I don't get it why Americans hog the left lane in Europe we don't have such problems at all. If they are in the left lane, flash them and they move. In the US you flash them and they sit int he left lane and wonder why your flashign them....

@vbdenny definitely. and when all the students come back to JMU 33 has constant delays. i went through there during block party weekend and it was a complete mess. no one knew how to drive. i had 2 cars with in an hour try to change lanes while i was right next to them which pissed me off alot cause i didnt even see them check their mirrors

It's not only the left-laners. When you go to pass someone, they subconsciously speed up. It's a endless mindless tango. Maybe a little side draft?  I've noticed my car to feel "faster" when in the other position. I do try to make a point of letting off the gas a little when someone is passing.

It's always great when I'm in the center lane [let's say it's a 3 lane in one direction] come up to a slower vehicle move to the left lane to overtake pass and EXACTLY at that time somebody comes speeding up my butt, can't wait the 5 seconds that I am going to use the left lane.

I for one will beep or flash the lights, then safely pass on the left, then use my blinker to get over and try to show just how nice traffic can space itself out when we all agree on what lane to use for passing. Shouldn't be that hard to figure out!

I deal with this everyday, SICK OF IDIOTS thinking once they are in that lane, it's theirs to stay in until they have to turn left 10 miles later! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE???? AAAAHHHHHHH!!!!! Thanks for posting these videos, I want a law where you can bump them up to 2 times, then legally take them out into the median, not to crash and burn, just to teach them they are doing it wrong, and send them back to drivers school! Hopefully they speak english for God's sake....

This used to happen to me very often, I would try to overtake someone, he speeds up, then someone starts tailgating me and I have to either pull out from the freeway or speed up beyond the speed limit to pass the other car, then have that driver angrily pass me and stop in front of me. So i bought an old pickup, got a trailer coupler that protrudes from the bumper so now when someone tailgates me I just step on the brakes and pinch radiators ; )

@IuTiubTM old pickup, damn man, I'd buy a new Mercedes S600 and let them hit you. Most peoples insurance wouldn't cover that so you could rake thm over the coals. I like the "angrily pass" part and I know exactly what you mean. If you are doing the speed limit and have to overtake someone, they might oughta be off the Interstate.

@vbdenny In Virginia the law clearly states that you have to clear the passing lane to allow a faster car to pass even if they are exceeding the speed limit. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate all perspectives.

You should see the Seattle area, you think you are frustrated with these guys, you will lose your mind if you had to drive each day in Seattle!! One thing that really pisses me off is when someone has 5 people in there mini-van and sit in the fast lane going 50mph and won't get into the carpool lane!!!

oh, not to worry. I have driven in the Seatlle area and in LA and I gotta say, the west coast is infested with left lane bandits. For some reason when people slow down there, they never speed up or change lanes one the traffic flow increases ahead. Never could figure that one out.

Because the police don't enforce it like they do speeding, they are to worried about breaking the speed limit. oblivious that the rule says it is acceptable to keep with the flow of traffic. They do not realize they aren't the only person out there, and that driving is interactive. List goes on and on. The police need to enforce the passing lane laws and make the roads safe(they do in Ohio).

I did see a Jersey cop pull someone over for it once. The guy was parked in the left lane and even though the cop was about a foot from his back bumper, they guy never yeilded. Pretty stupid blocking a state cop car (IMHO).

I wish they would enforce the passing lane laws(making some money and the roads safe) ...I have seen too many close calls, where normally a prius is trying to enforce the speed limit...then otherwise safe drivers get the rage and perform a far less safe pass....there is no good reason for driving in the left lane other than to pass no matter how fast you are driving!!!

I guess what might be even more annoying is when a cop is behind someone going slow in the left lane and that doesn't even move them over at which point the cop has to move to the right to pass them. I have only seen one instance of seeing a cop pull someone for the infraction.

In most states the left lane is for passing only. Oklahoma, and Virginia are starting to enforce the law. If you are catch driving too slow (slower than right lane) on the left lane you will be ticketed for impeding traffic. Many leftlane snails not too happy.

In at least one state, it's not illegal to pass on the right as long it's not a shoulder and other details. If you drive over the speed limit, why would you inconsistently care if passing on the right is illegal?

No, I hate it because it's dangerous, reckless, interferes with the flow of traffic (which is 70-90 depending on conditons here in Chicago. And if I was weaving to pass on the right, I'd be guilty of disrupting the order as well. Driving in traffic is an efficient, collectively cooperative system, not about an individual's whim.

There is a reason there are signs saying.... "Keep right except to pass" and "slower traffic keep right" It doesn't matter if you are going the speed limit right beside someone else, besides being legally obligated to be in the right lane UNLESS passing someone, its the COURTEOUS thing to do. Your thinking of Interstates. This is not an Interstate, I can tell this because of the Stop lights and turn lanes. So they allow you to drive in the left lane regardless of speed because of the fact you may need to turn left. But regardless even on interstates people do drive to slow in the left lanes of interstates and it's not the peoples right to enforce the law by creating a dangerous situation. But in this video it looks as if they are all passing someone who is in the right lane.

'SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT' isn't a good enough warning. It leaves too much to individual interpretation to be effective. Some people think that 60 miles per hour is fast, so they'll dawdle along in the left lane thinking they're going fast enough to justify their presence therein.

'KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS' is perfect. It states the law in explicit and unambiguous terms. It doesn't matter if you're going 50, 60 or 80; if you're not passing anybody (or about to), then you have to keep right.
