I'm planning on getting a '09 Firebolt. Based on your videos I want to get the Special OPS slip on. When you installed the aftermarket exhausts, did it trigger a fault? Some websites suggest to get a "Servo Emulator" with aftermarket exhaust for Buell. Do you have any other mods on your bike (air filter, race ECU)? Love your videos, great bike.
I love your videos. Now that I have some money I'm planning on getting a '09 XB12R as my second bike. I will prob. get the Special OPS pipe, I like the sound better. If I get an aftermarket pipe, do I need to get a "Servo Emulator" to prevent the aftermarket pipe triggering a fault? Did the aftermarket pipes (Drummer or Special OPS) ever cause the engine light to come on your bike? Thanks for the videos.
Thanks for posting this video. The 'drive-by' ones are much more informative than the 'idling on the sidestand' ones. That is one gorgeous sounding pipe. I'm in Australia, waiting for mine at the moment...
Do you think this exhaust sounds quieter than the special ops because of the wind noise? Also how would you compare your drummer exhaust to the D&D pipe, I heard only the force megaphone was louder than D&D.
I think both exhausts sounded similar, but the Drummer was more "refined"... Hard to explain, but I soon sold this one too and went back to stock.
I have heard the D&D on a 12R, and in my opinion just sounded too loud - much louder than any of these two. It would probably be okay for about 15 minutes, but longer than this would be painfull!
No, you won't see any improvement with them. It's all a gimmick! The ECM will adapt to any changes in mufflers. Just ask Kevin, the manufacturer of the muffler.
hey sunfire12r i am 18 years old and i wanted to know if the buell xb12r is a good first bike to start out on....me and my dad were thinking about buying buells firebolts here in maryland were we live...i love the sound of your buell with drummer exhuast..nice buell xb12r.....msg me bak please.......wih your opion....thanks...
Robert, the bike is just amazing, but I don't think it would be the best as a first bike. The best is to start with something less powerful, and then as experience and confidence builds up, progress to something "bigger". The bike is very powerful, not so much as in "top end speed", but in huge amounts of torque for such a light bike. You gotta be able to control this amount of power, and that might take some time.
nice exhaust, the drummer has a friendlier tone than the D&D i bought. i have an x1 but i love the firebolts. if you want to own corners and have the top-end then watch out for the new buell 1125r
Wow man, that exhaust sounds fantastic! I'm getting an xb9s in the next month or so, and I plan on slapping one of these setups on there! Is it too loud for long trips? Is that what you mean by the ringing?
Yes, great sounding, but too loud even with ear plugs. You'll love that bike, but if you are a person that enjoys riding a torque wave then get the 12.
I already have an 06 1000rr and im thinking of the 08 xb12r. I want to ask you how diffrent it is. Because Im done playing with power now, I want a machine that EATS corners even better than my bike. I heard this is the one from a friend.
Yes! Power is great, but torque is much more "fun" than hp. Bike is very sensitive to suspension adjustments, so just make sure you tell the salesman to set it right for your weight.
I'm around 5'10" - the best way is to go to a dealer that has one in stock and sit on it. Go to Buell's website and check out the dimensions (250cc frame). Hope this helps.
im 6'3 and i own a 06 xb12r and i fit just fine on it which is actully good because i can put both of my feet on the ground unlike sunfire here that had to lean the bike over to put his feet down.
i have a 05 zx10r which i love but ive been looking at the xb12r as my second bike cause the yamaha i got is weak

No, you don't need to waste money on a servo emulator. I had no other mods on the bike - all standard.

No, you don't need anything else. I never had any problems, nor should you. The ECM will compensate.

should paint the front visor on your bike black...or tint it...

Out of all the Buell's on the net, this one has to be the best. I'll have to by a Drummer.

What happend to the drummer? And what are you running now?
JOECHEF1 4 years ago
Sold it. I'm back to the lawnmower sound... Miss the sound of the Drummer, but not the ringing at night.
Sunfire12R 4 years ago
Great sounding exhaust, but next time try using a wind screen on your microphone. A piece of foam will work just as well.

Agreed, I'm 5'9" and I can only get the balls of my feet down, the bike looks deceptively small because the short wheelbase.

what happend to your special ops exhaust? why did you decide to get a drummer?

Special Ops was a great muffler, just not what I was looking for.
