  • main problem with boxers is they don't know the right time to retire, not only boxers but fighters in general, Look at Fedor Emelianenko, he should have retired after the Bret Rogers fight and he would have a legacy of being unbeaten for over 10 years, or look at Muhammad Ali.. nothing really to say about him we all know what happend, Roy should have retired in 2003, 2004 the latest and just enjoy life but no.. he was 49-1 (dq for slapping a begging oponenet lol) at the end of 2003.. 49-1 LOL

  • damn that second hook threw him through half the ring.

  • Throbbin809 Your whack you bum. Pacqiuao can't do nothin' to Roy. Stupid pactard. They're not even in the same weight idiot. Why come on here with your negative comments if you don't like him! Smh

  • Roy is Wack . Pacquiao would destroy him!

  • Ya'll Must've Forgot

I got disqualified in March of 97

After giving a whooping to Montell Griffin Roy Jones Jr. - Ya'll Must've Forgot

    roy we never forget you

  • Spaghetti Hook!

  • did he say forrest griffin?? isn't that the ufc guy???

  • Lololol!

  • George Foreman says all...

    OOW WHAT LEFT HOOK!

  • @withTEHRAN dude he's old, he should've retired years ago but to me he will still be the greatest fighter ever :)

  • CAPTAIN HOOK

  • ohhh montell...wow....his head hit that camera...that did'nt help either...i wonder what that photo looked like when the photographer developed it...?

  • Roy in his prime was like nothing we ever seen before.....

  • Roy at his best. He was aggressive and really took the fight to Griffin. You can tell he wasn't fuckin around.

  • @Megadeth72

What Youe Mean Sadly didnt know when to quit...

Champions dont quit,, you'll never get anywhere in life if you quit!!!

  • Roy was bad as hell, but he could never KO a decent fighter. He put the scrubs to sleep with that hesitation-pause and followed with his patent left hook. You cannot keep still against ROY! The better opponents knew better and hence, were not KO'd. Im just disappointed he couldnt KO Hopkins, Toney or Tarver. Then his rank would be way up there in the ALL TIME. You gotta KO the big names you fight, especially if they are scarce in your weight class;or you cannot be considered a GOAT.

  • @LazerRight Mayweather doesn't KO guys much either, is he not considered a GOAT? Neither did Pernell Whitaker. A KO isn't everything.

  • @Antrizzle2009 No!!! He considers himself the GOAT. Pernell whitaker? No. The GOAT discussion is only for Henry Armstrong, Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Pacquiao so far. A KO is like a homerun. Who is more likely to be ranked higher all time Ichiro Suzuki or Barry Bonds?

  • @LazerRight Wow, did you really just put Pacquaio in that conversation? And considering all the roids Bonds is doing, that's a bad analogy. Boxing isn't just about KO's. Hell, you even mentioned Ali, Robinson, and Armstrong...none of which were known for KO's but rather they're great skill and technique.

  • Y'all must have forgot!

  • Jones can't be touched.

  • CLICK 2:19 NOW and focus on the black shorts left arm !

  • CLICK 2:19 NOW !

  • Disqualified me in 1997 after givin a whippin to Montell Griffin (Roy Jones, Yall Must Have Forgot)

    Lol

  • now montell griffin know's the difference beetween protending to get koed and getting koed for real

  • i hate talking about bad things but Roy have 3 losses one after one from 2007 until now. im worried but thumbs up if u think HE MAKE THIS SHIT.

  • he was so fast and smooth and aggresive, now he just stands in front of his opponent and gets hit. I hope he retires now.

    Much love Roy

  • If slappy fought rjj in 99 instead of 09 he would of gotten knocked out

  • @universe112 tbh calslappy was in his prime when he fought rjj and hopkins some fighters peaked late in their carerr like hopkins did when he hit is mid 30s. Young slappy would of got knocked out early against a young rjj. while a older slappy would of atleast put up a decent fight in a losing effort I believe.

  • Greatest fighter I have ever seen RJJR

  • if that left hook at 1:03 connected, griffin woudlve seen circling ducks even earlier. that wouldve been one hell of a punch..

  • Jones beat this nigga silly

  • at 0:21 - Only the ropes kept him up? The ropes were the only thing that kept him the area code.....

  • @darkman989 I was the 100 thumbs up ;) and damn right

  • Y'all must've forgot!!!

  • The problem with alot of folks who don't understand boxing is this: they will say things like "well jones wasn't all that great after all". But you gotta admit that Jones dominatated the 90's and early 00's. That's a long time especially in boxing. FMJ was only on top for about two years tops. DLH was sheltered by Arum. And he was exposed in the end. RJJ was all skills. Gotta respect this man for all those great memories he's given boxing. And no. Calzaghe cannot beat Jones primetime. So there.

  • Props to Griffin! after being rocked twice like that... I'd shit myself in fear.

  • Roy checked the faint and Montels body position in 1:49 so the ko was no lucky punch

  • Greatest

    Of

    All

    Time

  • I think that even though its a first round ko, this fight shows a litlle bit of Jones lacking skills..

  • It wasn't who he beat it was the way he beat them.

    1. Hopkins = nobody has ever beat Hopkins the way Roy dominated him and Roy had a fractured right hand.

    2. Toney = Nobody dominated Toney the way Roy did.

    3. Vinny Paz = He never fought anyone where he didn't land a single punch in an entire round.

    4. Clinton Woods = Never Ko'd till he met Roy.

    5. Merqui Sosa = Never Ko'd till he met Roy.

    6. Virgil Hill = Over 45 fights without being Ko'd till he met Roy

    7. McCallum = Never been shut out

  • @jeffmagic32 Also, Roy did not duck Tarver, Tarver was beaten by Eric Harding for no.1 contender spot, he was even dropped by Harding during the figth... Roy did his job and beat Harding by 4 round TKO... and Roy also won the first battle with Tarver despite dropping so many pounds, yes after he made John Ruiz looks like clown. When Jones was first properly defeated, he was like 35-36 years old. I mean who da fck would take anyone's career seriously starting from 35-45 years old ?!

  • @jeffmagic32

    2 - Toney underestimated Roy...badly trained.

3 - Flyweight Vinny ALWAYS missed punches in EVERY round of EVERY fight he was ever in. ....ALWAYS.

4 - Clinton Woods - STILL not KOed, even after fighting Roy (TKO is not KO.....big difference)

    6 - Virgil Hill - Another hand picked midget.......irrelevant.

    7 - McCallum - Pensioner...not prime. Irrelevant.

Jones was great, your examples however.....were not.

  • Montel Griffin gets deserves a lot of respect unlike a lot of fighters he never dodged such a machine like Roy Jones Jr. and he never gives up. Look how he tried to get up so desperately after that knockdown you need a lot of heart to do that.

  • doesnt he look like kanye west lol

  • You gotta respect Griffin for coming back; he had a good career and earned his paydays.

  • Roy Jones JR was pretty much undefeated in his prime, 49-1 , only loss came from a stupid DQ because of reffs fault.

Roy Jones JR was the shit..!!

  • @IeBronJames dont think the DQ was ref's fault. Its just that Griffin puts his knee unexpected and for no reason on the canvas and jones didnt stop trowing because of the adrenaline and the fact that griffin did it on purpose so he didnt see it comming

  • @Quivna yea, I would blame the circumstance, its not ref or Jones fault

  • this is the real jones, throwing punches and keep coming forward when getting hit

He's been superb for a decade and by the time hes suffered his first real lost, he's 35 or maybe 36

Tyson, Ali, Leonard, Chavez, etc.,..they're also got beaten badly at that age

  • even with 8 ounce gloves on whenever you throw an uppercut that starts at your knees & you jump into it with all your body you no you probably just got yourself a TKO or KO victory imagine if that punch landed with 4 ounce ufc gloves GRIFFIN would need surgery on his dislocated jaw (lol) I never liked ROY JONES JR though with all of his ROOSTER head movements & shit he said he learned watching ROOSTERS for many hours

  • @RUSSTRADAMUS Well 4 ounce gloves means there smaller then normal boxing gloves which means that smaller area of damage so i dout that his jaw would be dislocated.

  • that was a beast of a left uppercut

  • Hahahahahahaahahaahahahahahahahahahahahah JUST FUNNY Roy Jones = THE BEST

  • 1st round knockout wow

  • SHORYUKEN!!!!

  • jones flying uppercut was no joke

  • I've never seen Roy so mad.I remember he hated Griffin.Every punch he threw he was tryna take his head off

  • Jones was very pissed off in this fight, everything was a power shot.

  • meynard1@ Roy jones jr i do admit wud was at times a bit scared to take dives but i must admit if a james toney or a bernard hopkins didnt stand a chance but gives the likes of benn, gerald mcclelan and euank a chance, and plus its well documented most the european fighters during the 90snever got the credit meaning that jones wud not goten alot of money or fans to see this fight happening

  • lol this fool said greatest ever

  • to be fair to jones he knew wot he wanted to do get his revenge for the DQ and he put griffin down! shame that pussy calzaghe didnt fight him then!

  • The way he was falling kinda reminded me of tyson/berbick

  • Roy jones jr in his prime was the best alot of guys said he didnt fight the opponents he hsud have but i dont care he was unstoppable durin the 90s hands downs

  • @2010MujahidBoxing He didn´t fight them cause there promotores were scaryed that they would be beaten silly.

  • The KO reminds me of Tyson vs Bebrick... hit the floor 3 times from 1 punch

  • Griffin beat James Toney twice but prime Jones beat them both easily

sadly though, like many legendary fighters, he never know when to quit.

  • Wow, That has to b the best feint then left hook ive ever seen.

  • Montel griffin got his ass knock the f*** out , calazaghe where were at this time! COWARD!

  • Check out great Philadelphia boxer ( Anthony Abbruzzese )

  • da best, and by faaar, the fastest puncher I ever seen

  • omg serious shit for griffin at the end lol

  • Why does every say it was a hook? Youcan clearly see Jones leap in with a left uppercut. It snapped his head back. Not to the side stupids!

  • @MartinFoshizzle Hook or uppercut...Jones knocked his ass out...lol

  • jones.. he is a true legend

  • Hell of a punch @ 2:20...thats why Jones is the best!!!!

  • "oh what a left hook...what a left hook!!!"

  • Comment removed

  • Christ I forget how bloody fast RJJ was in his later prime. That left would have knocked out a moose. Wonder if Griffin was play acting there too like he did in their first fight :O ? Hehe :P

  • 2:23... vicious left hook few would survive at any weight class.

  • I remember this fight. Roy killed two birds with one stone in this fight: He avenged the phony "loss" to Griffin by beating his ass with one hand and he shut Larry Merchant up by stuffing his balls in his mouth...LOL

  • roy look like method man

  • griffin is a great fighter n alot of repsect for him but jones out matches him in alot of ways

  • so fast

  • why the hell cant i find their first fight on youtube?

  • this when roy was roy...

  • no one knew he got hit until he fell

  • @hornyronjeremy69 the sound is off. its kinda late

  • Roy Jones killed him like he wasnt even a pro fighter . . . WOW !!!

  • @SuperDavidsnake

Yeah and heads up, this guy that Roy Jones just demolished here beat James Toney

  • When you have somebody who is pissed off and is really trying to kill you in the ring it's gotta be scary. Roy said it himself he would have killed him on accident. If Roy would have landed that hook at 1:04, 1:22 the fight would've been over.

  • ok roy is slick quick fighter....but you gotta give credit to montell. in their first fight he did an excellent job of frustrating roy and making him miss. roy is a boxer but montell made him brawl. even in this ugly ass ko he still showed some good defense....u can tell by how wildly roy was swinging. too bad montell fell into those two hayemakers. had the fight gone pass this round i can see it being more competitive. montell was a very underrated defensive boxer....but roy is a beast.

  • And ive got alot more respect for people like Griffin and Toney than Calzaghe. These guys regardless of what you might think of Griffin, He fought the BEST in their prime and always gave a tough fight.

Unlike Calzaghe who just slaps an old man around the ring for 12 rounds.

  • @tacoandbeer real talk man

  • true

  • @tacoandbeer

Before you get too caught up criticising Calzaghe for not fighting the best available competition as a young man, don't forget that Jones was guilty of EXACTLY the same thing. When Jones was in his prime, he avoided several world class fighters. Benn, McClellan, Collins and Michalczewski never got their shot, and neither did a range of quality heavyweights that Jones passed up in order to slap around the hopeless John Ruiz.

  • @garethac81

You could write your boxing knowledge on the back of a postage stamp.

When was Roy Jones ever in the same division as Benn/McClennan/Collins?

He was a 168 fighter for about 12 months, and cleaned up the division in less than about 6.

Nigel Benn said in his autobiography that he never fancied facing Jones, as he knew he couldn't win the fight.

Gerald McClennan retired in 1994, you total douche!? Roy was still a middleweight back tthen.

  • @garethac81

Steve Collins? as in a guy who wasn't even any sort of name in boxing until at least 1998!? Roy had been a light-heavyweight for 4 years by then!

Did Collins move up to face the guy? Of course not. Like most of the Brits, he just stayed at 168, rather than move up and get whupped by Jones.

  • @garethac81

    Here's an example.

Collins vs. Calzaghe was set up in the mid 1990s. Steve Collins only took the fight, for one reason.

The winner had been guarenteed a shot at Roy Jones. Roy had agreed to it.

Collins pulled out through injury, and had to retire. Eubank came out of retirement and took it. And Jones agreed to keep the deal - he'll face the winner.

Calzaghe wins, and then just punks out from the Jones fight. Tells Jones he "wants to make some defences of his new title"

  • @garethac81

You know, Calzaghe made 21 defences of that title, with the world's PFP number 1 fighter 7 pounds above him.

Roy owned every belt in the division. To get a shot at him, all you needed to do was win a few 175 fights, and get a ranking.

Calzaghe makes the move to 175, when Jones is nearly 40!?

Anyone with a brain knows that Jones would have schooled a plain average guy like Calzaghe any time before 2004.

Why you douchbag Brits, spend your entire time hating

  • The story of Jones career, leaving aside his wins over Hopkins and Toney, was taking the easiest fights for the most money. Which is a real shame, because he was talented enough to accomplish so much more. In his prime, he was seriously being talked about as a potential all-time P4P NUMBER ONE...but his lack of ambition to seek out the best opposition cost him the chance to fulfill that potential.

  • @garethac81 Sounds like Floyd. And I'm a fan of both of them.

  • @garethac81

Guys like Calzaghe and Collins stayed at 168, fighting bums for 5 years for a pretty decent reason.

Roy Jones owned every belt at 175, and they knew full well they'd never be able to be "the man" up there.

You know, Jones fought 31 current, past, future world champions in his career,

    Calzaghe fought 6.............

Jones fought 11 divisional number 2s at 175. As in, the best available.

Calzaghe fought one divisional number 2 in his entire career........

  • @garethac81

Guys like Calzaghe, Benn, Eubank flat out refused to fight in America. They spent their enitre careers just plodding away against chumps, in their own back gardens.

Only fighter you can possibly say Jones didn't fight was Darius M. And he beat 15 fighters as good as him, very easily, in his career.

Guys like Calzaghe, Collins, Eubank, Benn, never did anything to get a Jones fight.

Like, err, fighting in his division would have been a decent start...........!

  • @MrCeej9999 100% agree with you. Calzaghe Benn and Eubank would have all been schooled by James Toney also. They didn't want none of Toney. Roy would have fought them all in the same night in his prime

  • @tacoandbeer

Give me a break! They were BOTH old. Calzaghe was in his late 30's when he (as you say) slapped around an old man. Jones was 39!!!

  • @pressrolls thats exactly what ive been trying to tell them-if you believed them, joe would be 25yrs beating guys in their 60s if your not american then you must be rubbish! why did roy or bernard not try arraange a fight b4-joe was a world champ- he went 11yrs undeated champion, and these lot are giving it "why didnt he fight them when they were younger"why should he chase them-also us judges are notorius biased (holyfield v lewis-draw?) lennox won nearly every round

  • @tacoandbeer your calzaghe comments arent correct--he made them look like bums-11yrs he held a world champ belt-never defeated-n lots of ppl on here would have you think joe was 20yrs old fighting 50yr olds,in reality joes only a year or so younger than roy and hopkins-us boxing fans wont give any foriegn fighter cedit-also bet you think floyd will beat pacman-am i right?

  • @tacoandbeer haha old man?! roy jones jr's 2 years older than calzagheits not like calzaghe was in his prime! but tbf honestly in his prime roy jones jr would of beat ANYONE! one of the most entertaining boxers ever!

  • @tacoandbeer An old man? Dont forget Calzaghe was only 2 maybe 3 years younger than Jones!

  • @flick07051986 3 years isn't much? You punk ass retard just shut the fuck up.I bet Calzaghe's sorry ass can't keep up with Jones in the mid 90's - no way he could've beaten him!

  • @flick07051986 It really doesnt matter, Tyson was very old when he was 28!

  • @tacoandbeer Alot of people also don't know that when Griffin fought Toney and won, he only had like 15 fights and beat Toney in the rematch. Also in Jones first fight with Griffin, I thought Jones was losing all the way until the disqualification, and I hate too say that. Griffin v Jones 1 is the most tested and confused I have ever seen RJJ in his prime. Griffin was VERY underated.

  • @tacoandbeer fuck calzaghe

  • @tacoandbeer it doesnt matter. pro boxing is more about contracts and pampering your career.

  • @tacoandbeer calzaghe has a boxing iq period.

  • @tacoandbeer Calzaghe was an old man when he fought Bernard and Roy Jones Jr idiot. Do you think Calzaghe was at his prime in his late 30's?

    Idiot.

  • @universe112 your the idiot a fighter like roy jones his speed is the key when he lost that he was done but for about ten yrs roy beat everyone he fought and late 30sa when hopkins was in his late 30s he was kicking ass and taking names ali ur boy calzaghe

  • @rayve330 RJJR is a legend, but when people say Calzaghe won because Jones Jr wasn't in his prime maybe right, but Calzaghe was most definitely not in his prime as well. The best boxer won that fight.

  • @universe112 If the best boxer won how did hopkins beatr calzaghe to death but when he was young roy beat hopkins

  • @universe112 i never said calzaghe was in his prime but calzaghe is a good classic boxer roy jones style is not good but when you are as fast as he was the speed along with his style made him great what i am saying is when calzaghe fought him he was a step or 3 slower then when he was at his peak and was champion

  • @rayve330 Yup. I agree with you except Hopkins didn't beat Calzaghe to death....Jones was wayyy slower fighting Calzaghe than in his prime. Calzaghe was fast too. I hear it all the time from boxing fans for example "Roy Jones Jr would have won in his prime"....Well, that may be true, but I never hear a boxer use that excuse.

Roy Jones Jr was so fast in his prime that even being 3 steps slower he's still faster than some boxers. Calzaghe was the best fighter that night and that's why he won...

  • It's a shame that Montell Griffin is mainly known for getting KO'd in one round like this. The guy should have achieved so much more in his career, Any 5-7 guy who wins the Light Heavyweight title deserves respect.

  • griffin was a decent fighter. beat james toney twice.

  • Dam that looked easy for roy jones

  • @dblstr yea and I could beat Ali's ass right now myself...goes that mean that Ali was not a great fighter?? ...RJJ one of the greatest of all time!

  • u see !! how he ownend its !! udont know how much money he get to do get knock dowN!

  • fuck all bitches, Roy Jones Jr - the greatest ever

  • @darkman989 damn right floyd aint on jones level

  • @darkman989 greatest ever? cmon man ffs-he was great in his day but best ever?? no chance

  • @darkman989

The greatest WHAT ever? Surely you're not suggesting that Roy was the greatest boxer ever. Are you? Anyone who doubts that Sugar Ray Robinson was the best boxer to ever lace up a pair of gloves needs to pull their head from their ass. You're not that guy, are you?

  • @darkman989 put him or any boxer in a cage with rampage and then dude lol dude we will see dude how great he really is dude.

  • @darkman989 id say he was the best supermiddle weight but he wasnt the best bro, look at ali, tyson, sugar ray, rocky, or frazier.

  • @tokeypon its my opinion, but i agree with u. Cuz his style, his speed - they are uniqe and perfect for me. And he is a simple man outside the ring, thats why he is my sport icon, for real.

  • Comment removed

  • one of the greatest of all time in his prime

  • calzaghe made him look average

  • calazaghe is average! Jones was amazing, and fought fighters in their prime. He wasn't some fucken boring fuck fighting out of prime fighters, looking for popularity. The people wanted to see Jones waaaay more then they wanted to see calzaghe.

  • best knockout in history of boxing. thanks Roy, i wish u happy retirement and good healthy life 4d remaining of ur days

  • This was a priceless fight, considering he got DQ'd the first time they met. When he punched griffin twice while on the ground.

  • i love how fighters look at the ref like, "come-on that shit didn't affect me".

WHAT?!! btich...you were about to do a damn backwards dive into the judges box!

    your ass got rocked!

  • homeboys F A ST

  • Damn Jones was and is still amazing. I feel bad for Carelton from Fresh Prince. He got KO'd good there. haaha. Jones is one of my all time favorites.

  • jones is one of the greatest of all times calzaghe is good but jones is great

  • cakzaghe paid jones too loose..u could already tell..how many fighter can look in and out like calzaghe did and not get hit by jones...

  • fighters that duck jones and wait until he is old to fight him..lol

  • Last uppercut was nasty

  • tyson v berbick dread lovl

  • 0:21 lol looked like some shit off the old Mike Tyson's Punchout on Nintendo lol

  • A motivated Roy Jones Jr is a WMD

  • i fucking love that

  • If u wanna see someone whoop ass

    watch roy jones

  • the guy should have had his hands up. one thing i like about roy jones is his composure. if he gets tagged, he doesn't steam in like a dog on heat

  • it was an uppercut , a quick one to

  • Agree, the stats for Roy in his first 30 fights are literally mind blowing. He lost fewer rounds in 30 fights than any other fighter in history and it wasn't even close. He lost something like 12 rounds in 30 fights he was the p4p king for a decade. His natural ability ring smarts and all around ring generalship were second to none. I have never seen Bernard Hopkins who is 43 years old get badely outboxed for 12 rounds every lose he suffered was a split decision except for Roy, that says alot

  • HJones can take a punch thats for sure.

  • morepussythenyou, I have always told folks that Roy could in fact take a good shot. But he got tagged GOOD vs. Tarver in that second fight, and I don't believe many people in history of lightheavies, if ANYONE, would've taken as solid a heavy shot handed to Jones Jr. that particular fight.

Then the Glenn Johnson KO, accumulative, was unforgettably "right after" the one suffered against Tarver, wherein folks felt beforehand that it would've been better for Roy to have waited before returning.

  • "true that calzaghe in his prime faught an old jones ... "

Only thing specifically "true" with your first statement is that's it's false. Sure, things "may have been better" for Roy in his prime, but we don't know. So of course I assume you're from the U.S., as most of us have that habit of easing in the biased excuse you use, while disregarding Joe Calzaghe, TOO, was neither in HIS prime when he fought Jones Jr. nor Hopkins for that matter, (wink). Let's be fair for both sides. Thanks.

  • roy jones will allways stay true legend.calzaghe cant touch him.

  • saying it may have been better is stupid. it would have better. and im brit. joe was way closer to his priem than jones was. and after his book statment that jones was shadow of his former slef 2years before they fought, you have to look at joe in a differnet light. roy knocked him down. in his prime he was a great finisher when he had you hurt.

  • exactly thats why i dont belleive joe should get credit for his win over jones becuase he stated jones is way past it in his book

  • Look you all Joe Calzaghe fans get a video then make comments not judging a talent boxer like Roy Jones.

This is a Big Fact Roy Jones was old he loss all his abilitys when he went back to Light Heavy Wieght. Joe is 35 years of age got Knock Down by Bernard Hopkins at age of 41-44 so you guys call him the best.

    WTF!!!

  • suuperb left hook.

  • Jones just owned him.

  • he made griffin do the town drunk dance

  • Nah..the stanky leg LOL!!

  • That would have been Calzaghe right there,if he would have fought Roy in his prime!!

  • like calzaghe was in his prime. whatever
