  • according to its creator, in this 1st movement is presented, "the soul's disease, the current of passion, the tough to narrate joys and pitys that he had experienced before seeing his beloved" of course referring to irish actress Harriet Smithson to whom he fall in love and took him 6 years to marry her and the story continues.....

  • Its about Harriet Smithson .. its based on an "fixed idea" which I can't spell in french. The theme recurs throughout all of the movements. My fav part is 4th movement "march to the scaffold" where they chop off his head.

  • Idée Fixe

  • isn't "fixed idea" idee fixe?

  • Horrendous conductor! No passion, feeling, nothing.

  • the 1st movement of the fantastic is superb. nicely done folks.

  • very touching, must know the story behind it...makes it much easier to understand.

  • have you researched it? This symphony is quite interesting as it is based upon Berlioz's own love life. Basically, its about a young musician that madly falls in love with a woman, and she is the only person he thinks about. Everytime he thinks of her, he hears a fixed melody, and this melody occurs in all 5 mvts. of the symphony. However, things end up going really downhill later on...

  • Seine Hingabe ist einfach faszinierend
