I've had my Rosella for about 13 years and she only now will let me pet her and cuddle with her. She would let me kiss her belly when she was on my hand, but one day she changed! She is such a sweet bird. Half the time we don't even know she is in the house, she is really quiet. I would definitely recommend a Rosella as a pet!
@hdahmer27 ive had my 9 month eastern rosella for 2 months now and she'll come onto my shoulder and let me pet and kiss her belly...the only problem im haaving is that she still wont come onto my hand when i reach in to her cage to get her...i just have to wait for her to come out on her own...any tips?
how do u hand raise these guys??? i have a eastern like this and he hates people near his cage an try's to run away if he gets a chance.... he was originally wild
@kuroneko1980 You know this is not the first I heard that they only like company from a distance or when they want to, but also don't like to be touch, I guess that in there nature not all birds are alike they're different.
@kuroneko1980 Do he bite u just to warn u not to touch him or this is what u get, also hard do they bite because i've never been bitten by bird before, I'm thinking of purchasing one at the petstore I saw, its very young but shy is that a good sign or I shouldn't but it.
@Mr291229 I bought one off my neighbour about 9 years ago, he wasn't friendly at all and no matter how much we tried he would never come too close, they bite hard, very hard and don't let go for a few seconds, sometimes there's mild bleeding.
Do they really cost $250 in USA? Is it only Eastern Rosellas, or also Rosellas?
I live in Denmark right now; just saw an ad about 3 baby Rosellas, and they were going for $31 each! I was surprised how little they were asking for them! I talked about it to someone I know, and she said in Finland Rosellas cost from $77 and up!
It's good to keep the price higher with animals like this, as then not just anybody can buy them ~ there's a big commitment & responsibility, and they also live so long!
For a bird that's not very common in the US that's not what I'd consider to be a high price, though I think it's typical for some rosellas. Many birds have actually been getting more expensive in the US, even if not rare. In the 90's I usually saw gray cockatiels for $40-50, now when I see them for sale they are usually $80 and up. Yes I agree they are a big commitment, and with how much one has to invest in properly raising an animal I think they should be expensive.
When did your bird start opning and closing it's beat like that? Birds with air sac mites tend to do that, might want to get your bird checked out at the vet.
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F1 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!
We have a Golden Mantled Rosella at home, she is the same when wolf-whistling at her. She'll some times finish the whistle that you start at her. She's a huge character, but doesn't like to be touched at all.

I doubt that it is a she. Looks more like a male with all that red on the head.

She has the white stripe on the underside of her wings. I thought only females had that.

she is a rosella parakeet.......a parakeet is a small parrot.......most people think budgies are the only parakeets but that's not true
kuroneko1980 4 years ago
Yeah, isn't it that a parakeet is a parrot with longer tail feathers? So anything from Budgies to Cockatiels and Rosellas?
