iPod touch Home Button Broken

for what it's worth, i tried putting a hefty drop of rubbing alcohol on the button, and pressed the button like crazy. i did it a few times, and all of a sudden it started working again.

@Yeoified It did work - I'm too busy to lie about stuff like that. But I'd have to say that everyone's home button quits working for a different reason, so there really is no sure-fire way to fix it.My preschooler uses my iPod, so I guess it was just dirty.

Same here, really this is SOOOO FUCKING ANNOYING -.- Sorry but this is really pissing me off, I have to press the home button like 12 times to get into multitasking view because it thinks I press it once... Then sometimes when I press it once it thinks I pressed it 2 times. The ipod and all the software and such is ok but the visible hardware (case, buttons ) really is BULLSHIT

With the new JailbreakMe you can jailbreak without the homebutton. Once you have cydia you can install activator to use a different button to act as your home button. Thumbsup so everyone can see.

@niceweekend14122008 No. Never put water on your device. Water doesn’t evaporate quickly like alcohol does, and it might cause some of the parts inside to rust.

@TheFieldwar55 That's what worked for me, because there was rust on the contacts inside the button. Your button might be broken from some other reason, but it doesn't hurt to try. ;)

@Dachshund66967 They wanted to charge me around $250 to fix it. Apparently they just give you a new one, but since I have the older generation, I might as well get a new one. Anyway, it started working by itself, and then it stopped working again. I got some rubbing alcohol and poured a couple drops on the button. Then I kept on pressing it (quickly) for a few minutes. After that, I haven't had problems at all.
