  • good good very nice but i have one suggestion...MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awe-some & then- some

  • i saw.someday ill get better in the dscription.and i was like...here we go :/..

then you started playing and i was lik :[==========]

    oh my good god

your rock man \m/..canait till you get better lol

  • How you likin the concert toms?

  • great speed man. that doest come from 1 day to another... good stuff man

  • damb your set has some girth to it. she looks shweet!!

  • Beautiful set up

  • Sounds great !!!! I wish I could play that good !!

  • Whew! Thought you were going to keel over and have a Heart Attack . By 1:30 you appear to be in sheer agony... might want to lay off of the twinkies and ho hos...LOL

  • @2394locke Lets see you play that good

  • Love that old 70's tom sound. Brings back a wave of great memories.

  • Nice!!!

    That was cool and clean!

    Love that set up too!

  • really good, WELL DONE! it would have been amazing if it there was some mics!

  • UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a good job man...very good sound ,need some mics....

  • You've certainly got ideas. I'd like to see what you could pull off with a kick, snare and a hi-hat. Cause, at the beginning you were laying down a pretty good start to a sick groove man. Clearly not a thought out thing, but oh well it sounded pretty decent to me.

  • sounds good to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well done

  • sounds ok to me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well done

  • @2:20 you can actually see his hand around his cock

  • sweet snare

  • @ndhudecz thanks bud! it's actually a crusty old premier from the late 60's.. the re-rings are cracked and glued back and i just refinished it in glass glitter to match my main kit - it has old Ludwig standard lugs and strainer and unknown die cast hoops ! sounds even better know with an evans power center head.

  • I spy something White.

  • Dude, you play fucking awesome! This is probably the best rock/metal solo on youtube thats not from a professional drummer. Slayer's first 3 records were recorded with this same kind of concert tom set up and sound. And thats cool, but... I personally would love to hear you on a double headed kit. mic'd even! RAD.

  • Sounds great but your toms sound like hitting a milk carton

  • all flash no substance

  • @jett9918635 thanks! that was the goal....

  • love ur kit man nice 70s sound looks like and early eric carr drum set used in a german promo clip in 1979 .... keep rocking bro!!

  • Hello what skins are you using can these concert tom sound like metallica toms? Even if theirs are double sided?

  • @jcer93705 hey man, sorry for the delay..been on the road...for this I had remo pinstripes with 1" sound rings in place - nice dull thud..hard to get the metallica boom with single heads unless of course your micing. If you had concert toms and wanted that kind of sound I would try evans hydraulics or maybe the new remo powerstrokes - something with built in rings - theres so many head out now...who knows might might be the magic combo!

  • @bubbawad

Thank you yea I'm not sure i'm going to get the tama set after all but like i said I'm not sure. So much problems that causing me to bust out $ dinero. LOL but yet my brother has a ludwig vista lite which was mine couple years ago and is setup as concert tom I remember putting shirt to add some muffleing but you got you're tama sounding good. Are you happy with you're setup? And thank for replying :).

  • @bubbawad I absolutely love concert toms! I have that exact set, and im playing them right now. and the new Remo powerstrokes are defiantly the way to go. i just bought a set of them and they are, hands down the best bass heads I've ever played.Evans Hydraulics are awsome heads too. I have a set of ludwig blue oyster pearls with em' and they sound amazing, but needless to say i dont play those much due to how much they are worth. KEEP ROCKIN' THE CONCERT TOMS!!!

  • @jcer93705 I think up till "..and justice for all" lars used concert tom setup, with remo pinstripes and dampening rings. Then from there on he had same skins and rings except with had bottom heads. If the drums in the video were mic'ed up with the MD421's lars used in his concert tom days they could defenitly sound like the "Metallica Drums."

  • Love the concert toms! I think it's time for them to be popular again.

  • this is awesome! keep it up :D

also, just out of curiosity, what cymbals were you using here?

  • @matttylergoldbloom Thanks man! i really gott a make a new video! I believe I had up at the time 17 & 19 zildjian rock crashes an 18 medium thin all from the 80's or so - ride is an old Sabian 22" prototype from the early 80's...one of the 1st sabians out there as well as mid 80's 22" sabian china

  • hey mike portnoy :D:D ...the first part is from his solo...lol

  • @tonicreflex what solo? send me a link - I am not familiar...

  • Hey, you said someday you'll get better. What are you talking about? You are very good and i agree with jordan. by the way can u take a look at my videos? Thanks, LongShotPictures

  • Thank you for being as good as your drum set. what i mean is, a guy with this many drums better be really good, other wise he's just showing off trying to look really good via bug drum sets. So im a harsh critic when guys play big sets, but you're really good. Kudos on this.

  • @JordanLThompson Thanks Jordan - great comment and much appreciated! I agree with you totally (not about me, but that many people use way more drums than needed and cymbals too) I would never take that thing out of the house - it was just the realization of a childhood dream for my own amusement- I play out with a 4 piece kit and three cymbals max... rock on!

  • Or you can just buy two drumsets..

  • How much were your concert toms? I've been trying to get an expansion on my drum set, but I can't find any at my local music stores. And where I can find them they're frigging expensive.

  • @PhilConey1 hey man - I actually bagged that whole set on ebay a few years ago for 650! 500 cash and a used rack unit with reverb to b exact. But yeah normally they're very expensive. This set was from early 80's - then I sold them for 1200 - wish I had kept them!

  • Fellow Octoplus owner!!! - great sound. I've got the blue vistalites so I don't get the deep warm sound.

  • @alrisden thanks bud! I have never had the chance to play vista's...always wanted a set!!

  • @alrisden If I ever get the money, i'd REALLY like to build a replica of the original octoplus, Hal blaines spun fiberglass monster with the blue sparkle ludwig 4 piece at the center. Great job and great sound.

  • @GarrettBray7 you mean the end?? I don't hear it - probably holding my breath while I set up the stupid cam.. I have a habit of not breathing while I am tinkering with stuff! glad you enjoyed my heavy breathing you perv! ;-)

  • I'd like to see concert toms com back.

  • Timbale?

  • are these for sale? i saw the identical ones for sale on craigslist

  • the infamous OCTA-PLUS!!

complete kits like this are becoming nearly extinct, everyone is being split up on ebay.

by the way, six and eight inch concert toms Rule!!

  • @bubbawad ...nevermind ..saw your other vid..pinstripes with sound rings...you're a really good player man!..keep it up..

  • @bubbawad what type heads are on the toms here....great playing by the way!

  • you need bottom heads man jesus

  • @TobacCigO why? these drums are concert toms and produce the classic 70's sound they were made for. Perhaps you should educate yourself on classic gear instead. my other 6 kits have double sided toms if that pleases you. I don't understand your page...are you even old enough to smoke? WTF????

  • @bubbawad

listen man dont worry about my page - i just thought you didnt know what you were doing, and its obvious to me now that you do sorry man

  • @TobacCigO Cool man! All's good!

  • Comment removed

  • Im a big fan of open tomz, you dont see enuf of em theze dayz, they sound so dramatic, EPIC!, great solo 2 bro really showed off the sound of the kit perfectly :)

  • @scottjinx thanks man! Much appreciated!

  • i could make all those drums come to better use

  • @drummerboyandrew1 you're welcome to come and try...do you have any videos to share?

  • No resonant heads? I wouldn't do it on my kit but the way you've done it gives your drums a really unique sound!

  • blah

  • nice concert toms! epic

  • eh, a lot of ppl can do tht, double bass and tom rolls are not impressive, lets see some sweet shit, i know you can

  • NEEDS MOAR COWBELL!

  • fucking epic.

  • Wow, open-back toms! I haven't seen a pair of those in... welll.... ever. Everyone seems to use head-back toms now.

  • Well, i think with a bit more practice,,,,,,,, dont like the sound of concert toms though, i'd like to hear all that again but with standard toms,,,

  • You're. . . amazing dude.

  • You are one of the best drummers I've seen on youtube, this is beyond impressive...

  • @DiobloHunter wow! thanks bro!

  • dude it looks like lars's tama he used on the justice tour in '88

  • that solo was actually kinda cool i liked it. especially the bursts on bass drum before you hit the snare after a tom riff

  • Wow. Nice feet. And hands. Lol.

  • "Someday, I'll get better"? What are you talking about? Man! You have great feet and great "chops". That snare work is fantastic, not to mention the toms! I love the sound of single headed toms--especially Ludwig's! You're GREAT!

  • Omg... at :59 i felt like i was gonna get rick rolld for a second.. :/

  • it reminds me a lot of Lars Ulrich, Metallica's Drummer, old drum set back in their concerts in the early 90's

  • all u have to do is get ALOT of drum mics and it will sound legit!

  • that's just sick...

  • dudeeeee. epic.

  • black kit more big :D

  • a minute forty nine solo and your out of breath, not a good thing.

  • @Jimmy1tooth :-) sucks being fat and old....

  • @bubbawad dont worry i`m with you on that

  • would love to play wont get fooled again on this baby!

  • nice kit it loks like lars ulrich from metallica during the and justice for all tour

  • @metallica1252 Lars's kit was a granstar II and had black lugs and finishes. and his kit didnt have two mini concert toms above the hi-hat, but I know what you mean.

  • 4 stars!?! This is awesome, people are weeeeeeeird.

  • Which heads are you using on your toms?

The REMO Controlled Sound with black dots?

Sounds great and you`re a great drummer! :D

  • Thank you bud! the heads on the toms here were all remo pinstripes with a 1" sound ring on top...nice fat thud! Camera doesn't do them justice!

  • @bubbawad

    Ah thank you :D

    Love concert toms :O

Peter Criss is my favorite drummer...

and he used concert toms, and the sound is just awersome!

  • wow, impressive kit. nicely done by the way how long have you been playing??

  • Thanks man, I started playing when iwas 4 or 5 'cause my older bro had a kit. I played for hours a day into my teens and in high school...took a few years off for college and my playin was never the same again...I swear I peaked when iwas 14-15!!! or so it seems..i probably sucked but didn't know it!

  • oh so to finish answering your ? - I am 40 now so about 35 years with a couple breaks along the way - this vid was shot right when I picked it up again after being away from drums for 5 years or so...

  • lol you're amazing. someday i hope to be as good as you.

  • shit nice kit huh and it looks like lars ulrich kit around the 80's and 90's with those large rack toms and how it is white

  • dude! i was thinking the same thing hahaha your right

  • The octa plus looks cool, and I wanted one as a kit. I recently had a similar tama outfit. To be honest, I got sick of the single-headed concert tom thuddieness and lack of tone.

  • exellent drum work!!! your what i call a drummers drummer. nice kit of course, and technique!

  • what kind of kit do you have now?

  • hey bud. well until recently I had 8 kits..sold most of them. My main kit now is pretty sick custom Ludwig's that I modified myself: I have 3 bass drums to choose from depending on mood/gig: 22x24,22x20,14x24 7 toms: 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18 toms..plus 2 new shallow toms: 7x12 and 7.5x13 all in silver glass glitter..I usually play out with only 4 or 5 piece kit though. I also have a silver sparkle vintage 5 pc kit of mixed drums with a 26" kick. and some old Ludwig Standards in ruby strata

  • I also have 2 old custom kick drums in black I made when I was like 14 - both 22x22 and a full set of roto toms that go over them...see other vid's of mine...there's one where I am goofing around on it but had a few concert toms thrown in too... I have a few more spare bass drums laying around and a pink camo ddrum punx set for my daughter! :-)

  • you should post a tour vid of that huge kit

  • this was totally kick ass

  • watching that vid made me have a little spasm!

  • Very nice, man !!

  • OK..........Now you have to do a Vid on your speed work with behind the kit footage.

  • Really Cool Dude. Keep on jammin.

  • Nice drumming. I swear I hear the opening of THREE'S COMPANY lol

  • Thanks man! too funny! perfect retro sound reference!!!!

  • how does it feel to have the nicest kit on youtube???????

  • :-) It was nice until I sold it! Now some lucky e-bayer has the nicest kit! Thanks though!

  • lol nice reminds of some Peter Criss's sets!!!!

  • Classic kit. Great hands and feet.

  • Great job! 5 stars. Big kits are so much fun. And I still love the sound of the single-head toms--more cleanly melodic than the ringing you sometimes get from the double heads. But I own both, so double heads are cool too. Can't believe you sold these. Keep posting!

  • Well, we all lose endurance over time....even the Greats !!! but you still got the speed. Well done !!!

  • wicked playing, didn't expect it. If you got on a more traditional kit (bottom heads) it would take your sound home.

  • Again, Sounds Really Good Bro....

  • man....this is great...

  • needs more cow bell!!

  • Awesome set! That was an insane solo!

  • i love these drum sets man they sound awsome when there mic up under each concert toms i love kits with concert toms i had a 82 imperial tama and figging sounded awsome but ludwigs back then were the best too me love too own one

  • AMAZING

  • man you are a fucking pro and your drumset is fucking great

  • thanks bud!

  • sweet video, whats the purpose of keeping the toms open?

  • Thanks man! It gives a dry sound, easier tuning for pitch, in this case a full octave with the 8 concert toms...I prefer double headed but these have an umistakable 70's sound! A lot easier to mic up too!

  • I miss the 70's drum sets! I had one like yours but in red. I should NEVER traded my 1973 Ludwig for a fucking flashy silver Pearl set while i was playing in a glam HAIR METAL band in the 80's! Damn!

  • Ha! I put black and white strips on another kit during the 80's!!! How goofy were we?!

  • Let me guess? You were copying it from the drummer of Quiet Riot when Metal health came out in 1983 with that video of him playing behind the black and white striped drumset....right???

  • EXACTLY!~ :-)

  • BANG YOUR HEAD!

  • wow you guys should totally date

  • too funny!!!! :---)

  • Wanna join us? Need a hole to fill in??

  • I have a girlfriend!! She's at band camp and this is all I can do right now. Haha.

  • Holy crap that looked like mine @ first, i have an identical kit, it was well used in the 80s when i got it.

  • very very nice man

    that was sick :D

  • i love this drum

  • If I had a set like that I'd never leave the house.

  • Thnaks Man! Ludwig Octoplus Outfit from the late 70's. They were about 2500.00 back then. I bagged this one on ebay a few years ago for 650! It was in a garage all in cases untouched for years but a little beat up...sold this baby about a year ago for 1200. the 2 24" kicks sounded AWESOME with emad2 heads...can't beat a 24 with an emad! It's like magic. The concert toms are 6,8,10,12,13,14,15,16 & 18 double headed floor

  • insane drummin and nice set too. how much was your set if you dont mind? that monster must have been expensive..

  • you say you want to get a better recording of these bad boys. idea. bring them to my house and i shall help you hahaha lol

  • Oh man, If I sitll had them I would~!! I need to make a new video someday soon!

  • damm i love your drum kit look like the drum kit from eric carr the ex drummer from kiss ;-)rock on:-)

  • Love Eric Carr! Saw him with Kiss many years ago of course..he started out with this same kit only in silver wrpa and then later moved up to depper, double headed toms and of course mega cannon bass drums...he is trhe reason I started making monster bass drums back in the ealry 80's by joining two shells togther..my main kit uses a custom ludwig 22 head by 24 deep that kills! beautiful Black Vistalite kit on ebay right now, check it out - search under ludwig in the 2500.00 range.

  • do you have a rack keeping the toms up? looks kinda like they're just floating there.

  • no, the 6 inch thru 14 are mounted on the original clip mounts (two posts off the BD's and one floor stand over the high hat. The 15 & 16 inch toms are mounted on a floor stand but use standard Lud post mounts for better positioning...very tough to fit it all together though and keeps things nice and close the way I like....the 15 & 16 are a bit hard to reach! peace!!!

  • Ha! Thanks Mike! I love the way you put that!

  • dude's just poppin some wheelies for the cam, nothing structured, nice attack, too bad your not in Daytona.

  • Good, but too much of the repeated high-to-low tom usage.

  • wat the hell do you mean he sucks, this guys great. he doesnt even say "this is a great drum solo, i spent alot of time working on it" or anything like that

  • lol pat this is why i love you

  • lawlmower

  • dude nice playing and a SICK kit too! looks like fun to play!

  • u suck but its a nice drum set

  • Thanks Travis! :-)

  • man is that set for fucking real?!?!? man that looks sick....

every metal drummer's dream, including me...lol...keep it up dude...killer set man..

  • Dude I have an eight piece kit and only use 1 of my snares, 1 bass drum, 1 tom, and the 2 floor toms.

  • As Bob Weir said - "too much of everything is just enough"

I use a 5 piece for the road - one up two down...much easier to lug around too!

  • That's just way too many toms.

  • u obviously know nothing about drums, u can NEVER have to much of ANYTHING

  • exactly - hi buddy!

  • sounds abit like joey jordison

  • ur freakin awesome

  • Musiuka wrote: hi, what is the difference in sound with concert toms and regular toms? - the answer is single heads are much drier sounding and focused. no resonance or boom. More of a dull thud...seventies sounding. They have a lot of overtone so I am using 2 ply pinstripe heads as well as muffle rings. Th emuffle rings are key for a more full sound.

  • when did u buy these bad boys

  • I bought these on ebay about 5 years ago...for dirt cheap, nearby so I could pick them up too! SOld them about a year ago. There in WI now... :-( Someday I'll get another Octo...

  • oh my god, the kick drums on that thing are orgasmic! what heads did you have on them?

  • Oh man if only you could actually hear them...my camera sucks!! They were so awesome (sold them a while ago). Evans Emad's front and rear. i got them from D'Addario Music to try out - fell in love. After I sold these I was so dissappointed not having a 24 that I bought an old marching bass on ebay for 30 bucks..added legs and an emad and presto - there is something magical about a 24 with emad...tried emads on my 22's and it's just not the same. 24's rule!

  • wow, I was never really partial to evans heads, but after hearing this i've reconsidered! by the way, do you happen to know whether your set was a 6-ply or 3-ply?

  • nice kit?? nice kit and player. good job!

  • nice kit!

  • What heads are you using on your toms? Those things have a great "DUGGA DUH-GAH" going on. And i'm personally liking the whole single head thing. The toms definitely have a unique sound to them.

  • Hey thanks!! I like the way you put that...dugga duh-gah...it's almost like durkha durkha! At the time I had new Remo Pinstripes on all toms with 1" muffle rings laying on top except the 6 inch. My camera sucks and they sounded pretty full to my ear behind the kit for only singles - the kicks were incredible! 24 inchers..both with Emad2's!

  • FINOWA wrote: man, your kit sounds fantastic! i really dig that classic ludwig sound. also, to that one mong who complained about syncronizing vids, youtube tends to fuck some formats up completely, throwing the audio and video out of sync. cheers to you sir!

I went to right thank you and clicked on remove by accident! - thanks FINOWA

  • awesome, but why dont you have bottom heads? awesome cool!!!! nice stuff man, make more vids :)

  • Thanks man - read back a bit into the comments for the full story on this kit (I'm lazy and don't feel like writing it again! :-)

  • This is a Ludwig Octoplus Outfit from the late 70's. Back then they were about 2500.00. I bagged this one on ebay a few years ago for 650! It was in a garage all in cases untouched except the snare...the bonham stainless/chrome 6.5x14 was not in a case and all pitted...but it sounds amazing. I sold this baby (kept the snare) a year ago for about 1200. the 2 24" kicks sounded AWESOME with emad2 heads...can't beat a 24 with an emad! It's like magic. The toms are 6,8,10,12,13,14,15,16 & 18 floor
