because it will inevitably lead to totalitarianism (dont believe me? pick up a history book, and especially read speeches and quotes by people who have actually lived in a socialist government). and your ability to post your videos and your freedom of speech rights will be flushed away.
You only dont find a problem with it because you're just a spoiled American. why do think people have fled their countries to come here to avoid it?
Obama is being controlled by the multinationals. He sold his soul for power just like presidents before him. The multinationals finance both parties and in this election they are supporting Obama more than Mccain.
I will protect American interests wouldnt that be life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all men, they don't talk about the problems our economy really faces or real solutions and keep America weak & divided. Why dont they stop trampling on the constitution? Is this really a choice?
I realized the democrats and republicans have given us the lesser of two evils again. Therefore I use the word republicrat/demoocan to describe Mcbama. Barak the Marxist or McCain the warmonger. Violence here and/or abroad hmmm. I looked at their agendas and realized that they are the same. Keep the unconstitutional patriot act, keep our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan, keep spending money abroad, police the world, oppress Iran and the middle east (why dont they start with dictatorships)
"The audacity of retroactive immunity for gigantic telecom monopolies". What happened to hope? This is almost enough to make me bail on the whole Obama thing. I can't vote for McCain but maybe I won't vote for this guy either.

It is currently the 4th or 5th largest group on his personal social network, make it #1 and see if he really pays attention to any of the people who got him the nomination.
Thought we could count on Obama to stand up for our rights. The 94 House Dems who switched got @ $5,000 more than the Dems who did'nt. PLEASE call your Senators. Maybe we should take up a collection-lol
i would have to agree with you. the way i see it that is the way the game is played (saddly). he is going to become pres. so lets see what he will do once he is in office. but as americans we had a chance to pick a better canidate. and there where better canidates. we are condition by the media to think this is the best we have (not true).
There's one answer to this problem -- Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr. He was a leader in Clinton's impeachment, and now he says that Bush is worse. Only, Congress has so failed in its oversight function, we lack good evidence to impeach.
He makes a strong and thoughtful case against the Bush admin.
"Rep. Heather Wilson, R-N.M., that says Obama tells women who have questions about his record and his campaign to 'get over it.' "Working women in New Mexico are worried that Obama has yet to come up with a plan to lower gas prices -- we won't just 'get over it.' Obama has put New Mexico jobs at risk with his economic plan and tax increases on small businesses -- we won't just 'get over it.' "I'm supporting John McCain" Newsweek
I think if you look at the ratings you'll find that Americans care very much about debates. It's Ralph Nader they don't care about. Nader made it clear when he knee-capped Al Gore in the 2000 election by refusing to drop out (even when it was clear he didn't have a prayer) that he was a traitor to the Democratic cause who was only out for his own self-aggrandizement. Now he is a joke and an object of well-earned contempt.
Naders support is silenced and underestimated. He's polling towards 6 % heading towards 10%, which is a greater % than 2000 when he only got 3% of the popular vote. His campaign is doing a great job on youtube in encouraging free online activism to get the word out.
Debates are popular but issues appear not to be. Look up the Nader campaign youtube video of what he calls off the table issues in the election entitled:
First of all, FUCK YOU. She can sleep for a month and not leave her house, and your fat ass should have NOTHING to say about it.
Your messiah Obama was the one who took a vacation DURING the primary season. I'd like to see you campaign for a year and a half and see how you feel. I'm surprised she made it out alive. God bless her. Don't be mad because he is a LIAR and a LOSER. Focus on Obama. You got him, why aren't you happy yet?
Yeah, Pointybongo, I said the exact same thing. I was a big fan of Obama too. Now I just figure we should vote for him as the obvious lesser of two evils. Vertigate, you make a good point, too. Cenk Uygur says exactly what I've been thinking. Good job, Cenk!
Obama's just a corporatist phony like the rest of them. And it hurts me to say that-- I was a huge supporter until Friday, when he came out in favor of the Bush/Hoyer FISA "Compromise". Thanks alot Barack. here's a new slogan for you: "Capitulation We Can Believe In"
I supported the Democrats until that AIPAC speech.
Ralph Nader 2008.
Google said that they try to arrage a Presidential debate for Nader to participate in whilst the rest of the corporate media is blocking him out. can't wait for him to confront them on these off the table issues.
Here is your probably flawed premise. Obama is NOT the guy who runs the Senate. There is still a guy called Harry Reid and he is Senate Majority leader. Remember when it was reported in the news how Obama had words with Lieberman and the next day Reid came out backing Lieberman. Obama would be nuts to risk an internal power struggle in the Senate or push filibusters while he is on his feet 20 hours a day running for president. He's just not in the position to do that.
Once again, the choice is for the lesser of evils. Every four years for four decades, I've thought it could not possibly get any worse, and every time I have been wrong.
Hilary does nothing but want a title - for the pure sake of power. Click on my name for more -- she should be no where near the White House, and certainly not VP.
Without compromise, no legislation can get passed in a non-veto-proof congress!
No one got killed or injured with this immunity argument; so this is not something worth clogging up the government over.
Leave the shutting down of the government to the repugnant Republicans
Now that the loopholes are being closed &the Telecom companies have been made to squirm, there isn't the likelihood that they would again support bugging without court order.
Just wondering why do most people avoid the other party's are the any less capable what do you think would happen if people voted for bob bar ?or some of the other candidates ?
I am just as disgusted by this bunch of compromised politicians as you are. This immunity question is crucial and it exposes precisely where the real power sits.
The ONLY candidate left out of the few (Paul, Kucinich and Gravel) that will end not only the Iraq war but will ALSO END THE OCCUPATION IN IRAQ which 70% of Iraqi's support according to Democracy Now.
Mcain will continue both wars, Obama wil end Iraq war but redeploy many troops from Iraq to Afghanistan, and Obama and McCain WILL CONTINUE THE OCUPATION INIRAQ.
Watch Obama's interview with Amy Goodmen on youtube video entitled: "Amy puts Obama in the hot-seat!!"
TYT, Don't understand your philosophy on this subject. Before Obama clinched the Democratic nomination you were so much behind him on all his speeches and were gung ho for his endorsement. Now you are second guessing him on his credibility and qualifications on leadership, go figure! I agree 100% with you on Hillary and she is a washed up political figure and can take her politics back to New York and the Senate where she belongs.
Obama's position as leader of the DNC is a meaningless title at this time. Of course, it is a necessary position to help him secure the Presidency, raising additional campaign funds and being the DNC figurehead. But this position is based solely on him securing office.
If he loses this election (which I doubt) will you say? (if he went after BUSH) well at least he got BUSH. In truth, any hearing for BUSH will not be implemented within the next 5 mths.
Hey TYT, Obama has to pick the battles he can win to gain the Presidency before the election. Going straight after BUSH will harm him NOW. Why? Because the system of government that he is hoping to change is the system in place NOW !! Do not be caught up in this immunity thing as it is a minor distraction which will take his eye of the ball. I understand your criticisms about Obama's leadership and I hope when he takes office ths will be revisited. But lets get him in office first. ps..BIG FAN
I primaries are over, Fataturk. The moonbats on the extreme Left have served their purpose, and it's time for Obama to move towards the center in hopes of actually getting elected to the presidency. The Lefists have been duped once again, just as they were in the '06 elections. What a bunch of saps. I suggest you guys take out your frustrations by voting for Ralph Nudder...again, and again, and again. LOL!
I wonder if you think you're funny. Because you sound like some hick from the Appalachians who happens to have a computer. You think the left are "saps"? Well, I guess it's better than being a group of idiots locked in step with those craven blood suckers of the Republican party, and to choose the lesser evil, so long as we're stuck in this flawed, outdated democracy.
Judging from your dubious moniker, you're quite possibly from another mountainous region of the world--the tribal regions of northern Pakistan, perhaps. It's not uncommon for the mujihideen to turn to one another for sexual comfort during jihad. Somtimes local animals will be employed to provide sexual relief during a time of holy war. Luckily, all these behaviors are sanctioned in the Koran.
Actually, I'm an atheist from New York, but nice try, you ignorant, pathetic racist. In fact, I'm so American, that even if the muhajideen surrounded your houses and were holding you and your sister and the retarded children you had together captive, I'd still advocate a degree of negotiations to save your sorry ass.

George Soros uses 527s to support Obama-> Moveon. Soros began making purchases of Halliburton stock in the third quarter of 2005. He accelerated his buying in the fourth quarter of 2006, when the stock was trading near its low ($26.33) of the last four years. His purchase prices were between $27.62 and $33.53, with an estimated average price of $31.3. As of 12/31/06, Soros owned 1,999,450 shares, more than 2% of his total portfolio, making Halliburton his hedge funds' biggest investment of 2006.
The reason why the Democrats are supporting the bill is because it is the RIGHT thing to do. Ultimately we need to be able to intercept communication from terrorists overseas into this country. No one is harmed by this except the terrorists.
Vote Nader 08'. The only candidate left out of the few (Paul, Kucinich and Gravel) that will end not only the Iraq war but ALSO END THE OCCUPATION IN IRAQ which 70% of Iraqi's support according to Democracy Now.
McCain is a warmonger that will continue to burn the candle both ends in 2 wars. And Obama will redeploy troops from Iraq to Afghainistan and WILL CONTINUE OCCUPATION in Iraq.
Watch Obama's interiview with Amy Goodman,on youtube video called:
Obama .. is trying to appeal to the moderate democrats & the leaning repubs ... he can't win with just the liberal votes .. It's about winning the G.E .. he can easily do something to this bill when he is President ...
If he didn't vote for it .. he would have been bashed by the Republicans ... they would all say he is weak on terrorism .. and this would just strengthen their claim on him having little no no foreign experience .. TO ME HE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE ...
Barack Obama is constantly getting attacked by John Mccain and Hilliary Clinton is trying to campaign with him in order help him become president.
Personally I think they have their hands too full to be fighting and worrying about a man who is on his way out of the white house. Let some other Democrat take on George Bush. Obama FULL attention needs to be on beating John Mccain.
LIVES are at stake if he don't win this election. Another 4 years of war will cost THOUSANDS of more TROOPS lives!
Obama supporters really need to get informed. He says he'll end the war, but then the fineprint is that he'll redeploy those troops to Afghanistan, and WILL NOT END THE OCCUPATION IN IRAQ, which 70% of Iraq's support according to Democracy Now.
Watch Obama's interiview with Amy Goodman as proof, on youtube video called:
"Amy puts Obama in the hot-seat!!"
If you really care about the troops lives not being at risk because of resistance to occupation, you must vote for Ralph Nader.

John McCain stood up to Bush's handling of the war. At least he's smart, and has integrity. That's why Hillary Clinton supporters are now voting for him.
Smart, and has integrity. Sheesh. Time to watch something besides Fox News, huh? Unfortunately for McCain, the world is no longer a place where a controlled media has the final say. People learn the truth on the net. That is why - sorry to say - McCain is currently polling low. The funny thing is that even if the guy actually did have brains and integrity, rather than lacking them utterly, he'd still lose because the world is sick of neocons and an economy that's in the toilet.
TOP TEN REASONS TO VOTE OBAMA 10. His Preacher is always Wright 9. His friends are handy with explosives 8. Your fav Hollywood Star loves him 7. He Hates his ole white Gramma 6. He will tax the crap outta "rich dudes" makin over $50K a yr 5. He will open up the Mexican Border and give Amnesty to all 4. He will allow foreigners to dictate US Policy 3. He will make Ebonics the 1st Language 2. He will give minorities lots of free stuff 1. Being unpatriotic will be cool!
Neither Hillary nor Barack are about change. They are about ego and having doors opened for them (different video). They support the military industrial complex, and collectivist economics, and totalitarian control of the citizens.
demcorats and republicans are moving scaredly closer...they will become so centirsit you wont be abel to tell the difference b/w them.....that why cenk you should vote Libertarian or green....i am more for the liberatarian but they nominated the worse candiate (bob barr)...so thats why my support is to ralph nader (protest vote)
BO has to play in the middle to get elected. If a majority americans were "rebelious" like Cenk than yes BO would fight to impress them. But majority is not Cenk, majority are pussies.
What would matter is does he really deliver after getting elected on the real issues and that we will have to wait and see.
UNtill then I will take his politics of playing in the middle than neocons running the country and Cenks dream will have to wait.
The media isn't doing it's job in making people aware Obama will NOT WITHDDAW ALL troops from Iraq.People need to know what they're voting 4 & they're being decieved.
He'll end war,yet will REDEPLOY many troops from Iraq into afghanistan & even Pakistan & will maintain a force in Iraq or Kuwait as he says so HE WILL NOT END THE OCCUPATION OF IRAQ!
O come on! Obama is still a junior senator. He does not have that kind of clout in the senate yet. If he loses the Presidency he goes back to his junior senator seat - just like Clinton, just like Kerry. There's so much going on here that you don't understand and you are just blowing some hot air!
I don't know what to think about this. I like Obama but when I first heard about the vote, I thought to myself "where the hell is Obama". I guess I'm sort of torn on his position whether to back it and play to the middle and piss off some liberals or take a strong stand against the right. I don't know, I mean i know in his heart he is against it being a constitutional lawyer, but if he doesn't back it he could get pounded by the fear mongorers it's a tough call.
I like the young turks, but they JUMPING TOO FAST ON THIS ONE. Obama had to win the nomination and then he has to win the presidential election. THEN he can take the lead of the democratic party. How was he suppose to take the lead when the party was divided because Hilliary refusal to drop out of the race. Give Obama a chance.
Hold your judgement on what kind of leader Barack Obama is until AFTER he is president.
Don't worry about it, everyone in the Lib world has been up at arms about this all day. Honestly I think Cenk is naive in thinking Obama has such power within the Dems. He may be the Pres. Nominee but in Congress and within the party Reid/Pelosi and a lot of others hold way more than the junior senator. There is honestly enough "Blue Dogs" who were voting for it no matter what he would have said.
Cenk, Obama tried to lead by principals hardcore before the Iraq War. He also lead on PAC donations too. That said, I do agree he should take the regins and run with them, but on the other hand, doing so pits him against Reid and Pelosi who have taken the only logical conclusion to the issues you are referring to off the table, that being impeachment hearing(s). In terms of bills, it'll be tough to get elected by strongarming the legislation on big issues like you are asking him to.
The fact is that this isn't how it works. Obama isn't even close to being the most powerful person in the senate. Hell Polisi is far more powerful in the senate than Obama.
Anyway I think you guys are making way to big of an issue about it. What did you guys expect? Also if you'd notice all the add ons to the law that past that it actually puts a lot of benefits towards the troops. Learn how the system works Obama is the presidential candidate and has a lot of time to work on campaign financing
About time you have seen the light, Cenk. You've been kissing Obama's ass for the longest time. I've been against McCain, Clinton, and Obama. Yes, he says the right things, but he's just all talk. He's a conformist and a corporate candidate.
Cenk, I may be mistaken but the HOUSE passed the FISA bill, not the Seanate which Hillary and Barack are members. The Senate passed a bill that got 67 votes months ago. Leadership, until Barack get elected (BIG IF), Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi run congress. Stop clouding the issues!! Yes the DEMS are weak but they always been weak. Nothing new. We just need them to push the country back to the center. Center left from my perspective
Yes, but Barack has the juice now that he doesn't have to follow Reid's weak leadership. I think the Senate is going to vote again next week on their version of this. Barack could do any of the moves Cenk suggests if he really wanted to go to the mattresses on this.
You and Cenk are being idealistic. Our political system does not reward noble goals and the way Hillary ran to the center and won 9 of the last 13 conest proves that. To win, Barack has to move to the center because Liberalism in still a bad word. If not, McCain will win by a landslide. Like cenk says, we will vote for Dems no matter what, so why not run towards the center like Bush did in 2000 and once in power, he faithfully carried out the neocon agenda. We can do the same
flrbase1, it's not about idealism, it's about enforcing the crutches of American society: constitutional rights, and justice against those who try to take those rights away. That's not idealism, those were the foundations of American society until the Bush admin. C'mon, 10 years ago neocons were fighting for impeachment over a BJ; what Bush has done makes Nixon's Watergate look like Sesame Street. That isn't "idealism" that's American history, that's American justice, and now that's all gone.
Obama sent out a press release that he supports FISA, but he wants the amnesty and immunity provisions removed. House Majority Reid stated that he will work to have those removed before it hits the Senate for a vote. I agree, though, I think that Obama needs to vocally speak out against the FISA bill; it is disappointing, although I am still going to vote for Obama because McCain is worse.
Obama absolutely should be leading the charge. Not only that i sure would have liked to see him say something, anything, even one sentence on the recent motion for impeachment of Bush by Kucinich.
C'mon Obama show us you mean business! Speechs are great but SHOW us with ACTIONS you mean it.
I dont understand what Obama could have lost by uniting the Democrats and possibly waking up a few Republicans and fought this to the death!!
How could he have been hurt by defending the Constitution and supporting the Troops?
FUCK!! It probably would have helped him if he said that he was doing this in honor of the troops over in Iraq & Afghanistan all the way back to those that fought in the Revolution. Because those Revolutionaries fought against this!! Its like pissing on their graves.
Someone needs to contact Obama and make me his advisor. This could have been spun to put sooooo much mud on those Neo-Cons like Dubya. If Obama had made a speech explaining those talking points I just made then he'd have the election locked up already.
It's not like Obama doesn't have an audience. How many views has his speech on race issues gotten? So there's no way he would come out of this hurt politically.
I can't believe you were ever a Republican. You want Obama to win the battle but lose the war? I don't think so. I understand you're angry but Obama has consistently opposed crazy republican schemes. I want him to win. Yes I would love for him to take the high road but when you're a Black man name Barack Hussein Obama, labeled as inexperience and there is potential of Iranian wae...I don't think he should take the risk because your liberal feelings are hurt. Democrats are so reactionary
This is why we need independent candidates to run because the Democrats are taking votes for granted, compromising on principles yet expecting the left to vote for them because the only alternative is a Republican. They can;t condition their vote to hold them to any standaed. Lately many Obama supporters are saying that he keeps compromising, at what used to be a CHANGE campaign has evolved to a lesser of to evils campaign.
Dude, we lost the war. When you lose your basic human rights to privacy then everything else seems kind of shallow.
And don't anyone tell me that I'm not supporting the troops or whatever. What has happened is a disgrace to everyone that has worn a military uniform. Why? Because this is what George Washington and all of those in the Revolution fought against!!!
Everyone who voted for this bill should be impeached!! If not, I want to get 300 million people to storm DC!!!
Was there any one you like in this election like Ron Paul, Ralph Nader & Dennis Kucinich.
All against Patriot Act. All unambiguously for troop withdrawl from Iraq and were against Iraq war. Will cut military spending unlike the Democrats and Republicans promising to increase it. Kucinich and Nader stand for impeachment of Bush and Cheney holding them accountable for crimes commited in America's name that public didn't support. All against preemptive in Iran.
I liked Ron Paul. I heard Kucinich was good as well, but I actually didn't hear any of his stances.
At any rate, it was clear neither would win. We have many more years of horrible politicians making horrible mistakes. Companies own this country; whatever they want is what they get...And they do not want what is in our best interests.
On my favourites there's a video that gives a good summary of Kucinich's stances expressed during the debates (the one's they allowed him into).
You can still attend Ron Paul's convention. It still makes a statement in this election of which candidate you supported and the causes he supported that the Democrats and Republicans aren't addressing. Vote for an independent. There's choice of Ralph Nader and Bobb Barr. They're all paving way for a third party that is united on foreign policy.
Dude, we've already been down the Nader road. What did that get us? 8 fucking years of Bush.
So congrats, you're working for McCain by trying to steal votes from Dems you douchebag. If you really want to make a difference go spam the rightwingers with Nader's message.
Ralph Nader isn't stealing votes, he's EARNING them by not compromising principles.
Obama has lost credibility by running a campaign against "politicians that will say and do anything to win" only to find that he is one on them.
He said he would bring all trooops from Iraq home in 16 months, but the fineprint is he'll redeploy many to Afghanistan & WILL CONTINUE THE OCUPATION IN IRAQ.
Watch his inteview with Amy Goodmen on youtube video:
No, he's stealing votes from Obama. Bill Maher is a big BIG fan of Ralph Nader. He voted for him in 2000. But later on he got on his knees and begged Nader not to run in 2004. And I'm sure he still feels the same way with McNeoCon as the opponent.
A vote for Nader is a vote for McSame!! Unless you spend your time trying to get McSame voters to vote for Nader.
I'd love to vote for Nader but he's got zero chance at winning so I'm gonna do my part to make sure McSame doesn't win!!
Ron Paul as Republican ran on the same foreign policy platform as Ralph Nader, Kucinich & Grael. Even Bobb Bar running as an independent coonservative is taking votes from McCain whre he also runs on decreasing military spending.
When the supporters of Ron Paul merge with Ralph Nader it threatens both parities which why we are reaching out to them. Nader actually got more epublicans than Democrats in 2000.
Help Nader get on the debate & the state ballots at least.
I hope the democrats lose because they are cowards, corporate puppets, and back stabbers. They got elected to lead congress in 2006 and look at all the changes they have accomplished. NONE They continue to fund the imperialistic mass murder in Iraq. They have the power to end it right now, but they don't because they are liars, and corrupt just like the executive branch. Fuck the democrats. I hope they lose and I hope they get punished for their corruption and lies along with bush administration.
What could they do? Bush was going to veto anything the Dems tried and had the backing of nearly every Republican in Congress. And the Dems don't have the power to overide any vetos.
Granted, I'm not entirely thrilled with the way the Dems have behaved but they are clearly better than the alternative!!!
Tbh both suck but one is sucking knowingly the other one is crazy. I rather have a evil genius as a president than a crazy lunatic

Vote Ralph Nader 2008.
He is committed to holding Bush and Cheney accountable for their crimes.
Obama will lose to Nader if he gets on the debates as he is the genuine change whilst Obama is ambiguos rhetoric without action.
kkvh4026 3 years ago
as much as i would love nader to win, the american people don't have enough common sense to care about debates.
BMWpower335i 3 years ago
Thanks for replying.

Here is your probably flawed premise. Obama is NOT the guy who runs the Senate. There is still a guy called Harry Reid and he is Senate Majority leader. Remember when it was reported in the news how Obama had words with Lieberman and the next day Reid came out backing Lieberman. Obama would be nuts to risk an internal power struggle in the Senate or push filibusters while he is on his feet 20 hours a day running for president. He's just not in the position to do that.

It's a strategy thing !
moryano 3 years ago
Hey TYT, Obama has to pick the battles he can win to gain the Presidency before the election. Going straight after BUSH will harm him NOW. Why? Because the system of government that he is hoping to change is the system in place NOW !! Do not be caught up in this immunity thing as it is a minor distraction which will take his eye of the ball. I understand your criticisms about Obama's leadership and I hope when he takes office ths will be revisited. But lets get him in office first. ps..BIG FAN

In terms of bills, it'll be tough to get elected by strongarming the legislation on big issues like you are asking him to.

Center left from my perspective
flrbase1 3 years ago
Yes, but Barack has the juice now that he doesn't have to follow Reid's weak leadership. I think the Senate is going to vote again next week on their version of this. Barack could do any of the moves Cenk suggests if he really wanted to go to the mattresses on this.
GrownupPhan 3 years ago
You and Cenk are being idealistic. Our political system does not reward noble goals and the way Hillary ran to the center and won 9 of the last 13 conest proves that. To win, Barack has to move to the center because Liberalism in still a bad word. If not, McCain will win by a landslide. Like cenk says, we will vote for Dems no matter what, so why not run towards the center like Bush did in 2000 and once in power, he faithfully carried out the neocon agenda. We can do the same
flrbase1 3 years ago
Well put
vernlaw 3 years ago
flrbase1, it's not about idealism, it's about enforcing the crutches of American society: constitutional rights, and justice against those who try to take those rights away.

This is why we need independent candidates to run because the Democrats are taking votes for granted, compromising on principles yet expecting the left to vote for them because the only alternative is a Republican.
0613162k 3 years ago
I liked Ron Paul. I heard Kucinich was good as well, but I actually didn't hear any of his stances.
At any rate, it was clear neither would win. We have many more years of horrible politicians making horrible mistakes. Companies own this country; whatever they want is what they get...And they do not want what is in our best interests.
HeadoftheHydra 3 years ago

"Amy puts Obama in the hot-seat!!"

@ Swaggajee,
Ron Paul as Republican ran on the same foreign policy platform as Ralph Nader, Kucinich & Grael.
