  • Hey! do you have the guitar tab? excellent job!

  • this was as beautiful as it was because u own a rickenbacker :) props bro.

  • What amp do you use? Loving this! Perfect playing and tone.

  • @DavidRayT I wish I could remember. It's been too long ago. :)

  • oh god awesome.

  • Hey can you cover Airiel - Rainflower ♥

It would sound lovely with the tune of your rickenbacker

  • @mewsic156 Actually, my wife used to be in a band called "The Sunflower Conspiracy" and they used to tour with Airiel and were really good friends with them. Now there's got to be a connection..."Rainflower" - "Sunflower". She said the lyric "Can't you listen, just be still, it's almost over", sounds like a commentary of that whole scene when they were all playing together.

Actually, there is a split cd of Airiel and Sunflower. If you look at Airiel's site, it's listed with their other cd's.

  • awesome.

  • What pedal are you using?

  • @mewsic156 I was using reverb, my Homebrew Electronics Power Screamer, and a Boss DD-3 delay pedal.

  • shoe-gaze would not exists if it were not for the delay pedal. nice vid

  • Definitely makes a huge difference in the sound! I read somewhere a long time ago that Robin Guthrie said that he never uses reverb. He said it is all from delay. Pretty cool!!!

  • Jajaja you r insane like me for Slowdive !! Saludos desde Argentina.

  • Very nice! I like!

  • can i do this with kort m600?

  • I never meant to come across in a competitive way, I really should have just said, sometimes learning without tabs is much more beneficial in the long run, no matter what level you are. So in this case, it's a matter of trying out what sounds right, etc. that's all, in my opinion, DEFINITELY makes you a better player fluency wise

  • Well, I should not have responded right when I wake up. I was half asleep and out of it. Anyway, sorry I got all defensive.

As for tabs and playing by ear...I couldn't agree more. I rarely look at tab. My brain just doesn't work that way. Tab can make the playing sound sterile and mechanical sometimes, whereas learning by ear tends to make the playing more emotional/soulful. There are those times when it's needed though.

BTW, is "ofdarknessandlight" from the Rush song?

  • Viva Shoegaze!

  • nice axe...I can't wait to graduate and pick one up for myself. For some reason, this song reminds me of "Train Spotting."

  • man such an easy guitar part...i need to do more of this w/ delay...

  • You need add some Chorus and then use distorsion fuzz

  • well done

  • thank you!!!!!

  • lov this sound...dreamy

  • You nailed the guitar part. No one here (Central FL) is into shoegaze either, glad to know you're out there...

  • great job, wish i could play like that. no other music is as soothing to the soul like shoegaze

  • Souvlaki Space Station is transcendental in every possible way.

  • In the early 90's I was too caught up with Scorpion, GnR, Firehouse, Escape Club, etc. and never knew Shoegaze existed. Now I just wondered what kind of person I would have been if I discovered it back then. That's overly dramatic but I think I would have been more tranquil and less disturbed nowadays.

  • You made my day sir. I wish there people around here with an interest in playing with a shoegaze/dreampop sounds. My peers are to infatuated with shitty hipster music.

  • I hear you. My wife and I are the only people we know personally that listen to shoegaze. People don't know what they are missing!!!!

  • Thats right! I'm the only guy here in my area I know who just love the shoegazing sound. Where did you get the guitar tabs from? Or you have the talent to hear it out? =)

  • (talent? this isn't the most painstakingly hard guitar part to learn, you know though it was a good job. Why anyone would ask for tabs for this I have no idea)

  • Oops, my last message was to sirmelancholia as well as vela75

  • This is incredible, well done sir

  • Thank you. I appreciate that. I might have to do some more slowdive songs.

  • Fantastic - it has to be a Rickenbacker to get that dreampop sound

  • Oh, if no one else has mentioned it, check out the album's Nowhere and Going Blank Again by Ride.. I reckon you'll love them

  • I've got Nowwhere. I used to have Going Blank Again. They are so awesome! :)

  • Nice dude - very very nice

  • I'm a lefty so I had to go for choice number one first - a 6 string. In an ideal world I'd have one of each 330 and the same in 360's. I think if you're planning to use it in the style of this video then go for a 12 - it'll sound amazing!

  • I'm a lefty too. I've looked for a 330 forever. I do have a Tele and a Jaguar; among others. Christian Savill is a lefty and often played a Tele and was able to get that signature "slowdive" sound.

  • I hear ya. My wife plays bass left-handed.

I did see a lefty 330 MG a couple weeks ago somewhere online. Either it was ebay or gbase. It would be excruciatingly painful to have to wait for 2 years on a new lefty Rick. I hope you find one!

  • Don't give up looking for a 330 - had mine 13 years, it's the best guitar ever! Do you play in a band?

  • Nice sound. I play very similar music with a 330, Jaguar, AC30, DD6/RV5/Verbzilla and an o/d pedal. We get shocked looks when we don't sound like The Who by people that hear us at gigs who don't know us.

  • Thank you. Actually, I am hoping to get a 330 here in a couple of days. But.... I can't decide if I should get a 330/12 or 330!!!!

  • Dude....

Amazing. I love your guitar, too.

I plan to eventually own a Rickenbacker, as well as a Jazzmaster.

  • Unfortunately, I sold it last year. I am really hoping and praying to get another one soon! Jazzmasters are awesome too.

    :)

  • Nice sound. I think this does truly do justice to the slowdive sound, at least a portion of it.

  • this is sooooooooo beautiful!

  • Thank you. I love Slowdive!!!! THE BEST DREAMPOP BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!

    :)

  • wow....what about CT! lol and what about Sun Flower Conspiracy. :)

but wow, this is absolutely stunningly gorgeous.

  • Could you tell me the chords that you play?

  • Does this demonstration come with Rachel as well? ;)

  • would you do me the favor of sending me the chords/tab of the second part of the song to me?

  • amazing

i would SO fucking be in a band with you. i do bass.

i like your rick as well =]

  • And im a drummer! Lets JAM!

  • I'm a guitarist who is so in love with shoegazing, but its so hard for me to find people who love the genre.

I would love the chance to jam with other fellow shoegazers, if i ever get the opportunity.

  • Yeah me too dude, not too many people know about it. I STRONGLY urge you to buy the cd by The Rosemarys called Providence. Its on amazon and ebay for dirt cheap like 3 bucks. Also get the album Spooky by the band Lush.

  • unfortunately we don't live in the same country :(

  • if you lived in the chicagoland area, i would! i play bass and ive been getting into shoegaze

  • i agree i'm a shoegaze guitarist. most people dont have the patience to listen. most people want to play really fast pop stuff. it sucks.

  • yesss me too man, hahaha i´m a spanish drummer who lives in france and its veeery difficult to find people interested in this genre...and i'm sad hahaha

  • @PoeticRocker same here man, just a flood of metal guitarists where I live

  • @PoeticRocker You're not alone! If only I had some actual instruments though, lol! I bet a shoegaze jam would just be amazing, for everyone involved. Guitars creating great walls of sound, pounding powerful soothing basslines, sexy percussion, and dreamy vocals. Just wow.

  • @Naroon201 i guess we could head up for a meeting if there are so many fellow shoegazers around :) Wonderful cover.

  • @PoeticRocker I feel your pain...wish there were more of us around

  • Most beautiful song ever recorded

  • I still believe Slowdive is THE best dreampop band of all time, and this is definitely one of my favorite songs that they did. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • the cool thing about Slowdive is they didn't "over do" it they kept things fluid and subtle where as bands like Chapterhouse and My Bloody Valentine , although great in their own right, just flooded everything with over the top effects. Slowdive's effects are well placed , especially on Souvlaki.

  • I know what you mean. There are layers and layers of guitars makinging the most minimal, but beautiful sounds. When it added up, it creates the most incredible - full sound. Reminds me of an orchestra in that respect. What an amazing sound they had!

  • I agree, Slowdive did have the best layered sound.

Chapterhouse went more Brit-Pop, and MBV were much more nosie-rock.

But I love the guitar!! And nice work :)
