  • OK, so in what way does the costume make the music here?? who the heck cares about the darn costume ???

  • she looks like a pink football player with that dress

  • Edita's rendition is superb. Absolutely agree she is among the very best singers.

  • She's truly one of the Queens of Coloratura! Fantastic! =)

  • Her singing was so amazing, I forgot about the dress!

  • You have to listen to her singing the Alleluya Chorus from The Messiah! her runs are perfection, truly heavenly..

  • beautifully done!

  • my friend is going to sing this song to get into a special high school thats in Baltimore i think

  • @CrystalLovesMusic11 Baltimore School for the Arts :)

  • i think she belongs in the 1600 hundreds! there just something about her face and nose! Perfect;y adorable!

  • never mind tha fashion sense, i love her laugh! the song is perfectly expressed!

  • thanksssssssssss :D

  • Thanks! Does anyone have the next part?

  • If Strauss doesn't put you in the mood for the ball, then i don't know what will :P

Brava, brava.

  • boy oh boy...maybe that dress is whats making her go hahahaha

  • I bet it would now!

  • @operadude32 The 80s produced some really terrible fashions.

  • You can't help but smile with this one, it's so merry!

  • Man I fall to pieces every time from 3:20 to the end. And I've never heard a high D sung with such fearlessness before!!! Love you Gruberova!!

  • I like the contributor saying it's definitely the 80s. What an era of expressive costumes and hairdos.

  • Thanks! They were my high school and college years so I know all about those expressive costumes & 'dos!

  • @operadude32 The hairdo reminds me of Bonnie Tyler LOL.. gotta love the 80s

  • that was absolutely fabulous

  • STAGGERING!! This is true perfection... Perfect expression, perfect laughing! Thank you so much for sharing the clip!!

  • bravaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • is that itzhak perlman on the podium?

  • No, James Levine

  • whoa. what a visually assaulting dress.

  • haha yeah, but her voice makes up for it :)

  • I love Edita singing this song and she brings so much character to the role. Definitely one of her signatures and Maestro Levine is such a fun conductor. For those bashing the dress, get over it. It was the 80's. Otherwise, Gruberova was in prime voice and I've never heard a better interpretation.

  • hahaha, some bunch of queens here, discussing fashion...

  • burn the dress!

  • Goodness, she has an interesting movement style, doesn't she? Truly, undeniably unique. And what a voice! Also seems to have a fun sense of humor and timing. :)

  • She is quite the comedienne! One wouldn't know it by all of her "mad" roles but she truly excels as Zerbinetta, Maria and Adele!

  • That was soooo amazing! What a voice! yes, the dress is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen, but her singing makes up for it. As as an aspiring musical theatre performer, this is so inspiring. WOW!

  • Now that is some good German. I hate when songs get translated.

  • BLOODY HELL!!! now THAT is what i call singing!! i'm soooo doing that for my grade 8 next year lol

  • When I see this, I feel like Diana Damrau got a lot of her inspiration from Gruberova. Her humor and style is very similar. Very lovely!

  • So true... but diana definetly dresses better! ol

  • My God.....that dress. lol

  • IT'S 1985. NO ONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE WEARING!!! lol!

  • she's really musically expressive

  • I love this song! "Ja sehr komisch, ha ha ha"!

  • I love it!!! and I also love the fact that one of the greatest coloraturas of the century hosted a show with one more of the greatest coloraturas of the century!

  • fantástica!!! gracias por compartir este viedo.

  • BRILLIANT!!! love it!!!

  • Theutonic as usual!!

  • A good example of hideous clothing happening to great singers lol

  • You have to remember this was back in the 80's, this was probably a high end expensive dress! Nowadays if singers wear things like this (cough annick massis je suis titania) they have no excuse.

  • Poor thing. But she's just so much fun to listen to the tragedy of the dress can be overlooked. :)

  • IT'S 1985 FOR GOD'S SAKE...NO ONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE WEARING!!! LOL!

The singing sublime! I just heard her in München 10.03 and she sounded incredible!!!! Fabulous Eb!!!

  • I thought it only goes up to D or Db?

  • Yes, the Laughing Song only goes up that high but she sang an Eb in Lucrezia Borgia in March.

  • Lucrezia is nothing compared to when she used to sing F# like they were nothing, but giving that she is close to almost 60 I still love her hefty Eb's!

Did she also sing Norma opposite Elina Garanca this season?

  • She'll be 63 this December!!!!!

Don't know if Ms. Garanca will sing Adalgisa.

  • in fact she is over 60, to be more exact 63 and her voice is still powerful and stable :)

  • For someone who has seen the opera (Dallas 08-09 season) and gone through the score numerous times, yes the "laughing song" pushes up to an Eb and resolves in Ab major. :)

  • Are you sure? My copy of the score only goes to D natural (bar 79 and the end of the cadenza) and resolves in G major.

  • As does mine - Schirmer score that is.

  • Best sung by Renate Holm... sorry!

  • Always will be a "better one"... but this one is very good by it self.

  • Wow! Love it! I've never heard anyone put so much drama in it. Next time I sing this I will be thinking of her.

  • smashing!

  • Edita is one of the greats. She belongs in the pantheon of the greatest opera singers. I doubt if any dare challenge my assertion.

  • I posetively agee

  • @ajb1776 Did she died?

  • Great!:)

  • SHE BETTER SANG!

  • bravissima

  • Om My God!!!! what a performance! I enjoyed so much, the best i have heard from this one... bravisimo!!

  • astea-s placerile vietii :X :>

  • this is going to be my collage audition song!

  • Have fun with it and best of luck with that audition.

  • what does she wear? what in hell is that?

  • It was THE 80'S!

  • Sensational! Voice, technique, personality are all there.

  • Who spilt strawberry icecream around her shoulders? You'd think one of the wardrobing people would have seen to that. Never been a HUGE fan of Gruberova's 'Mein Herr Marquis,' the legato seems not to be as flowing as..I don't know really. But what a complete performance, this definitely beats any of the representations on CD I've heard.

  • It was the 80's for god's sake - I'm sure you could find some really nice pics of you or your parents from that time!

  • People are soooooooo stupid commenting on the fashion/hairdo of the day. It is high fashion or the time. Which does comments could simpluy be deleted

  • Yes, because censorship is such a rational thing to do.

  • She is an angel!*

    And the last high note?

    Just lovely and perfect!

    Love you*

  • BRAVA!!! She really made me laugh with that song!

  • her dress, her hairdo... 80's Diva!!!

  • It doesn't get any better. Brava!!!!!!

  • She is just wonderful!

  • The best Adele ever! Brava :)
