  • Great song , hard to dance to though .

  • My fiance and I have identified with this song from the beginning. We will be having it as our first dance/song as a married couple.

  • Absolutely Genius song. About once a year, I sing it to my one and only and much loved wife of 32 years.

  • @PhilosopherEight Did you know that Video Killed the Radio Star was the first thing shown on MTV? You make a valid point my friend. Nice to read some decent, mature comments for a change. I too would love to do stuff like this !! But I am a drummer, and nobody listens to the drummer !! Head full of ideas...cant play piano or guitar ! boo hoo

  • I love the rhythm of this song, and his voice! Is just pure clean .. Clear. Woman .. Sings that word so special.

  • This humble video is very important for this channel of music, then consider it one of the most outstanding singers of the twentieth century.

We thank all those who have identified with this song.

    Sincerely,

    Arturo Depena (Adp79 Digital).

  • Does anyone know who painted/made the picture with the waterfall coming out of the torn open sky?

  • @Rebold1987 This video is done several years ago, I have a digital picture on my computer, but I do not know who really is the author.

  • I remember my dad with this song !!!

  • Pre MTV = music to listen to

Post MTV = music to look at

    Video killed the radio star.

If somebody were to make music like this again, would a large number of people BUY it? Would you? Or would you just download it for free? The only way this music will ever come back is if making it supports the artists who make it. I make music, and I want to make it with heart and intelligence like this. But it is very hard to spend the enormous amount of time it takes if that time doesn't make any $

  • @PhilosopherEight Well said, I have mixed feelings about anti-piracy laws. I love discovering and rediscovering music on youtube. There I think it works for me like advertising. I know what I want to buy after listening. But as a musician I know that sick feeling you get when someone (the ignorance is appalling, really) says, 'I loved your cd so much I made five copies for my friends.' Ouch. If you love music you will support it.

  • Gerry Rafferty is real talent, singing songs written + performed by himself not the crap pedalled out by the "music" industry today were its mostly looks, the ability to be outragious + being able to mime etc or being able to do glorified karaoke etc like in Britain/America etc got talent shows. Music has steadily got worse, you,ve really got to search hard for genuine talent now as its hardly promoted anymore. Tha lady gaga's + Biebers of this world epitomise the crap heavily promoted today.

  • Great song and video for my time capsule>>>

  • Excellent. Thank you for the video and the biography

  • What? No live performance of this tune? Sacrelious!

  • I like his solos. That's all. Evertything else tastes like an old WWII dry can meat.

  • Good song

  • The earth has lost a great artist. R.I.P. Bro.

  • wait he's dead!

  • Gerry . You touched my soul. Thank you. See you soon.

  • right down the line is my all time favorite song.. it's that kinda song that sticks with you your whole life. it's words and music are powerful. gerry rafferty you will not be forgotten..thanks for the memories, phil.....plabranche21@yahoo.com

  • great music +1 billion

  • no words can say how this song makes me feel rip

  • One of the greatest songs ever - I recall hearing it on the radio from when it was released..

BUT where is the artwork from?? I cannot see how to find any of it yet (or, did I miss something?)..

is "The Nature of Phi in Art and Science" part of the tittle of the collection?

I haven't seen where to find it yet !

    ty in advance :)

  • Love the video you put together where did you get the images of the couple dancing on the piano keys and the water they are great?

  • I had this vinyl .. I loved his music.

  • @Suzy56Q I have this vinyl and play it most days, this is one of the most perfect songs ever written. This and Led Zeppelin's Thank You are always in high rotation when my lady and I are listening to our records. That said, City to City is a great album.

  • Passion has no genre, love the music. It's truly the only friend you'll ever have til the very end. . .

  • Man you people sound like a bunch of old washed up hippies.

  • @holyfanoly And you sound like a tedious wee toerag. Away and have a bath ya bam.

  • the beginning of this song just reach's into my chest and grabs my heart and never lets's it go.

  • thank god for music!

  • This a neutral song for me I love it!

  • REST IN PEACE GERRY.......This great song takes me back to age 25 in California in 1978 when I hiked the Sierra Nevada with the Sierra Club.......

  • I always loved the way the piano sounds in this song :)<3

  • @SionaTheCat

    Me too "cuzint!" ;-)

  • I took me 25 years to realize how great this song really is ...... the background music is haunting.

  • AUN ESTABA CHIQUITA PERO LA MELODIA SIEMPRE ME GUSTO, MUY BELLA CANCION

  • Gerry- I could not have made it through high school without you. RIP.

  • Dear, Dear Gerry, thank you so much for enriching so many of our lives with your beautiful & beyond compare love song. Wish this world could've repaid you better than it has, & healed your pain. Truly do. When the man I'm waiting on to sing this to me finally does, your presence will be there, in our hearts. R.I.P. Gracias.

  • kocham Małgorzatę Foremniak!

  • r.i.p.

  • the story of phi in art nature and science!

  • You pulled me through rough times, Gerry. 'City to City' was the starting place, and it was YOU, Gerry, 'Right down the Line.' So sorry there wasn't someone who could do the same for you. Your passing broke our hearts. Your songs are among the most beautiful, sensitive and romantic compositions ever written. I copied down lyrics to Right down the Line and will give them to my wife of 38 years, along with a dozen roses, this Mother's Day. God bless. You were much too young to leave. Thank you.

  • RIP Gerry. an awsome new voice in heaven

  • This song goes out to that special person who has not crossed my path, at least not yet.

  • Proof that a great song is like a novel in a nutshell...and this great Art video is a very fine compliment to it...RIP Gerry~

  • great

  • brings tears....

  • WAS MY EX-WIFE'S AND MY FAVORITE SONG-ALWAYS PUTS A TEAR IN MY EYE-VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT JERRY'S PASSING

  • This song always reminds me of Coast to Coast with Art Bell... Ah, good times, good times.

  • what beautiful lyrics, voice. this reminds me of a place I have never gone, may never go but for a few moments, its all real to me

  • 1 person has displacement issues and enjoys running in a circle instead

  • My Favorite Rafferty song. RIP Gerry

  • thanx for putting the vid.up,another song of his ''Baker Street" is awesome.

also it was alcoholism eh,poor bastard R.I.P.Gerry

  • I was looking forward to seeing him play in person. I guess that wont happen what a loss to world of music he truly was one of the greats so many memories just from his song Star and Right down the line . RIP Jerry

  • My grandma died just two days before. She wasn't much of a musical person but I'm sure this will change now your are up there! Thanks Gerry.

  • Thank you for that, made me cry like a baby.

  • Went to Gerrys funeral today (very sad) great service. Lots of love and best wishes to his family. Goodnight dear friend, thanks for the memories and the georgous music you shared with us. God bless

  • Gerry Rafferty, thank you for lingering among us and sharing your wealth of music. You will be missed. Rest in Peace my friend.

  • the best

  • Thanks Gerry for letting your masterpiece, you will remember forever.

  • "Right Down The Line" reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in October 1978. Gerry Rafferty may not have been what one would call a household name, but he certainly had tremendous talent as a singer and a songwriter, This song in particular is one that truly comes from, and touches, the heart. I sang it at karaoke last weekend in tribute to him, and I hope I've done him justice. RIP Gerry, you are greatly missed.

  • Scotland makes people sing like this. It's agonizing I tell you. Agonizing.

  • outstanding video compilation...wish i could do that...right down the line....

    RIP big man

  • Gerry was great..so many memories of his songs and where I've been when I first heard them when I was a little kid..but the sax player is so under rated on Baker Street...the sax is the hook in the song, the catchy melody that makes the song great...Gerry's great hits like this one are awesome too..lets not forget Stuck in the Middle with You when he was in Steelers Wheel.......Joe

  • no one else could ever sing this .

  • How many timeless classics can one person write?

    What a beautiful love song.

  • @moja26 Moja, in answer to your question, apparently more than this. For example... Lindsey Buckingham. Still, Rafferty was a good writer, and I did enjoy some of his work. I did purchase City to City on on vinyl when it was released (I was in high school at the time.) I do regret that "Snake and Ladders", his follow-up, wasn't as good. After that... he more or less fell off the radar. I wish he had applied his talent more, and had given us a couple more good songs in the 90's...

  • @Berus7777 Gerry wrote 2 more great albums in the 80s, Sleepwalking, which contains the song The Right Moment, A song that Gerry regarded as the best he'd ever written, & North & South, Regarded by Rafferty aficionado's (including myself) as a Masterpiece, & to say that Snakes & Ladders "wasn't as good" is completely wrong,The 3 albums City to city, Nightowl & Snakes are all classics - in fact Gerry can only be regarded as releasing one or maybe 2 sub standard LPs in his entire career.

  • Gerry lives forever in our hearts! Thanks for the great vid.

  • it's a funny thing that we all tend to sing the praises of idividual artists when they tend to leave us.

gerry isn't any difference. the thing i thought that was his completely and that was even though we might not've heard him on the radio that much but when we did the volume went up no matter where we were and we ALL knew the words.

such fine music, such a fine guy, Rest in Peace Gerry.

i hear your music and i feel peace. that's beautiful.

  • My favorite by Gerry Rafferty.Beautiful love song, sung from his heart ♥ These lyrics are so deep, they stir the soul, heart & mind♥RIP Gerry, you gave us the best you had & you will be missed♥

Sorry - The record is going the wrong way - LPs go clockwise... Maybe CDs go the other way. Critical or cynical?

    Big Papa

  • I've always liked this song, and it took special meaning to me when my lovely daughter married her husband. I found out that this was "their song". What a wonderful tribute from my son-in-law that he'd feel this way about my daughter.

I hope he always feels this way and that she returns the favor.
