yes i agree....chinese are scumbags. i live in HK and and i have been to Macau and china several times.....YES they are shameless people who just care about money and themselves and have no consideration for others and will do the ugliest thing for a bit of money. BUT........in this case....42 RMB...sounds normal.

In china if you say "legally he shouldnt drive if his meter is not working, ppl will laugh at you." this aint the west. its CHINA.....ppl do anything and the police dnt give a shit cuz the police are poorer themselves. 42 RMB sounds reasonable if you were gonna be in his taxi for like say.....25 minutes. the guy wasnt trying to con you.

Legally he's not allowed to operate his cab if the meter doesn't work.
Also, he wanted to get the USD because it's worth around 7 RMB.
Always use a taxi in China with a working (and accurate) meter.
I lived in Shenyang China and let me tell you, money is the religion of China.
I had a great time living there though, you just have to keep your wits because they will always try and rip you off.
