Hello Anna, as I could see on the video, you were the main head of this video. First I must say that you did a great job with this video. I am from Uruguay, Montevideo and I have been an exchange student in Michigan. I didn´t know about Montevideo in MN.
When I first so you people talking and showing images of this city I got impress. Pls continue working and hope someone could bring you to Uruguay and show you this city so you will learn much more about our country. We fell very proud.
WOW! I loved this video! I didn't know that another city had the same name! Well, I wish some day I can visit you guys. I loved your happines and the initiative of doing this. Hugs from Montevideo, Uruguay.

Heyy guys!! Congrats!! you've made such a cool video about your city, and explaining all the nice things you've got there of our beautiful city, our father and liberator, the football soccer teams (eternal rivals haha), the colours of our flag, the pictures on the wall in the city hall. All this is so emotional for me that i live here in Montevideo, Uruguay. Keep on with the good work, and congratulations again!!! You are super welcome here of course!!!! :D
All education is free. I would say our country its moving unconsciously towards an scandinavian like country though there are many issues to solve yet .
All the best and you are also welcome to visit here!!
I know you have settlers in Chippewa Cty since 1800s though I dont know when your city was baptized like ours. As far as I know the connection between the cities began in the 40s. Hope you can come one day here as well and visit. During your winter all the region gets very very nice with excellent weather and beaches were to spend the holidays. It is also a nice place to study.
Many thanks for taking your time to do this video. I knew about your city since 10 years ago when living in Chicago in the US and I was always curious. I dont know if the reason of the name is what you said. Here it is said that the reason of the name of Montevideo Uruguay is the name of the hill for initial sailors Mount VI Direction East West (Oeste in spanish and portuguese). Initially the city was San Felipe y Santiago from Montevideo.
Great work guys, your spanish is awesome!! I knew about Montevideo Minnesota because way back I studied English at the Alianza Uruguay Estados Unidos in Montevideo, Uruguay.. and all of the American teachers were from Minnesota.. (And all of them were fascinated with Uruguayan bakeries... lol we should open one there!!!).. Thank you very much guys and many kudos for your work! regards to your family and people from Mvd Mn.!!
I'm Uruguayan.. The video is so great! Thanks for share it with us ... Now I want to know your city one day! (I´m only a student at the moment, but one day I want go )... Obviously you are welcome to my country too... Grettings from Uruguay!
The first time I knew about the city was because of the movie "Sweet land". Great video!! Greetings from Uruguay, and you are welcome to my country anytime!!
Hello, I'm from Montevideo, Uruguay I liked the video is fantastic at the moment I live in Santiago, Chile.
I'm excited to know that we share many things
mate, asado, soccer teams and cultural parts.
my English teacher told me about this city and was very happy, "go ahead and thank you for sharing this beautiful relationship between the two cities thousands of miles away. Peñarol is my team ." chau ,chau "is bye, bye" in Uruguayan Spanish.
FELICITACIONES !!! Yo soy uruguayo y vivo

Hello from Israel, I am an Uruguayan living abroad, seeing this video was really strange for me. I felt homesick watching this video. Thank you for this awesome video, I hope one day to visit MN Montevideo, I knew the existence of the city, but that's it nothing more, it was really nice seeing your video. Do everyone in Montevideo MN drink mate? Or is something you did for the video? Thank you. <3
Great job guys. Thanks for your video. It was really great to see the mate on ice. Of course, January down here (Montevideo, Uruguay) is summertime and we had 100 degrees a few days ago. Today it was in the mid-80s. But, even in the winter, there is no snow nor ice.
In many ways, Uruguay is like Minnesota. It is rolling grasslands with a some trees along the rivers. Of course, the local trees tend to be eucalyptus.
Let us know when you want to come down here to visit.
Congratulations! It's a very enjoyable video which I really enjoyed, and now I want to go to Montevideo MN! Maybe if sometime I am near I would visit you :)
I forgot something....a big coincidence also between the two montevideos, the niccest girlS allways SUPPORT peñarol !!! like in your montevideo you see ?
hi, I´m uruguayan, and I new that it was a city called montevideo like the one in my country, but....what I didin´t now, is that there si so nice people there, like the ones on the video.I´m aprecciate very much the video that you made guys !! It´s funny to see our flag, the "mate", and the rest, but what is the best, is how you explain everything, but we can see also how you really like and love your city.excelent !! saludos hermanos de montevideo !! (sorry about my inglish)
I'm glad to hear you guys say "Mon-teh-vee-DAY-owe" instead of "Monty-Video." I remember having once spoken to a couple from Minneapolis and when I mentioned the sistercity in the US, they corrected me by saying "It's Monty-Video."
Awesome, I live in Montevideo- Uruguay and I had no idea there was a city in the US named Montevideo as well. Nice video. Congrats, and hope to see you in the South American Montevideo soon!

Hi there! very nice video (Monte-video)!:) Nice to se images from the Montevideo of the north! Keep up the good work! I put on my Facebook so all my friends can see it:)
*F.... AwesomeMmmmmmm! Thanks for posting! Never knew that in Minesota there was a bit of UruguaYyyyyy! I'm chnging from the NYJets to Minnesoat ViKingSsssss! ;]
You know, as a Montevidean myself, I can tell you that the name's origin is disputed at best. Not even us Uruguayans can come to terms on whether it comes from monte video (i have seen a mount), or Monte VI D E O (Sixth mount from east to west, which is from a supposed nautical notation). The second one is slightly more likely
I wish the video had included an explanation of how Montevideo was founded / got it's name. Was it coincidence and the sister-relationship came later?
It does have an explanation -- it is at the very beginning when Anna is overlooking the hill. The name is not a co-incidence Montevideo MN was named in part after the city in Uruguay and in part because of the location of the hill overlooking the confluence of two rivers -- "from the mount I see" --in Latin: Monte video
@curerivervoice It's actually supposed to mean "I see the mount" (Montem video). There are other theories on how the Uruguayan capital got its name based on different documents, but this one, I believe, is the best one.
@curerivervoiceNo,its not from latin .Nobody know exactly but May be from Portuguese. MONTE VIDE EU>..or other version .MONTE VI(SIX IN ROMAN NUMBERS) FROM EAST TO WEST..(IN SPANISH DE ESTE A OESTE)..Resultando de esta forma Monte sexto de este a oeste. MONTE VI DEO
This is great guys!! really nice you`re enjoying Asado and Mate! Come visit some time you will really enjoy all that Montevideo and uruguay have to show!! Thanks for the video!
How cool was that..... I knew about Montevideo city already.. But Artigas????? Wow.. Thank you very much fo share this with us.... Saludos desde Serbia.. Soy Uruguayo.....

Oh!..Really surprised to discover this video. I'm Uruguayan from Montevideo but living in NYC. I must go there one day. Are you guys US citizen? your spanish is very good!. Thank you very much to upload this video. But how become to exist this place? not only for the name but also because aparently you know about our culture and traditions...Uruguay should try to make you visit Uruguay-Montevideo..I don't know, with some anual lotery or giving you special prices to travel. Saludos y gracias.
@gustibabueno I'd never recommend visiting Uruguay, one of the most ugliest countries I've ever been. Montevideo Uruguay is boring and extremely dirty and its inhabitants are rude an uneducated people

Let us know when you want to come down here to visit.

hi, I´m uruguayan, and I new that it was a city called montevideo like the one in my country, but....what I didin´t now, is that there si so nice people there, like the ones on the video.I´m aprecciate very much the video that you made guys !!

The second one is slightly more likely
francobal107 1 month ago
I wish the video had included an explanation of how Montevideo was founded / got it's name. Was it coincidence and the sister-relationship came later?
charlesmchen 1 month ago
It does have an explanation -- it is at the very beginning when Anna is overlooking the hill. The name is not a co-incidence Montevideo MN was named in part after the city in Uruguay and in part because of the location of the hill overlooking the confluence of two rivers -- "from the mount I see" --in Latin: Monte video
curerivervoice 1 month ago
@curerivervoice It's actually supposed to mean "I see the mount" (Montem video). There are other theories on how the Uruguayan capital got its name based on different documents, but this one, I believe, is the best one.
ParnasoOriental 1 month ago
mathiass0943 1 month ago
@curerivervoiceNo,its not from latin .Nobody know exactly but May be from Portuguese. MONTE VIDE EU>..or other version .MONTE VI(SIX IN ROMAN NUMBERS) FROM EAST TO WEST..(IN SPANISH DE ESTE A OESTE)..Resultando de esta forma Monte sexto de este a oeste. MONTE VI DEO
