  • who loves ya baby?

  • hi i just want to let you know that the little story he says at the beginning is not from a tv show that inspired him NO it is a true story that happen to my friend and for this crime he when in jail (even if he was just the driver) and in jail he wrote that song and burton was in jail too at the time and liked my friend sandy's lyrics so he gave him the lyric and burton came out of jail a became popular and he created that song ! please shutttt just feel lucky now you know the true ! :)

  • I found this song on a mixed CD and i searched high and low ,with a few words and found this and i love ,

  • Agrees with manitobamisty!

  • ho ho home Merry Christmas lol :P

  • 2011 and this song still gets to me.

  • My fav song............god i love this man and everything i see

  • Damn this is 2006? Wow good for him. I thought it didn't look like 1973...

  • I LOVE BURTON <333333333 hes actually amazing

  • love his songs

  • what a dink.

  • His music has always been enjoyed by millions. His ever-increasing ability to bring it to us is a gift to humanity.

  • He looks remarkable ! He is a lovely man in every sense of the word !

  • @Janet1968 That's good to hear from someone who has met him. I've not had the pleasure so just going by people who worked at concerts where he was playing.

  • Congrats on being inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame !!!

  • Too bad Burton is so arrogant.

  • @siriusfriend - I've met the man and nothing could be further from the truth.

  • @siriusfriend Huh?! What are you talking about?

  • 7 people think they don't need to tell Grandma who said that boys wild and bad

  • I was the first & one of the few of my friends who bought "Wheatfield Soul" way back..This is a "different" Burton Cummings but the talent is there....

  • @Bo618 pure magic!

  • vocal solo ftw

  • Wtf still bullshitting..................

  • He is such a great canadian talent!

  • so sad :(

  • i cant wait to run away<3

  • Burton is a genius, this is a great song,.but in this live recording there is no bottom(the drums and bass)just isnt' there.Could be a crap situation,no one in his camp cares,or better yet PETERSON is not involved!!!!Cummings song with Peterson is magic, hit or not.BURTON do not record another song without GARRY PETERSON.!!!

  • Burton Cummings is the best singer/songwritter in Canada.

  • @jasmine9706 - God, you must be joking.

Never hear of Neil Young? Joni Mitchell? Gordon Lightfoot? Leonard Cohen?

Everyone in Manitoba, and especially Winnipeg, knows how big this guy's ego is. He continues to battle Winnipeg, saying it never gave him the recognition he deserved. He has a theatre named after him. Neil Young has nothing named after him. Who's bigger? Burton Cummings or Neil Young? Most people don't even know who Burton Cummings is.

  • @ApocalypsePlough....no im not joking,Yes i have heard of Neil Young,Joni Mitchell ect...To tell you the truth im not a big fan of these people but i would never put them down like you did to Burton. How dare you!!! Burton is the best and if you dont like his music well thats your loss.Who's bigger Burton Cummings or Neil Young??? I vote Burton all the way!!!Burton Commings can write a fantastic song in ten minutes...now that is talent.

  • @jasmine9706 - I'm not so much putting Burton Cummings down as telling the truth. He has battled the city of Winnipeg & its people for years & years, whining that he has never received the recognition he deserves. I live in Manitoba so I have followed the story. Neil Young spent his teenage years in Winnipeg. He got into music here. He played professionally for the first time here. His maternal & paternal roots are in Manitoba. If anyone deserves recognition it's Neil Young, not Burton Cummings.

  • ....... to each, his/her own.

You like Burton Cummings. I like Joni Mitchell and the people I mentioned.

We're never gonna convince the other who the best is. Music is a personal taste.

My main point was that Burton Cummings' ego is so big, he can't fit through a door.

  • @ApocalypsePlough Well everyone has their own taste in music, personally i think Neil Young

is more of whiner than a singer but hey thats just my opinion.I d'ont really care what some people

think, to me BURTON CUMMING is the very best in Canadian talent.

  • I don't care what any one says about Burton he is handsome even at 63

  • @manitobamisty I'm from Manitoba and know only one Misty, is it you? Are you from Wpg?

  • absolutely beautiful song. Amazing

  • SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! TIMELESS!!!! I COULD LISTEN TO THIS ALL DAY!!!! FR; NINA IN BEAUTIFUL CANADA!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE POST ALAINLYZ!!!!! :)

  • This guy has class, an almost unknown quality nowadays.

  • how can anyone compare someone else doing a better job of this song than Burton Cummings-get a life & give your head a shake !!

  • Ya.. he REALLY is what falls into the unique and hard to achieve category of "an original".Aint he ?Its like this. The moment you hear his voice.. you KNOW who it is.THATS not achieved by too many in the world of music.I ALWAYS appreciated the guts and balls in his unique voice. The Guess Who would have been pointless without this guys pipes.

  • Whenever this man opens his singing voice nothing comes out but MAGIC. Incredible talent thanks

  • They just don't make music like this any more!

  • @TheKitcat4 what? you just don't understand him if you knew him you wouldn't feel that way.

  • Burton you song touches my feelings and soul and words I cannot describe. Thank you for making me feel myself again. God Bless you.

  • I assume that you wrote this song Burton. It's been almost 40 years now & this song still holds through, to this day! Wowsers!!

  • OH!! Handsome, so handsome, can sing AND WRITE...........*sigh*

  • This is my favourite song by the Guess Who. I remember when they came to my home town and got run out. They said some not so nice things about the women in the town...but regardless I still like their music!

  • Check this song out and the way it came to be..,Truly a great Canadian..

  • Back when the performers wrote their songs ...

A piano and a thought ...twenty minutes later ...

My kids don't understand why I listen to these oldies..

I lived it when it was new and in that day I guess we listened to music cuz we wanted to hear what the Performers were thinkin and feelin ...

Songs like this bring memories back ...

  • the thought of that happening think of your loved ones

  • Burton Cummings is one of the best singers ever, the other two phenomenal singers are Elvis (Presley) not Costello and Lou Gramm

  • Burton Cummings is one of the best singers ever, the other two phenomenal singers are Elvis and Lou Gramm

  • I always wondered why a guy with Cummings talent never made it to international stardom. I must have had really bad management.

  • @66tull THE GUESS WHO was huge all over the world but I agree, as a solo artist he should have soared as well.

  • this is my favorite song from burton of all time. his voice is amazing. i started a new job 4 yrs ago and i was told burton was a regular and that he had a house in the area. i was so excited to meet him. and then finally i did, he's just your average joe. he doesn't draw any attention to himself except once. These Eyes came on the radio one day and he stood up and gave a show to the room. it was wonderful. in fact i just spoke with him yesterday. great guy!!!

  • Great voice, wonderful songwriter but I hear from someone he was an ass in person... don't know, just sayin. Great talent though! Saw him in Peterborough in 1979 I think. :)

  • @GeordieGodsoe2008 Huh? Burton Cummings wrote this song....I'm shaking my head. This is a classic.....

  • I've seen Burton in Toronto, Kingston, Belleville, Calgary and Edmonton. With and without Randy. I've lost track of how many times. I think he is easily the most gifted vocalist our country has ever produced.

    Long live Burton.........

  • I've seen Burton in Kingston, Bellville, Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton. With and without Randy. I truely believe he is one of the top vocalists of all time.

    Long live Burton........

  • wow love the explanation to the song

  • Song starts at 1:15

  • i saw randy bachman and burton cummings in victoria a couple summers ago, i was sixteen at the time, it was the best concert ive ever been to

  • It was a specially built set in a CBC studio in Toronto. Not a jail. Not a venue you can buy tickets to. PBS runs the special once a year and I'm pretty sure it's available on DVD.

  • @SomethingClevr The clip was taken from my DVD

  • @SomethingClevr hi i just want to let you know that the little story he says at the begenning is not from a tv show that inspired him NO it is a true story that happen to my friend and for this crime he whent in jail (even if he was just the driver) and in jail he whrote that song and burton was in jail too at the time and liked my friend sandy song so he gave him the lyric and burton came out of jail a became popular and he created that song ! now you know the true

  • I went to see them in Concert in 2006 - London, Ontario, Canada. But I don't think that's the same place. They were fantastic.

  • Winnipeg Rocks..

  • Well, that just gave the song a new twist! ***** Faved.

  • I''m not sure where this venue was located, but I heard this the same explanation when I saw him a few years ago and It worked!!

  • Burton Cummings sits outside of HMV's in Winnipeg and asks people if they want an autograph. If they say "Yeah sure", he tells them to go in and buy his cd then he will sign it.

  • But I also see there is a version where he sings it 1/2 step higher, so I guess its what every you feel better with Ed

  • CUMMINGS rofl!

  • the man is incredible no matter what he sings. thanks for this

  • In 1972 by mothers brother killed himself and the night before he did it he called her and asked her to listen to this song and it has forever been a very haunting song for our family.... listen to the words, his baby siter was my mom. I was 7 when it happened and it has forever been a very important song for me....many nights I'll sit and listen to it over and over again...I'm now 42

  • @stuartdhhumphries Couldn't have been in 1972. The song wasn't written until at least 1978.

  • It HURTS and it feels good and very nostalgic when I hear this song for at that time I was in the middle of all this...

  • The Guess Who have talents beyond what we see today!!! AMAZING::)))

  • Sounds Like Bill Clinton when he had Harold Ives Grand son Knocked off when he Saw Bill do a cocaine Deal in Stugart Arkansas way back when and to think that Bill and Harold were very good friends as well.

  • Great song, I love the story behind it, I had this album on 8-track back in the 70's.

  • A look and voice that is forever young.

  • I agree with many of the comments here.. this is a briliant classic song.. sung by a legend.. with an incredibly unique voice. It is anything but ordinary.. totally wonderful. And this is an awesome performance.. thanks alainlyz on posting this for everyone to enjoy :)

  • what a sweet place to see a concert! anyone know where this is?

  • 2006 First Time Around (Bachman, Cummings), live concert from a CBC broadcast

  • @killratoss

was at the CBC studio in Toronto

I know I was there and it was a super graeat show

  • that is one hell of a performance

  • Who the fuck is this No-body that you speak of ,and How dare you insult a legend singing his own briilliant classis song..Now piss off you wanker,You are banned from Youtube

  • He has held up quite well considering the copious amounts of drugs they did back in the 60's, his voice is still silky smooth...

  • Just beautiful. What a great song.

  • This is my favourite Buton song...love i!

  • I grew up wif this song and the lyrics were like they were written for that time n space for my family...luv it luv it...Memories of joy n sadness reignited inside... he rocks

  • I remember taping this entire show off MuchMusic. The Kings of Canadian rock are still alive and well. Come check out my Oh Canada music list if you are a Guess Fan...Rock on Burt!

  • lovee this .

  • Love everything this man does! He realy doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

  • I agree. When I talk to my friends about Canadian musicians, he rarely comes up - they mention the Guess who but not his incredible Solo career.

  • so true. I'm only 22 so I'm too young to have been around for his solo career but because of youtube I am able to experience his magical songs. He truly is a gem and no musician these days is even good enough to wipe his ass!

  • Oh Gosh!.... burton is still gorgeous and still can sing and i love this song i wonder if he will be touring any? i'm a great Fan fro the usa...ohio come visit us burton and sing my favorite song... stand tall1

    love and peace

    shelly

  • I remember that episode back in 78 as a kid, I would have been 9

  • Burton Cummings is a very underrated musician in the annals of music

  • VERY TRUE!!!

  • anal alright

  • fck you retard, if it wasnt for Burton, that mennonite retard bachman would still be playing at his church!!!!

  • You are the 13 year old idiot. Perhaps you should read more, study music, and grow up.

BTW, have you ever heard of BTO, Bachman-Turner Overdrive?

  • Ya dip shit I have! And I read your profile and from what I can gather your one of these guys that sits in a beanbag chair, naked, eating Cheetos and jerking off to your favorite group.. ABBA!,

And by the way, I went to school with Colin Arther, met Bachman twice and he's an arrogant religious prick. So again I say.. FUCK YOU, ya mennonite pecker head!

  • I always loved this song! I saw him perform it live around 1982-83 in Trenton Ontario Canada. and I was sitting about 10 feet away. I cried while he sang it because it reminded me of the sudden passing of my big brother...I was the baby sister. The song almost sounds like it was written about my brother. It will always be one of my favourites of all time.

  • He sings very nicely, n i love this song , its sounds really calming !

  • Hahahahahahahahaha and you're 32? Looks like 15!

  • I would say that this is one of the greatest songs ever. it's great, great song.

  • They just don't get better than Burton Cummings

  • Another awesome voice! and great, great memories!!!!!

  • I was his baby sister,

    R.I.P B.W.J. 1961-2005

  • was your dad j. peterman?

  • I like his "mature" voice. It's very rich-sounding. Burt's gotta be the finest thing from the land of round bacon and mounties.

Oh, and he's still handsome as hell.

  • WOW! WOW! WOW! His voice gives me chills! I have been a dedicated fan since Guess Who. I have never forgotten him. So glad he keeps singing!! His voice goes through to my soul!!

  • you betcha!!! always has....= )....sounded like a Canadian angel

  • @11cma01 I so agree, I love this man's voice

  • wow what a year

  • What to say..... always a singer/songerwriter that has haunted me...the songs (this one in particular) haunt the soul. You touch with your music and lyrics ...... thank you. It's important not only to enjoy the music, but that it sends a message as well.

  • I need help. There is a burton cummings song with the lyric "rocksteady" in it. What's that songs called?

  • Go here for a sample of Burton Cumming's "The Rock's Steady"

  • that's not the song

  • Comment removed

  • google it

  • I saw Burton in Soo, ONT and he was awesome. His voice is incredible.

  • Gonna see him and Randy along with Bon Jovi...Can't wait...

  • I have managed to turn this into my theme song on my bio,,,now if I can only find the Kojack episode,,,,Thank you Burton Cummings for poetic liscense, and a wonderful, sad expressive song. How life imitates art,,,,,so sad

  • saw Burton and Randy in Abbotsford last night. Wow what an awesome show, they gave their heart and soul - thank you!

  • Lucky guy you are...I hope he will be in Montreal soon...

  • I'm going to see Cummings Bachman, and Bon Jovi next weekend!! So excited.

  • Hey, good for you b52 guy,,,,, now all I gotta say is "break it to them gently"

  • All you idiots out there, yes, you! This is a song about a purely innocent man whao was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Burton did a masterful recognition of what a man in that situation mught feel. A good man. Not asshole teens.

This is a masterpiece to ALL of us who has lost a loved one by fu__ing gangbangers, the scum of earth.

A beautiful song, a beautifully composed arrangement, and sung by one of the greatest male singers of our lifetime. And I'm 61.

    So nay sayers STFU!!!!!

    JF

  • AMEN AMEN AMEN, Are you my Pop? I read your comments 3 times, AMEN

  • @B52sguy I agree with this complete statement. And yes he is up there with the same composers like John Lennon, Elton John, Elvis, just to name a few. And out of all of them he is CANADIAN!!!!!!YEAH

  • @batemanplus Elvis was a composer?

  • @B52sguy I have heard that about Burton also............but then again, they say Van Morrison is one too - and Morrison is a GREAT ARTIST TOO. When you listen to music, you ain't payin for personality........huh? And yeah, I love Cummings, always have!

  • Tuneeeee never heard this before .....rock on!

  • do you have "One and Only" vedio?

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Cummings, Bachman, Petersen, & Kale perform about 5 years ago. The Guess Who are great performers and genuinely nice guys. What a rare combo in the Rock world.

  • i grew up in the 70's, watched Kojak, but the music burton cummings sang, is and always will be awesome

  • 6-15 onwards ruins the whole classic song, why do these artest almost always ruin their songs when they do them live

  • I know it happens often during shows. On the CD or vinyl, the song finishes fading out, I guess that's why.

  • I would hardly think that is the reason

  • I don't agree that the song was ruined at the end, as I've heard lots worse by other artists. The way I look at it is that since they wrote it, they can muck it up as much as they want, and play different versions live because they probably get tired of doing it the same way year after year. If you want the pristine version, you can always buy the CD.

  • Our home town boy!

    Good on ya, love him!

  • Cummings and the Guess Who have got to be the most underrated and underappreciated acts in the history of rock.

  • You know what my friend, they out sold the Beatles who had split at the time and the Rolling Stones and anyone else in 1971 with the American Woman album which was on top of Billboard for a year. And played to sold out venues for years. Perhaps before your time. They were on top for a while. But I hear you.

  • Well lets face it,The rolling Stones are the MOST over rated band of all time,Those guys can't to save their lives

  • Sing

  • that guy went to my school!

    st. johns high school

to think.. we've ran in the same field, the same gym, walked in the same halls and ate in the same cafeteria

    ok creepy lol

  • creepy indeed hahahahaha

  • But you still have never seen or meet him,Or me for that matter

  • You should hear his new CD "Burton_Cummings-Above_The_Ground" that came out in Septembre (2008), If it's not his best, it's not far, wonderfull!!

  • I saw him in Concert ( Sydney, NS ) when I was just 17. I matured along-side his tunes during my druggy days.. He he! It's now been almost 20 yr.'s later!

    I still enjoy the Burton!

  • I've heard this scenerio, so many times... Todays Songs; don't have Story Songs!

    Burton has actual stories within!

  • man he has an awesome voice

  • great song, I love it !!!!
