  • Is this a joke? Completely useless...

  • is that a joke

  • WTF fast foward

  • Hi Jack

Great videos, could you upload some of them again as they are running at about 20x speed. The final chapter only lasts 10 seconds and I can't slow it down. Also some of the titles of the videos vary so that it is difficult to find which one is the next in sequence. Thanks from England!

    Richard

  • Hi there, thanks for posting the videos. They are entertaining and very helpful (: Just recently I noticed that some of the videos are playing at fast forward speed, is there any way I can make it so they play back at normal speed? thanks, sc New Zealand

  • what was that speed video?

  • Wow...what a freakin' useless video.

  • I tried to watch your videos, MAN they are the best videos I ever saw, your a true Artist and so usefull and so many views.

    I just felt like being an AH tonight also. (-;

  • @6d4vdub

    Hey...grand dude...however I don't make instructional vid's. :p

Now maybe I was a bit harsch in my comment, however the reason for my pointed tounge is that your vid here is super-speeded and lasts for exactly 10 seconds...speech is correct tempo though, but you only say half'a sentence before it ends. :?

  • Did he adjust timing AFTER adjusting the carb?

  • Before.

  • Doesn't sound like it's hittin on all 4. Is that just the exhaust tricking me ?

  • You did a great job ! Im looking forward to more of your video's. Dennis

PS: Ya might want to check out my VW. lol Dennis

    Thanks

    Mark

  • hookin' up the fuel hoses with a cigaret in his mouthe and then he says "don't smoke near the fuel can". HILARIOUS, DUDE !!!!

  • Is it better to use a timing light than to time it statically with the engine off?

  • a lite is best.

  • red neck

  • LOVE THE BACK GROUND MUSIC

  • too cool!! Makes me want to Buy a VW!!

  • SUPER videos! I've watched every one and built my engine right along with each one. Now it's in the car and running...a few more adjustments and I'm done. Thanks!!!

  • @i993Tiger

    Way-To-Go!!!

  • nice mecanic work dude

    cheerz

  • very helpful! Nice work, and thank you. Better luck next time finding a camera man. Must be tricky doing it all yourself.

  • Nothing like working on a VW engine and having a nice smoke! I like beer too...makes for a great time. Great videos..keep up the good work!

  • AWESOME how-to! I have a 1600 that I want to rebuild and had no clue on how to do it. Well, I think I have a good idea on how things go together now. I'm sure there is quite a bit more to learn. But this video sure opened my eyes to a LOT! Thanks VERY much for the time and effort! Aloha.

  • WOW!!! Thank you for taking the time to show the elements of the VW engine build. I have enjoyed very much all your 16 wonderful, cinematic-documentary videos (in one go). Your crash course on VW engine buildup had also these great "impromtu" wife, welder, friend, moments. For sure as another comment quotes, "you become a teacher. Sir, you are a teacher". Thanks a lot

  • When you were adjusting the carb. were you turning the big adjustment screw or the little one, or both. What is a good starting point for both adjustments, if you screw them both in all the way how many turns out would be close? Thanks

  • fired right up :)

  • Thank you for taking the time to show the basic VW engine build. I have watched and enjoyed all 16 of your videos. From the response that are on here, you have helped many people. At a certain point in life, you become a teacher. Sir, you are a teacher. Thank you!

  • All great mechanix smoke!!!!! And work on workbenches!

  • Thanks, I rebuilt about 4 of them 20 yrs ago. Like you I'm reliving those days with my 1974 super beetle now. I for got a lot after reviewing your video. Now if we could just get some trouble shooting video's from someone. How to stuff.

  • You should get the bug me videos. They explain engine rebuilding, tuning, and other great restoring tricks

  • Great series of videos...I really enjoyed watching all of them...

  • Thank you 6d4vdub!!!! You are a Master

  • sir you are a MASTER in your field because you make the flat engine start up from the first try after full rebuild .... i will keep your all vedios to reasseble my 1600 bug engine which i already disassembled it and it waiting for new spare parts...thank you for great veds.

  • wtf n00b!!!

u test it whit a test lamp and you begind one turns to the carb?

that lamp is for the bobiene...

  • nice video, Ive got an engine rebuild to do and was wondering, is the engine that stable on the floor or have you fastened it down? cheers dude

  • I started mine on the floor with no problem :)

  • Great video thanks. I rated.

  • Camera's shaking an awful lot in ur hand mate, might wanna get a stand for it.

    also great video

  • You could have at least have some start up problems, but I knew from the way you built this on it would start the first try. Excellent videos. I love them.

  • Very nice vids, Thanks for the upload.

    Cool!

  • quik question anyone know a good water cooled or air cooled dont matter engine 4 my baja? i would like 1776cc or higher...im asking something like an engine thats like volvo 1800

  • Dude i have been in to beetles and campers since i was 7 but no one explained the beetle engine rebuild so well as you have, i have watched all your videos on this engine and i now feel i am ready to take my beetle and rebuild a new engine my self. You are a truly great engine builder and a better teacher, hope to see many more videos on how to fix the lil other problems around the cars!!! Take care. Turbo

  • The what nut ?

  • That would be the gland nut. :o)

  • It runs butter smooth and would have started with a crank if it had a place for one.

You mentioned spinning it over until it had oil pressure. You may have mentioned it elsewhere but I missed it. What is the normal oil pressure for that engine, and since they are of an older technology should you use good 30W or a multi Viscosity?

Thanks again for taking all of us along for the ride!

  • thanks for posting up all you have so far ....

    Amazing.............

    Jack is THE MAN .....!

cheers from Lake Havasu City, Az.

watch and learn .. from this Y-Tube channel .......

  • You did a great job on the videos man. Thanks alot for making those! I haven't built one since I was 21, but man, those videos gave me the fever again.

  • loved the videos.I found them quite entertaining and helpful.

  • I am psyched to see this video - thanks for posting. I am, however slightly dismayed at watching the lit cigarette while connecting fuel lines and also not wearing gloves while working with grease...

  • They are a lovely old engine I would like to built an airplane and put one in it I am thinking maybe turbo on it would be good

    Sounds great Jack.

  • Terrific sounding engine.

    Great project.

  • Its nice that you have these rebuild video's.. The guys i bought my rebuilt engine from put crappy piston rings... So i have to drop my engine and take off the heads to change them... At least these little engines are so easy to fix :)

  • You should buy a core from a junk yard and take it apart and rebuild it as you get money for parts.

You will Probably do a better job then buying a rebuilt.

A lot of people that sell engines on line I call them Mystery Engines, you don't know what the hell is in them.

  • Nah, i don't want to go into much hasle and spend to much money for a rebuild kit. When i take my engine apart, i will check the internals. Other than this, i've driven it for about 300 miles now and its been running fine.

  • thank you for showing your work it will help me restore a old bus i have . Gary

  • How high should the RPM be at when the choke is closed and the throttle resting on it?

  • between 8-900 rpm.

  • I mean when the car is first started and the choke is CLOSED, on the highest step.

  • After 3 months... i found out it was the Throttle Valve adjustment on the carb. In which almost every tune up forum in Thesamba says not to touch..

  • GREAT!

Sometimes on something like a carb you have to say, what will happen if I do adjust this and see what happens. Just don't forget what you did so you can put it back the way it was if it don't help.

  • Thank you sir for doing this series of videos. I did my first rebuild by reading alot and watching the videos. Last week I started the motor and guess what.....GREAT SUCCESS! It runs like a champ. Lou.

  • Way to go Lou. The next one will be easy.

  • Many thanks for the videos. I learnt a lot. I am building a vw trike and your expertise was a lot of help.

Good luck with the rest of your restoration.

    Hugh

    N. Ireland

  • great series of video,s sir. Thank you.

  • i think he has cerebral palsy. he keeps shakin the camera

  • Thats a cute comment.

  • my appologies lol. just messin around

  • Maybe he just has a lotta cam.

  • What does the Pilot Jet do? How do i adjust it properly?

  • I have a new problem, and now its with the Carb. I believe it dumped a whole bunch of gas and is flooded. What is the big screw on the right side? For me, if it is screwed in too much, the carb will shut off when i put gas. If it's too loose, its dumping gas in there i believe.

  • Make sure your choke is opening.

  • Whats the recommended RPM for the engine (1600cc)?

  • Idle speed should be between 850-900 RPM

  • My car is pretty much acting like yours when you set the idle all the way down. I know that all i usually have to do is adjust the volume screw, or just the big screw on the left side of the carb. Maybe its my Idle Cut-off?

  • If you pull the wire off the idle cut 0ff valve and the engine staulls the valve is good.

  • Yeah, i actually fixed it today, the screw thats on top of the accelerator pump screw (next to the auto choke) i adjusted it loose, it was to tight i'm guessing, it works now, my problem now is my idle

  • Do you mean when you open the throttle it staulls?

    jack

  • Can you help me solve my problem? When i put in gas, the car will stall and shut off. How can I fix this?

  • J Thanks so much for the video, I shut a lot of videos mostly live perforamce stuff and it can tuff. But Thanks for this videos, I'm new to the vdub engine I have a rail and the engine keeps me working. Thanks again for staying with the build and the video work... best regard and Blessing to you

  • Could you tell me what the second screw is for? The one right under the idle adjustment screw? i bought a rebuild kit for my carb and changed it and was wondering what its for

  • The big screw is air adjustment (idle speed) and the small screw fuel adjustment mix adjust. First You must back off on the Throttle adj. screw so the throttle plate is closed. Then adjust the small screw in till the engine starts to staul then back it out till engine runs smoth. Then adjust big scerw for idle speed and repete the small screw adjustment.

  • i watched your videos from start to finish. hat's off man! thanks a lot. it helps me understand the parts and tricks about bug. ive got 1200cc bug and i learning though not too fast. best regards and more powers.

  • Excellent coverage!! Projects like these are no one man show but you have proved otherwise. And to see you were the camera man too!! Have picked up a lot of nifty tricks from your 'sermons'. Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for the kind words. I thought I would be able to more of this stuff after I retired but it's not happening to fast...not enough time in the day (-;

    jack

  • what type of muffler/headder?

  • Sorry I don't know the brand name of them as they were given to me.

  • Glad it help! Let me know how your build turns out.

    jack
