around but that AINT what time it is
RottenPeachState706 1 year ago
@RottenPeachState706 - lol, I'm with you. I don't think any white dude should ever use the word either. But let me ask you this, how is it OK for every other race outside of white to use the word? Fat Joe uses it and its all good. JLo says it and folks lose their mind. They both are Puerto Rican.....why does Joe get a pass?
MistaGeezy 1 year ago
KRS actually thought more in depth about it, and updated what he thought. He's still not against it, but he found that it can be derogatory.
I personally think it shouldn't be used by any one. Though it's spelled different and has a different meaning to some, it's still branched off from the original word "Nigger". People died over that word. Many died while being oppressed and or fighting oppression. So for those people I will never say it since they died for our freedom as equals.

if i put a gun to your head and pull the trigger or "trigga" will you be dead? its the same word..
moresoles 1 year ago
@moresoles
BRP1968 1 year ago
@moresoles

1jks 2 years ago
yeah, i dont quite follow your logic but thats one way to look at it i suppoose
beyo2120 2 years ago
(cont) hence the whole "why cant white people say nigga not even nigg(ER) its an "endearing" term right? so whats the problem!? because its ORIGIN is affiliated with hanging blacks from trees, police dogs, and colored restrooms. we took their racist word and flipped it into OUR positive word cutting them off from saying it because coming from a white person "nigga" still reminds us of nigger. the word looses its endearing quality. ..so its really only partially hypocritical in the simularity
beyo2120 2 years ago
heres how i see it, the the word nigger is tethered to slaverey and mistreatment of blacks. so to just juggle the letters in the word to "nigga" and label it as a "term of endearment" is like taking the word stupid and shortening it to "stupa" .."what up stupa!"-still sounds like we're calling eachother stupid, just with an "ebonic" twist. not very endearing to me. even if you linguistically program it as a positive slang and aren't offended by it, the negative residue of the word remains
beyo2120 2 years ago
You can't delete words from out the society's consciousness to appease anybody , ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS , If Whites called blacks niggers but never opressed or enslaved them then then the word nigger would have no negative connotation because its just a word and ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

danworthj 2 years ago
thats not the same dan, because you put 'smelly' in front of jew which makes it a totally different term, krs didnt put an adjective before the term. so i ask this are your trying to make a point or are you trying to be sarcastic?if your trying the latter take it elsewhere, this is real talk and theres no time for crap like that.Peace
CDHNDC 2 years ago 2
My point is it is, a racially self depricating word that only a certain race is allowed to utter isn't a very good word to be using in the first place. Smelly Jew is a self depricating description I have heard used many times before. That is why I used it as an example. Hopefully one day that word will be retired from pop culture. The video title even says N word insinuating Nigga is a dirty word, which it surely is.

that would be true in the african-american community but not the same within the hiphop community, because the word nigga is recognized as positive symbolic meaning rather than the oppressed negative version of nigger....and yes me being part of the Universal Zulu Nation (so is KRS-ONE) and us being the founders of True HipHop as well as it being Multi-racial, we do realize our HipHop Culture transcends beyond all racial boundries.

KRS 1 is the don period I grew up with his music.
the UK do not get down like that - case in point CONTEXT although there is a global americanisation going on so I here the n word alot more these days.
rojlord 2 years ago 2
Well in luton, england, which is where i was born the pakistani people are known as paki's not as a racial slur but just who they are and same for bengalis they're called benny's and black people nigga's. All equal. But thing is white people aren't in that sort of group, they wouldn't be called crackers and they're not supposed to call anyone else
kamran500 2 years ago

Just liek KRS said.

lol, no problem i guess.
I look at it this way, if someone is ignorant enough, to consider any trait such as race being a factor of making someone less than human (i.e. the concept of racism), well, i find that person to be hysterical, and i laugh at them, for their life will be a complete waste until they learn otherwise.
canipe1 2 years ago

redmondd15 2 years ago
As much as I enjoy listening to powerful inspiring lyrics by Krs One. There is no excuse to justify the use of a racist epithet against your own people which has been used to demean black people through out the slave trade. The "N" word was use by the colonial slave masters, there is no excuse to perpetuate this type of foolishness.
Humblegoldlion 3 years ago
That N word should not be used thats it,because if you use the n word how do you know its the nigga or the nigger, because its to close to separate the sound of it,and its childish foolish and it makes black peeps look like hippocrites,as black people should stay far away from that N word, and if its used then you know its the slavery N WORD,LETS NOT CONFUSE OURSELFS
