@mewsic156 Actually, my wife used to be in a band called "The Sunflower Conspiracy" and they used to tour with Airiel and were really good friends with them. Now there's got to be a connection..."Rainflower" - "Sunflower". She said the lyric "Can't you listen, just be still, it's almost over", sounds like a commentary of that whole scene when they were all playing together.
Actually, there is a split cd of Airiel and Sunflower. If you look at Airiel's site, it's listed with their other cd's.
Definitely makes a huge difference in the sound! I read somewhere a long time ago that Robin Guthrie said that he never uses reverb. He said it is all from delay. Pretty cool!!!
I never meant to come across in a competitive way, I really should have just said, sometimes learning without tabs is much more beneficial in the long run, no matter what level you are. So in this case, it's a matter of trying out what sounds right, etc. that's all, in my opinion, DEFINITELY makes you a better player fluency wise
Well, I should not have responded right when I wake up. I was half asleep and out of it. Anyway, sorry I got all defensive.
As for tabs and playing by ear...I couldn't agree more. I rarely look at tab. My brain just doesn't work that way. Tab can make the playing sound sterile and mechanical sometimes, whereas learning by ear tends to make the playing more emotional/soulful. There are those times when it's needed though.
In the early 90's I was too caught up with Scorpion, GnR, Firehouse, Escape Club, etc. and never knew Shoegaze existed. Now I just wondered what kind of person I would have been if I discovered it back then. That's overly dramatic but I think I would have been more tranquil and less disturbed nowadays.
You made my day sir. I wish there people around here with an interest in playing with a shoegaze/dreampop sounds. My peers are to infatuated with shitty hipster music.
Thats right! I'm the only guy here in my area I know who just love the shoegazing sound. Where did you get the guitar tabs from? Or you have the talent to hear it out? =)
(talent? this isn't the most painstakingly hard guitar part to learn, you know though it was a good job. Why anyone would ask for tabs for this I have no idea)
I'm a lefty so I had to go for choice number one first - a 6 string. In an ideal world I'd have one of each 330 and the same in 360's. I think if you're planning to use it in the style of this video then go for a 12 - it'll sound amazing!
I'm a lefty too. I've looked for a 330 forever. I do have a Tele and a Jaguar; among others. Christian Savill is a lefty and often played a Tele and was able to get that signature "slowdive" sound.
I did see a lefty 330 MG a couple weeks ago somewhere online. Either it was ebay or gbase. It would be excruciatingly painful to have to wait for 2 years on a new lefty Rick. I hope you find one!
Nice sound. I play very similar music with a 330, Jaguar, AC30, DD6/RV5/Verbzilla and an o/d pedal. We get shocked looks when we don't sound like The Who by people that hear us at gigs who don't know us.
Yeah me too dude, not too many people know about it. I STRONGLY urge you to buy the cd by The Rosemarys called Providence. Its on amazon and ebay for dirt cheap like 3 bucks. Also get the album Spooky by the band Lush.
yesss me too man, hahaha i´m a spanish drummer who lives in france and its veeery difficult to find people interested in this genre...and i'm sad hahaha
@PoeticRocker You're not alone! If only I had some actual instruments though, lol! I bet a shoegaze jam would just be amazing, for everyone involved. Guitars creating great walls of sound, pounding powerful soothing basslines, sexy percussion, and dreamy vocals. Just wow.
I still believe Slowdive is THE best dreampop band of all time, and this is definitely one of my favorite songs that they did. Thanks for the comment. :)
the cool thing about Slowdive is they didn't "over do" it they kept things fluid and subtle where as bands like Chapterhouse and My Bloody Valentine , although great in their own right, just flooded everything with over the top effects. Slowdive's effects are well placed , especially on Souvlaki.
I know what you mean. There are layers and layers of guitars makinging the most minimal, but beautiful sounds. When it added up, it creates the most incredible - full sound. Reminds me of an orchestra in that respect. What an amazing sound they had!
Hey! do you have the guitar tab? excellent job!

@mewsic156 I was using reverb, my Homebrew Electronics Power Screamer, and a Boss DD-3 delay pedal.

I agree, Slowdive did have the best layered sound.
Chapterhouse went more Brit-Pop, and MBV were much more nosie-rock.
But I love the guitar!! And nice work :)
