  • That is a great thing you are doing to save these little guys lives. Glad there are people like you in the would :)

  • Thanks, but there were complications.

the Male already died, and wil be posting updates on the female

  • what happen to the parents!!!!!!!

  • Too much harassment by the house sparrow and they left...though i seen them once in awhile.

HOSPS are baby bird killers and I hate them.

  • Yes this is remarkable... I had a similar experience.. By the way are these the normal house sparrows that are fairly common that attacked the babies.. The sparrows that live in UK are fairly small about the size of a dunnock.. Strange such small birds attacked the chicks..

    Pl let me know.

    Thanks..

  • Yes House Sparrows, they're very aggressive.

They were imported from Europe in the 1800's.

yes it is I didn;t know it until last yr.

  • Oh no, wish the remaining 2 good luck....

  • Thanks! So far so good!

  • Never heard of House Sparrows doing something like that.

  • Yeah they are known for it.

You never read about it in bird books.

    I found out last yr.

  • did the swallow parents bail out or what?

friends tell ne sparrows are endngered in the UK; i told them we have a few million extra we could send em!

  • I just explained in reply above. Been several more days, no parents return anymore.

There ya go! Yeah, I'd like to! Little bastards

  • Just curious, what happened to the parents, did the HoSp's kill them or drive them away?

FYI... in your earlier video, "Tree Swallows 11-Eggs", you can hear a HoSp in the background beginning at around 20 seconds... maybe it was an omen...

  • I cleaned up the mess, put the nestlings back, and waiting, watching carefully with BB gun.

The P's moved back on top of the box, but never went in. The Hosp continued harassment.

So I opted to take care of the remaining 2.

The female Swallow did come back several times, circling around. the male never came back.

  • My own house sparrow drama continues... They destroyed all but one Robin's egg, although that remaining Robin chick grew quickly and fledged last Saturday.

Also, the male HoSp scared off (or killed - not sure) the Bluebirds which returned to the Bluebird House, and attracted another female to it, and continually sings nearby to declare his territory.

I'm convinced now that killing the female HoSp was a mistake; I should have waited for a shot at the male.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Yeah have to kill the male bastard.

I only have a BB gun which is not accurate.

Thanks for the update..good you have a BB around. The are my next series.
