Big thing is that all the players are on one server then.

EVE runs on a super cluster (in fact I believe it's the single largest cluster in the worls at the moment in the public sector. It's also one of the largest implementations (again I believe) of solid state disks.

Think of a cluster as a way to share parts of eve. 10 powerful servers are doing one thing, while another group do something else, and another group something else etc etc etc....

Unlike other games, every person in this game, on one server, is on ONE server, with 10000 CPUs!

Well, it is nowhere near such numbers. More like 200 CPUs [not cores] as a whole. They cannot justify so much expanses on cluster, when software architecture would make workload somewhere around 5 % :D

But they are still in the process of core rewrites, so one day, it will be possible to have one solar system shared by multiple cores, and that day will be beginning of the new EVE.

@Marcurus As of today, it still is not possible and CCP made every effort possible to push even more against software "wastes"... from modules cycling to fighter bombers killing the server for no apparent reason, or moving away from sol node non necessary stuff (ie:pilot show info).

I am fairly sure they will manage to gain some more CPU somewhere :)

But sure the lack of new super high Mhz processors from CPU founders is a problem as long as EvE engine cannot handle multiple cores for one node

The planatary stuff is in CCPs 'want to do' list and wont be comming out for a while. Then Eve was just a twinkle in CCPs eye the game designers envisioned eve 2 have 3 main parts 2 it, Space, Walking in stations and flying into planatary orbit/player controlled planets.

Due 2 money/time contraints they only did the space part. and now they r building the rest of what the envisioned originally. Unfortunatly its gonna been a long wait untill eve is 'finished'

Very nice video of *some* EVE play, I guess showing four mins of mining asteroids wouldn't have appealed as much. I don't mean to bash the game but getting to some pvp in that game is the real problem (~video). It literally takes months on end to be remotely competitive and most of that time is spent with staring at the screen doing nothing. Still has some great concepts in the game.

EVE Online is a space based MMO. It is very complex and has a steep learning curve, but it also deeper and more interesting than any other MMO out there. For newbies, EVE University is a good corp to start with.
